《Someone Like Adam》25. His House, His Room, His Bed.

It has been two weeks since that trip ended, two weeks have passed and I didn't tell anyone about our kiss. And just like every other time, Adam had created a wall around him, making him more unapproachable than he already was.
Even though we didn't talk, I highly felt his absence from the school today. Throughout the day, I felt anxious for him. He was not the one to miss out on school, especially when Mr. Walter gave us an assignment. There must be some reason for his absence and I felt this weird urge to find that reason out.
When the last class was over, I quickly left the classroom and rushed towards my car but groaned when I witnessed the public display of affection against the hood of the car.
"Take your fuck buddy somewhere else." I rolled my eyes at Noah who was busy kissing another blonde.
Noah pushed her away when he found me glaring at them. For a moment, he looked guilty but then, he concealed his expressions and replaced them with a smirk.
"Later baby." he winked at the girl and she swayed away from us.
"Seems like blondes with big assets are your type." I stated, thinking about all the blondes I have witnessed him kissing. All of them were too blessed in the racks and butts department that it sometimes made a confident girl like me self-conscious of my body.
"Well, blondes take my mind off a particular brunette who is always invading my thoughts." he smirked and I turned deepred at his words.
"You are impossible Noah." I glared at him and slid in the driver seat of my car.
"You still love me." he chuckled and I rolled my eyes.
"Not a chance in hell." I said and he pouted in response. I almost laughed at how cute he looked, with his blue eyes twinkling with mischief and his light brown messy curls covering his forehead. If I didn't know him better, I would have surely swooned over him like every other girl here did.
"Good bye." I passed him a grin and then revved the engine, driving past him.

I was in front of my house in no time. As soon as I stepped out of my car, I turned towards Adam's house. The sane part of my mind advised me not to do this but the other part, the one which was dying to make sure if he was okay, didn't let me stop.
The door was already unlocked so after waiting for five minutes after a knock, I barged inside without permission. I looked around to find Tiffany but she was nowhere to be found. With small steps, I trekked towards Adam's room and peeked through the slight gap between the door.
When I couldn't see anything, I decided to turn around but a series of coughs echoing from inside prevented me from going. With furrowed brows, I pushed the door open and walked inside his room.
My eyes widened when they landed on the lying figure of Adam, coughing and rubbing his eyes. His face was flushed red, his eyes watery. He had a blanket wrapped around himself and few tissue papers were lying on the small table on his bed side.
"What are you-" he coughed before completing the rest of the sentence. "Doing here?"
Without replying, I neared him and touched his forehead with the back of my hand. He was burning with so much heat that it caused me to jerk my hand away. "Oh my God! You are burning." I screeched and he scrunched his already red nose.
"Don't you think-" another series of coughs left his mouth. "I know that."
"Have you taken any medicine?" I asked and he bobbed his head up and down.
"Where is Tiffany? Why did she leave you alone in this condition?" I frowned, feeling anger towards her.
"She didn't know." Adam answered and then sneezed, covering his nose with another tissue paper. "Go away." he said, moving to a sitting position and then wrapping the blanket around him again.
"I am not going anywhere. Not until Tiffany is back." I said, putting my hands on my hips. For a moment, something strange flashed in his eyes but he masked it immediately with a scowl.
Calling Dad on his number, I asked him to tell me about the secret soup recipe that mom used to cook, saying that Emily needed it. He texted me the whole recipe and then asked me to take care of her. I felt bad for lying to Dad but I couldn't tell him that I was with Adam. I don't know why!

"Where do you think.." he paused to blow his nose. "you are going?"
"To make soup for you." I said and left the room, despite his efforts of stopping me. He didn't like to depend on anyone but he have to understand that he needed my help.
I stepped into their kitchen and searched around for all the ingredients. When I had assembled all the thing Dad texted me, I put the pan on the stove and added crushed ginger and cinnamon sticks in it. After one boil, I added rest of the ingredients and waited ten minutes for it to cook.
When it was done, I served the soup in a bowl and carried it towards Adam's room. He was still lying in the same position, breathing hard as I stepped towards him and sat down beside him.
"Come on. Get up." I said boldly and he narrowed his eyes at me. But because of his watery eyes and red nose, he looked funny instead of looking angry.
When I didn't move my eyes away from him, he let out a grunt and tried to get up. Leaving the soup on the table, I leaned towards him and wrapped my arms around his shoulders to help him straighten. His body stiffened when I touched him but thankfully, he didn't say anything.
He was still shivering with cold so I wrapped the blanket around him and sit down on the bed again. Using the spoon, I brought some soup towards his mouth. After looking between my hand and my face for some two minutes, he finally opened his mouth and drank the soup.
His tongue darted out to lick his lower lip and though the action was innocent, it reminded me of our kiss and my own cheeks started to burning. Even in his ill state, my horny inner voice was urging me to lock my fingers in his hair and kiss him until we both were breathless.
Shut up inner voice!
After he had finished the soup and taken the medicine once again, I helped him lie down once again. His eyes were already drooping and by the look on his face, he was on the edge of sleeping.
Turning the lights off, I picked up my bag and prepared myself to leave but his muffled voice reached my ears and stopped me from leaving.
"Stay." he said, hiding his face in the pillow and my heart skipped a beat. Did he just ask me to stay?
My smile grew wider as he scooted to the opposite side and made some space for me. Nodding shyly, I flopped down on the empty space and rested my back against the headboard of the bed.
My little finger was touching his hand and even though he was burning with fever, I didn't want to pull away. After some time, the room started to fill with his soft snores. Even my own lids started turning heavier and before I knew, my mind had succumbed to sleep.
About an hour had passed when the light shaking of the bed woke me up. Groaning, I opened my eyes and found Adam shivering intensely with cold. Even though the blanket was excessively warm, it still didn't provide him enough heat.
Moving out of bed, I looked in the cupboard for an extra blanket or any thing to keep him warm but all in vain. At last, I lay down beside him and ran soothing circles on his arm. He groaned in pain once again before shifting closer to me so that our chests were touching. His shivering decreased a little and the next thing I knew, he had engulfed me in his muscular arms with his face hidden in the crook of my neck.
My own breath hitched as his body heat enveloped me, creating a funny sensation in my stomach. I gasped when he nuzzled his nose against the sensitive skin of my neck and I felt shiver after shiver down my spine.

Their next job lands the mother-daughter team in Hellhole, a small town in the middle of nowhere. All they need to do is their job. For Mom to identify the problem, and for Ellen to... fix it. Easy. Simple. But not this time. The pair find themselves caught in the struggle between the Man-in-White and the Wicked Witch of the West. A mysterious image and the theft of a deadly flower lead the pair to a score of dead prisoners, magical drug dealers, and red-eyed assassins falling from the sky. And somehow it all seems to be related to Ellen's murky past. All Ellen wants to do is do her homework, eat ice cream, and protect her newfound friends (not necessarily in that order). She'll go all-in, guns blazing. But when the smoke clears there may be nothing left but a stranger's past and a lonely future. --- 'Kind's Kiss' is a light, modern-day fantasy, easy on the magic, heavy on the snark. Though complete it is still a work in progress. One reviewer described it as 'Buffy meets Sabrina, as done by Tarantino'. I'm still not sure if I should consider that a compliment or hire a hitman :-)
