《Someone Like Adam》24. In The Dilemma

I wanted more.

I needed more.

One small caress of his lips was not enough.

I nearly screamed in frustration when his lips claimed mine and at the same moment, Mrs. Dale's annoying voice boomed in the jungle.

"Adam! Alicia!" her voice echoed in the deafening silence.

"Fuck!" Adam pulled apart and cursed under his breath. I jumped away from him and looked around in panic. I found the walking figures of our teachers at a distance, flashing their torched around.

Adam shouted from behind me to catch their attention. We picked up our bags and ran towards them. Mrs. Dale was in the front, assessing our appearance with her big, judgemental eyes. Behind her were Mr. Potter and Miss. Celine, both had a huge frown on their faces.

"Miss. King, Mr. McArdle, I suppose you have a reasonable explanation for this." she said, glaring at my bare legs.

"We lost our map." Adam answered, stepping in front of me.

"And your pants too?" she raised her eyebrows and asked.

"I.. I fell down in the lake." I answered, pulling the hem of shirt down.

From her brooding expressions, it was clear that she wanted to investigate further but Miss. Celine intervened. She asked her to stop questioning us as we already looked quite distressed.

They turned around and we followed them back to the camping ground. Miss. Celine asked us to take some rest after which all the students were advised to gather for the bonfire.

Without even casting a glance at me, Adam hurried towards his own tent and I made my way back to mine. As I stepped inside, both of my friends looked at me with their widened eyes.

"What?" I looked between them in confusion.

"Look like you and Adam scarred some poor little monkeys for their lives." Sophia grinned and my face heated up as I remembered our kiss.

"Nothing happened." I managed to say despite the heated cheeks.

"Sure sweetheart." she winked at me and I rolled my eyes. Collapsing on my mattress, I clenched my eyes tightly to prevent the image of the kiss flashing in front of my eyes again and again.

While Emily and Sophia were busy dressing up for the bonfire, I was lost in the memory of my first kiss. It was too short to satisfy my heart but it still left me speechless. If just a peck felt this great, I wonder what it would feel like to have a full makeout session with him.

His lips were gentle yet hard, soft yet rough. And when they touched mine, I swear I felt a tornado in my stomach. At that moment, I wanted nothing more than eliminating the distance between us and kissing the hell out of him.

"You haven't changed yet?" Sophia asked when she found me sitting in one corner and lost in my thoughts.

"I don't want to go." I whispered in an exhausted voice. I wasn't ready to face Adam again.

"Oh come on. You can't just skip bonfire. It's like the best part of a trip." she whined and chucked my duffle bag towards me. "Find something sexy to wear."

Sighing, I pulled out a denim shirt and black jeans from my bag. I styled my hair in a loose bun on top of my head and then walked out of my tent.

The students were arranged in a circle, with wood burning in the middle. Standing at one corner, I observed the clear sky. It was a beautiful sight, the moon shining in its full glory in the middle with all the stars gathered around it, as if worshipping it.

I took a deep breath and among the scent of flowers and wet mud, one particular scent stood out.

"So are we going to talk about what happened in the jungle?" the owner of that amazing scent asked and I felt his warmth behind me.

I took another deep breath, feeling at loss of words. "I don't know. You tell me." I managed to say despite the lump forming in my throat.

"What happened back there, that was-"

"A Mistake?" I completed his sentence for him, still unable to look into his eyes.

"I wasn't gonna say mistake but glad to know how you regard it." he whispered, leaning his head down so that his chin was touching my head. I wanted to lean back and let his warmth protect me from the bone-chilling wind but he pulled back before I could do so.

Oh Adam!

I watched him as he sat down against a tree, few steps away from the students gathered in a circle. There was a hint of sadness in his beautiful eyes. Tearing my eyes away from him, I cast a glance at the boys and girls, engrossed in playing truth and dare. Sophia called out to me and asked me to join them. Nodding, I trudged towards her and sat down beside her.

Noah was sitting opposite me, smiling sheepishly as I looked towards him. Chloe was sitting beside him, resting his back on Drake, another one of the popular jocks of Redwood High. Justin was nowhere to be seen, neither was Emily. On asking Sophia, she informed me that Emily was busy on phone with her dad.

Noah spun the bottle again and it stopped at one guy. He chose dare and he was asked to give a flower to Mrs. Dale. Loud noises of laughter emerged from the circle when she gave him a brief lecture in her angry tone.

The bottle spinned again and it stopped towards Noah this time. "Come on. I dare you to give me a solid dare." he said proudly and rested his arms on his knees.

"Kiss the hottest girl here." a guy asked and every one started cheering.

Noah cast a glance on whole crowd, finally stopping at our direction. The only girl whom Noah would find the hottest in our direction was Sophia. I nudged Sophia as Noah crawled towards us. When he stopped in front of us, I looked aside, not wanting to watch his stupid dare.

But the next moment, I felt soft lips on my cheeks and my jaw dropped to the ground. My whole face turned bright red and I bit my lips in embarrassment. Before pulling back completely, Noah passed me his signature smile and I just gaped in return.

For a moment, pin-drop silence prevailed in the circle after which someone spun the bottle again and the sound of chuckles and laughters echoed once again.

Feeling suffocated, I excused myself and ran off to one corner but not before casting a glance at Adam who looked really pissed. Emily was sitting at a slant, looking towards the starry sky. I flopped down beside her and focused my gaze on the beautiful scene.

"It hurts Alicia." Emily spoke after a moment. "It fucking hurts."

"I know." I agreed to her even though I didn't know what she was talking about.

"We kissed again." she told me and I didn't have to ask who she was talking about. "Why does he do that? Why can't he love me?" She was on the verge of crying. I patted her waist and let her rest her head on my shoulder.

"Adam kissed me." I spoke this time.

Emily pulled apart and then looked at me with her big, blue-green eyes. "Adam? Adam McArdle kissed you?"

I nodded and then started again, "Noah pecked me on the cheeks."

"Noah? Noah Brown? Pecked you on the cheeks?" she looked baffled and I chuckled at her reaction.

"I hate boys. They are so annoying and confusing." I groaned and then leaned down so my head was resting on hers.

"Me too." she whispered.

We stayed there for two hours, ignoring the noise coming from the ground. It was almost 1 when Miss. Celine ordered everyone to go back to our respective tents and sleep now.

That night when I lay down to sleep, both Adam's and Noah's face flashed in front of my eyes and I shifted uncomfortably on the mattress. At one side, there was frustratingly cold yet mysterious, Adam McArdle while on other side, there was Noah, the self-proclaimed badboy with a charming smile.

Ughhhhh.
