I take a seat after my speech. Everybody claps, but that doesn't mean a thing. The teacher requires students to clap after everyone is done. It's just a pity clap.
Bella leans over to me when I sit back down, holding out her fist. I know it's silly, but we still fist-bump after a job well done.
"You did great, Abby."
"Don't lie."
Bella stands up and walks to the front of the room to give her speech on some historical figure. Her delivery is amazing, far better than anything I could ever do. And when she is done, everybody claps, intrigued looks on their faces. She takes her seat next to me, giving me another fist-bump.
After the class dismisses, I walk across campus to the cafeteria. I approach the door, noticing a bright orange flyer taped to the door. Bella and I both read the bolded headline before giving two different reactions.
"'The Cuddling Game'? That is the stupidest idea ever."
"Maybe I'll enter with Travis."
I turn to her, dumbfounded at her statement. She blushes and then tries to play it off.
"You know I have a crush on him. This would be the perfect opportunity to get closer to him. Literally."
"Okay. You and Travis can play your stupid little cuddling game. I'll keep my sanity and dignity in check elsewhere."
I pull open the cafeteria door, holding it open for Bella. She grabs one of the signup sheets on the handouts table. She folds it neatly before sliding it into her pocket.
