《Blackmail》Cravings

I climb into the car, easing myself down into the seat. Lilianna is standing outside the car, tearing into the envelope. She doesn't hide her smile as she slides it back into hiding. She climbs into the car, not saying a word.

"Happy?"

She just nods, starting the car and turning on the radio. She pulls out her phone, dialing a number. She puts the phone against her ear. It takes a few rings before the person answers.

"Hey. Just letting you know I'm on my way home."

She must be calling her overprotective parents. They barely let her leave the house without hourly check-ins.

"Yeah. I'll be there in fifteen minutes. See you then!"

She hangs up and backs out of the spot.

"Why didn't you tell Mama I say hi?"

Her reaction is genuine.

"I forgot! I'm such a terrible sister!"

We both start laughing.

"Want to go out for lunch?"

As if on cue, my stomach growls.

"Yeah. These twins are vacuums! They take all my food!"

"What are you in the mood for?"

"Burgers. Maybe pizza. Pickles sound good too. Maybe a vanilla milkshake? Can I throw in some green olives?"

"Wow. Those two are going to have very different likes and dislikes."

I rub my swollen stomach, a smile on my face.

"Yeah. I can't wait to hold them."

She turns into a parking lot and I look up. Monroe's diner and banquet hall has been the hangout center of the town since long before I was born. I follow Lilianna as she gets out of the car and walks into the diner. The waitress smiles politely at us, eyeing up my bump.

"I'm sorry, the dining room is packed. You'll have to take a seat in the banquet hall."

I shrug and waddle over to the old oak doors, tugging gently on them.

"Excuse me, the doors are locked."

The waitress pulls a key out of her apron, sticking it into the hole.

Great. We're going to be forgotten about in here.

"Thank you."

She nods and leaves.

Without holding open the door for a woman who is seven months pregnant with twins.

Instead, Lilianna grabs the handle and opens. It's pitch black.

Just perfect.

Lili fumbles around trying to find the light switch. Thankfully, it only takes her a second to find it. She flicks it on and...

"CONGRATULATIONS!"

I'll be revealing the genders of the twins soon! I'm still taking name suggestions!
