Twenty minutes later, there is a knock on the door. I haven’t left the bedroom, so I take this opportunity to sneak into the bathroom while Gavin is distracted. It doesn’t take me long to gather toiletries and stuff them into my suitcase. I roll the suitcase out into the living room. Gavin is in the kitchen, staring out the window above the sink. Andy has my backpack and the manila envelope in her hands. Daniel, who also tagged along for some reason, takes my suitcase.

Gavin doesn’t even put up a fight as I walk out the door.
