Sandra: I regret everything. Change my contact name back.
Amelia💗👯: what? What are you talking about?
Sandra: Ian is a tool.
Amelia💗👯: what? What did he do?
Sandra: I found out he was dating another girl at his school.
Amelia💗👯: are you serious?
(2)Amelia💗👯: I wish I wasn't so sick. I could've lurked and found out about him before you did. What a jerk.
Sandra: Btw what do you have? When we talked yesterday you sounded like death knocked at ur door.
Amelia💗👯: thanks😒I think it's just the flu or something idk now I'm trying to catch up on shows ttyl😚
I put my phone away, looking back at Cam as we sat on the middle of the hallway, our legs stretched out in front of us.
"Do you think Amelia's still upset about Emil?"
"Are you upset about Ian?" Cameron asked me.
I shook my head. "I barely knew him. Thank God I didn't get the chance too."
"True." Cameron shrugged, taking a bite out of his granola bar.
"But seriously? What do you think about the Amelia, Emil thing?"
"I don't know. What did she tell you?"
"That they broke up and that it was mutual."
"Then maybe they broke up and it was mutual, Sandy," Cameron mumbled. "Ever think it was just that?"
"But I know Amelia. It's deeper than just that and her being sick. Something is up."
"Speaking of something." Cameron pointed down the hallway where I could see my sister walking down the hall with some guy, laughing. And not in class. Oh God.
I got up quickly, blocking her way. "Where do you think you're going?"
Raina rolled her eyes, shooting her friend a look to go on without her. He did and the second he turned down the hall, I looked back at her. "So?"

"You're skipping class too." She tried to point out.
"I had no teacher and I signed in at the office."
"Okay, but what about Cam?" She gestured to our cousin, sitting on the ground, scrolling through his phone and eating his granola bar.
"He has a spare. Now explain yourself."
"I don't have to."
"Raina-"
"Just leave me alone, would you?" She spat at me and ran down the hallway.
Cameron whistled. "That was strange."
"You think?"
"I honestly think you should just leave her alone. She'll explain herself when she wants to. If she wants to skip class then let her skip class."
"But-"
"It's probably just a thing she's going through."
"A thing? But-"
"A thing." Cameron told me, cutting me off with the tone of his voice.
Footsteps sounded through the hallway again and I watched a group of boys run down the hallway, two of them throwing a football at one another. They were moved past Cameron and i like we didn't exist but I caught the eye of one of them quickly before he looked away, intercepting one of the passes the boys made.
I didn't miss the quick wink he sent my way.
That's completely random. Did he have something in his eye?
They moved down the hallway and out of our sight when I heard Cameron whistle lowly. "Wow, that eye contact between you and Kevin, huh?"
"What eye contact?" I asked, sitting down next to him with my knees up to my chest.
"Now that I think about it, you and Kevin did have a moment in ninth grade."
"That's because everyone thought we were dating that year. All we did was talk. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. And by talking I'm pretty sure we just became close friends."

Kevin was cute. It's not like I didn't notice. I remember blabbing about him to Amelia for that whole month we were talking. I could picture fourteen year old Sandra squealing that Kevin Reed could possibly like her back.
Then I pictured me when I was fourteen. Yikes.
"Why'd you guys stop talking?"
"Maybe because it was suddenly summer and he went to Florida for vacation then came back tanned and glowing? And probably realized he didn't have to waste his time on good old Sandra."
That was the summer puberty hit some of the guys in my grade especially him.
It was actually me that didn't bother taking to him again. I figured he would move onto another girl easily with his improved appearance and would forget all about me.
"Wow. You sure you still don't have a thing for him?"
It was back in grade nine.
We're now in grade twelve.
"I'm pretty sure Cam-"
My phone buzzed in my pocket and I looked down at the screen. Speak of the Devil.
It's then I remember in my very brief moments of talking to Ian he had told me he played basketball at his school. Kevin played point guard on the school basketball team here. Of course they would know each other.
Sandra: And?
Sandra: The question is why do you still have my number?
"Okay, but why do you still have his number?" Cameron asked, peering over to look at the conversation.
"I don't delete my contacts, okay?"
"But this is a different phone then the one you had in grade nine."
"Cameron?"
"Yeah?"
"Shut up."
🤔
Sandra: Doesn't matter. Go back to the Ian topic.
Sandra: I think it's the guy's fault when he realizes he STILL has a girlfriend before he goes and hits on someone else.
Sandra: No shit.
Sandra: why should I answer your questions?
Sandra: Prom? Why prom?
Prom? Where did that idea come from?
😎
Sandra: I never said I wanted a date to prom.
Prom was three months away. And the thought of going with someone was actually not on my mind. I assumed that I would spend the night with friends and that Amelia would still be with Emil.
No boyfriend. No particular date.
My phone buzzed again.
I stared at the screen for a second, realizing that I talked to someone who I haven't had a proper conversation with since we were in grade nine.
And he just indirectly asked me to go to prom.
Cameron looked down at my phone before leaning his back on the wall. "Is he serious?"
"I doubt it."
Sandra: This is a joke right?
Kevin's reply came back instantly.
Sandra: Seriously?
I looked up at Cameron who already reading the conversation on my phone. He raised an eyebrow, waiting for what I was going to say.
Sandra: ask properly then.
Sandra: no.

Reinventing the Struggle
The (sort of) original working title for this was "Reincarnated into a neo-feudal world of mecha knights, I will reinvent the panzerkampfwagen and mess up the social political order!" or something along those lines. And honestly that's a good enough synopsis given the nature of isekai titles. This story is unapologetic trash but at least it's the least cringe stuff I have written so far, so here it goes.
