《Unexpected》Dying Elephants

The bouncer at the club doesn’t even check out IDs. Yes, we are all above twenty-one, but I look like a teenager in this getup. The entire crowd is dressed alike. I get strange looks from them. They are all punk rock fans and I’m the little church girl invading their space. I don’t go to church, but as I already complained about, I look like I’m ready to go to Sunday mass rather than whatever this event is.
We stop at the bar and Daniel shouts over the noise.
“Gav!”
A man with tattoos covering every inch of his visible skin looks over, smiling. He approaches the exit for the bar, sticking out his hand.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t Danny Ezra. Glad you made it tonight.”
“Thanks for setting this up for us.”
The man shrugs, acting like whatever favor he did for Daniel is nothing.
“Are you going to keep talking to me or are you going to introduce me to these lovely ladies?”
“Ladies, this is Gavin. Gavin, this is my girlfriend, Andy, and her best friend Skye.”
Gavin sticks his hand out and we take turns shaking it.
“Nice to meet you. Which one of you will be singing tonight?”
Singing? Andy doesn’t like singing in front of people.
“That would be Skye.”
I’m going to kill her.
Gavin examines my outfit and I can see the judgmental look in his eyes, even if he’s trying to hide it.
“Okay. When we call you up, just walk up onto the stage and sing your heart out. Do you have a song picked out?”
Andy jumps in before I can say anything.
“I’ll be walking her up and telling the DJ the song. I already checked with him to make sure he has it.”

So I’m singing AND I don’t know the song I’ll be singing. Perfect! I glare at Andy while we walk to the table Daniel reserved for us near the stage. I sit down next to her, punching her arm. She rubs her arm and Daniel looks like he wants to rip my throat out.
Oh my god.
He’s in love with her.
“What was that for?”
“You’re making me sing in front of strangers while I’m dressed like this? You’re going to pay for this.”
She smiles at me as a waitress approaches.
“What can I get you to drink?”
“A beer, a margarita, and a glass of water. Thanks.”
She writes down our order, disappearing back into the crowd. Daniel gives me a weird look.
“You don’t drink?”
Why is he asking a dumb question? He knows I’m pregnant.
“Alcohol isn’t good for a developing baby.”
His eyes nearly pop out of his head.
“You’re pregnant?”
“Yeah. You already knew this. Andy told you.”
He shakes his head, looking at his girlfriend.
“Andy never told me you’re pregnant.”
What the hell does Peni know then?
The waitress comes back, rescuing me from the tension of the conversation.
“One beer, one margarita, and one water. Anything else?”
“Not right now, thank you.”
She nods and disappears. I’m lost in thought when the first person is called to the stage. ‘American Idiot’ starts playing through the speakers. The thirty something year old man does a crappy job. He messes up some of the lyrics and his voice sounds like a thousand dying elephants. Not that I’m any better.
Hey guys! No joke, I am still sick. It has only gotten worse. As previously stated, I will update as I come up with parts, but please forgive me.
Thanks for reading this story! Don't be shy! Let me know what you think of it so far!
