(A song that relates to how Marcus is feeling above)
THE NEXT DAY
As soon as the clock hit 9, I called the hospital. As soon as I found out they were open, I called Noah and talked to him.
"Hey, you get any sleep last night?" I ask.
"Course not, couldn't sleep." He responds, his voice backing up his statement.
"Same. You coming to the hospital with me to go see her?"
"Hell yeah, I was just about to call the hospital."
"I already did."
"Alright, you picking me up?"
"Yeah I'm on my way."
We hang up and I slide my shoes on. I couldn't feel any emotion other than anger and sadness.
I don't bother to change my clothes, or do my hair, or anything.
I go downstairs and out the door. I get in the car and go pick up Noah.
Once we pull up to the hospital, I get out and run to the door. I run inside and up to the desk. Just being back at the hospital and smelling the hospital smell, reminded me that this was all real. I tell the lady at the desk that I'm here to see Brianna. She tells me the room number, and warns me what to do and what not to do but I ignore it.
I go into the room. Three doctors are around her, talking.
"Hello." One of the doctors says, attempting to shake my hand.
"Explain." I say.
"When she cut her wrists, she damaged an artery. If that artery is cut, it leaks blood and can cause death in just a few minutes. This means that you must have found her literally a minute or two after the vein was cut."
I shiver at the thought that her eyes were open when I was running to room 203, that she was bleeding out while I was at the door. The idea that I was only a few seconds late.

"The human body only contains about 5 quarts of blood. When that artery is damaged, it squirts out blood like crazy. That's why when it's cut, it could cause death in a few seconds."
"I'm not here for a god damned science lesson. What the hell is going to happen to her?" I say, fighting back tears and anger at the same time.
"Do you want the truth?" The doctor asks.
"Well I didn't come here to hear a bedtime story." I snap.
"Every doctor here believes that she'll stop breathing tomorrow."
"What the hell? Can't you do something to stop it?"
"We don't like wording it like this, but you said you want the truth. A coma is defined as a long state of unconsciousness. Since she got here only yesterday, we can't call it a coma. But that's what we think it's going to turn out as. If not, then that's where the idea of her passing tomorrow."
My breathing becomes unsteady as Noah stands in front of me.
"Thanks doctor, can we have a moment alone with Brianna?" Noah asks.
"Of course." He says leaving the room.
We both walk up to Brianna. I sit on a stool that's beside the bed, and scoot up.
The heart monitor was still showing that her heartbeat was strange.
I tried to fight it but once again, failed.
I start crying.
I look across the room to Noah who is doing the same. Once he catches my stare, he looks down and wipes his face with his sleeve.
I just continue to let the silent tears fall down my face. I move the blanket, revealing her arms.
There is an IV, multiple cuts. I didn't notice there were that many. Some of them are stitched up. Her mouth has a breathing mask on it so she can breathe. I touch her hand. It's cold, almost like she's dead.

I hold her hand.
"Rose, you can't leave me. I need you." I say, my voice cracking.
"Just wake up, and I'll forgive you." I say.
"Rose, please. Do something. Let me know you hear me. Can't you hear me? Prove them wrong. You're not unconscious, you're sleeping, right?" I say, knowing that I'm lying to myself.
"I'm so sorry, Rose. I should've been able to sense your pain. I sensed the sadness in your voice that morning. I shouldn't have dropped the subject." I say.
"I talked to you that morning, Rose. Don't you remember? Now I know why you're in the drama club. You're so damn good at pretending." I say, my voice cracking.
I look at her closed eyes, and still body. I convince myself that it's no point trying to make conversation. So instead, I talk to Noah.
"I can't believe this is happening." I say.
"Me neither." He says, his voice cracking.
"I thought I was enough. I thought I was the shoulder she could lean on. I thought I was her safe haven. Her coping method."
"Bro you can't blame yourself. Like she said in the letter, you've done only good things towards her life."
"She just said that to make me feel more content with her death. She didn't put the fact that she can talk to me. She said that about you though."
"What are you talking about?" Noah asks.
"You read the god damned letter! She said she knew if she needed someone, she knew you'd be there."
"Bro, you must have selective reading. The damned letter said that if she needed someone BESIDES you, then I'd be there."
"Why the hell would she need someone besides me?" I ask, getting angry.
"Keep your damned voice down, man. One person can't do everything. You can't put all your problems on one person, no person can take that."
"Man, you're right." I sigh.
I think for a moment.
"There were so many things that neither of us known. She barely told us anything compared to what that note says."
"That's why she did what she did. Like I said, no one person can handle that much shit."
"I thought she could share it with me, and get rid of at least some of it. But she held it in! I swear I can never win with her ass!"
I look at Brianna, and grab her hand.
"Why are you so hardheaded?" I ask her, tears falling down my face.
