《His Little Psycho》20- Drama Tingz

March 29th, Friday
30 minutes. There are thirty minutes until the play begins. Since I am playing the main character, I am usually always on stage.
There are three people around me. Kayla, a makeup artist, and a hairdresser.
She's curling my hair and then ruffling it with some spray and her hands to make it look more thick.
The makeup artist is doing natural makeup to make me look more naturally beautiful because I am naturally hideous.
Kayla is pep talking me, but I am blocking all of them out. I can hear so many students in the audience and I know 90% of them hate me.
That's all I can think about.
90% of the BHS student body despises me.
"Earth to Bri! Hello?" Kayla Says, waving her hand in my face.
"Costume time!" She screeches.
She works on the set of the play. She doesn't play a character.
"Time for costume!" She cheers.
I sigh. They hand me some outfits.
First one, the winter outfit. A long coat with buttons, and black leggings. Simple. The play takes place in winter so I wear that every time I'm in a scene that's not school.
Second, the school uniform.
Oh no. I don't know if they tried to make this like this, but the skirt is short, and the shirt is short sleeved.
"Kayla, I need help."
"What is it?" She says, opening the curtain and coming in my changing area.
She freezes, I freeze. And for a second it seems like time freezes.
She may have had cuts on her arms, but not as many as me. So this is shocking to her. As it should be.
She changes her posture.
She claps her hands.
"You look so cute!"
"My scars.." I mumble.

"Hey. They're nothing to be ashamed of."
"I can't go on, Kayla."
"Yes you can. You must. I'm counting on you. Act like your scars don't even exist."
I sit there, thinking.
Eventually, a plan is made.
Kayla goes and takes some makeup from the artist, and we cover my scars with it. It doesn't completely cover my scars, but hopefully you can't see them while I'm on the stage.
Then, the play begins.
I walk out on stage. The stage is set up to look like a school. I try not to look at the audience, but I do. The first person I see is Bad Boy Marcus. We lock eyes. I quickly look away from his emotionless expression.
The boys who play the three boys who bother my character, Tessa. Shout from behind me.
"Aye Tessa! Wanna hang out?"
I glare at them and stick my middle finger up. A teen owned this drama club, it doesn't have to be kid friendly.
They walk up to me.
"Hm..are you salty because you've never had a good man? Cuz I can show you a good time." One of the boys says, throwing a wink.
"Screw off!" I yell at them.
They laugh and I walk to the other side of the stage. I walk to my locker and I am met by a girl.
"That guy from earlier, he is taken. I'm his girlfriend. Stay away."
"Well sorry to break it to you, but your boyfriends a cheater."
A fight that is in the script breaks out between me and the girl, I win, and the story continues.
At the end, I fall in love with the character named Tyler, we kiss, and run away from home. The end.
The person who played Tyler was a boy with black hair and glasses. He's a shy kid, but he doesn't fail to be good looking. He's one of the few people at Bolding who don't hate me.

I go backstage and Kayla congratulates me.
We go to the after party.
As soon as we get there, we go to the food table and Kayla forces me to get a whole meal. She goes to the bathroom and while I'm eating, someone taps on my shoulder.
I turn around.
It's Bad Boy Marcus.
"We need to talk." He says.
—————————
"I don't want to talk to you, asshole." I say.
"It's important, Brianna." He says.
"Some things aren't as important as they seem, Marcus. Before you knew my past, I was important. I was your friend. But now that you know, you've developed a strong hate towards me, and as have I. So anything you say to me, is not important. Since my feelings, obviously mean nothing to you." I snap.
He grabs my arm.
"I just, really, need to talk to you."
I jump at his hard grip on my arm.
He lets go.
"About what?" I ask coldly, crossing my arms.
A dude comes up to Marcus.
"Why the hell are you talking to this piece of shit?" He asks Marcus.
I look down, not wanting to witness whatever rude thing Marcus is going to say about me.
But instead I hear a cup drop, a drink spill, and people shouting.
I look up to see Marcus punching the guy in the face.
I back away slowly, trying to comprehend what's happening.
Kayla runs up to me.
"You don't need this drama. Wanna go?" She asks, gesturing towards the door.
The fight calms down and I lock eyes with Marcus.
"No, I need to talk to someone." I say, confidently.

"He who fights with harem tropes should see to it that he himself does not become a harem protagonist. And if you gaze for long into a narrative, the narrative gazes also into you." --- Friedrich Nietzsche (probably?) How would you react if one day you woke up inside an environment running on tropes and clichés? For allegedly average high-schooler Leonard Dunning, this question became quite relevant when one day he woke up in a pristine city on a strange island in the middle of the Atlantic, without any memories, surrounded by classmates who are barely more than characterless placeholders, and with a classic indecisive harem protagonist and his impossibly beautiful love interests for friends. That would be hard to deal with already, yet his investigation into the tropes governing the world, trying to avoid harem shenanigans, and his odd blend of outside-context knowledge, unique abilities, and a penchant for causing trouble wherever he goes ends up dragging him into the center of the action anyway. Disclaimer: This is a tongue-in-cheek, slice of life romantic comedy, with occasional sprinkles of combat and mystery to spice things up. Please do not expect a straight up deconstruction beyond some in-universe meta-commentary by the characters.
