Welcome to our brand new contest in conjunction with ! This November, your task is to write a flashfic based on the following prompt:

You've woken up in the middle of a park, not knowing how or why you're here. You discover a newspaper lying beneath you and quickly reach for it.
From the printed date, you realise it's no longer 2019. You must've travelled back in time during your sleep. Chills run down your spine as you scan the front page, with the headline:
Serial Killer Claims New Victim
Many things run through your mind. How do you get back to your time? And how do you explain the corpse lying several feet away from you?

Your entry must be written in English. and must be the primary genres of your story. Secondary genres (e.g. Action / Horror / Romance) are acceptable too.
Your entry must be an original work written for this contest. You may continue the story if you wish, but we will only review what has been submitted to us in the comment section.

The Apocalypse Show - Dungeon Core
There were lot's of ways that people had predicted that the world would end. A few even had it partially correct. But how could they have predicted it would be a combination of the system apocalypse and aliens. Specifially aliens that wanted to create the equivlant of a TV show about the system apocalypse on Earth. Arthur woke up with a headache and the option to create a character. Most people would have gone with the safe choice and selected to stay a human. Arthur suspected that wouldn't be the safe choice in his new world. Instead he decided to see what other races were available. Eventually he decided to become a dungeon core instead. Of course being a dungeon core comes with a number of challenges. Starting with the fact that he was a giant crystal instead of having a body, managing a bunch of unintelligent minons, and most importantly the reaction of his human neighbors when they discover him. If he can overcome these challenges he may be able to enjoy some of the benefits. Such as the fact that dungeon cores are immortal and he would eventually have an entire army of dungeon minions that would obey any of his commands. Perhaps even find some female companions that are looking for a safe place during the apocalypse. Warning: If this fiction was a movie I'd rate it R for occasional scenes of violence, gore, nudity, and sexual content. This isn't something you would find in the young adult section. This does not mean that this would be rated NC-17 or X, if that is what you are looking for try lewd dungeon.

Earth, the planet we live on. It is a fairly mundane place to some and they wish to escape, to trade in Earth for a wonderful land full of magic and monsters where adventure awaits for the ones thirsty enough for excitement to live in danger every second of their lives. As for others, it has the potential to become more, to become a planet that births a breed or species that will explore the stars and innovates technologies that can lead to the answers of the universe and maybe even start a race that is immortal. This immortal race will forever explore the stars and create new planet shaking inventions. Some just want to live their lives to the fullest and accept what they have already, enjoying the love of family and experience what is the “modern life”. There is one thing that everyone can agree on though, Earth is home. Our Home. We have always lived in the darkness, away from the prying eyes of more advanced or dangerous species that live in the outer reaches of the boundless void that is space. We did not know this though, as for our Mother, Earth, has protected us without our knowing until we have become intelligent enough, cultivated many advanced beings, and even have the ability and will to unite if put against the corner. Now, Earth has run out of energy and can no longer protect us, her children, and it is now our turn to protect her. To protect our Home.
