In celebration of the beginning of autumn and the month of October, Adventure is excited to bring you our Prompt Contest!
This month we give you the opportunity to write your own short story inspired by one of the spooky prompts below.
You are lost in the middle of nowhere. There is a ghost town not far, and you decide to stay there for the night. All the old buildings look empty and you figure it will be safe, but as you wander through the hills to explore a deserted mine, you begin to hear voices ...and you realize you're in danger! Write a short story about the danger you are facing and how you tackle the obstacles coming your way through the night!
After a slight mess-up with a Ouija board on Halloween, you and two friends accidentally slip through the Veil and into the afterlife. Tell the story of how you get back before midnight. As an added challenge, see if you can feature at least three superstitions surrounding death in your story.
An hour sounded like plenty of time to find their way through the corn maze before dusk. But, when a group of friends find themselves turned around in the labyrinth as dusk sets in, things start to get spooky. They realize they may not be alone, and their company is not the type you want to run into after dark.
A camping retreat to the woods with your best friends seemed like a great way to have a bit of fun and get away from college for a weekend in October. However, upon arriving at the camping site, you are overcome by the strangest sensation of déjà vu that you can't seem seem to shake. Combined with the eerie noises coming from the woods around your tent, it's clear something isn't right. Will you be able to figure out what is going on before it's too late, or will you and your friends become the forest's next victims?

A Snake's Life
The Afterlife isn't always what you think… The loving father of three children, Alfred lived a life of few regrets. He served his country far from home. He outlived his soulmate. He died alone. However, Albert's intentions about a peaceful eternity, reunited with his wife, are thrown out the window when a meddling god digs his fingers into Albert’s afterlife. The positive? He has a chance to make things right—to live the life that was so cruelly taken from him the first time. Reincarnating into a world full of magical evolutions, monstrous deer, and sassy ten-year-old elves, Albert worries he doesn't have a chance of surviving the three-hundred-years the god promised it would take to reunite him with his beloved. But if life has taught Albert anything it’s this: If something is worth having, it's worth fighting for. And he intends to fight.

Arduous New World
Alright, so I'm using this as a whetstone to practice my fiction writing. I have dyslexia, so bear with me if I have any mistakes, if you point them out I'll try and correct them. The story is LitRPG, I'll try and avoid some of the tropes, see FAQ. What happens is that the world turns out to be a simulation coming to an end, and beginning on its new simulation, in this process the system of the universe declares that the new simulation will be rpg-based. The protagonist however is thrust into an empty space before the simulation comes to an end, he escapes and finds that the world as he knew it is gone.Chapters will come sporadically as I'm quite busy IRL. FAQ1: There will be no Harem. 2: If any sexual content, it will be be below the screen, example sentence [they made love - or - they had sex]3: I'll try to keep character motivations steady instead of having characters who says and does one thing in one chapter, only to change their mind in the next one. 3: Villains or "bad guys" won't be charicatures. Of course, as in real life, you can meet these people, but as far as big bads or antagonists goes, they will have some modicum of intelligence. 4: The MC does not have an encyclopedia of random knowledge. 5: OP'ness won't happen overnight, and it is something that I'm wary of in terms of adding it, of course eventually the MC will grow more powerful, but there won't be any cheats, except hard work; and the luck factor will be more or less similar to the rest of the population. 6: He won't be opposing the universe, no matter how powerful he grows, he is too insignificant7: he won't become friends with god/the ghost in the shell etc, no matter how powerful he grows, he is too insignificant, and an ancient simulation ai has no interest anyway, why would it ? Okay that's that for now.

For King and Kin: A Fox's Journey
Two fox-kin siblings set out to serve a human king, hoping to secure ties with the royals that had formed in times of war. Yet, much is demanded of them as their father's reputation precedes them. They find the King struggling to keep his vassals from breaking the terms of the armistice. With reports of smuggling increasing and the nation's strategic resources at stake, their father is sent to oversee the border. The king, fearing for his own children, hopes for six more months. Meanwhile, tavern brawls turn bloody as a cry spreads across the land, "Loyalty? Or bread!". What to expect: - cold steel weapons with magic- colonial-esque era- elements of strategy (including logistics)- powerful mages that can't block a crossbow bolt. Except for some earth mages.- realistic depictions of violence. I don't care to focus on it. - other races introduced eventually, if they fit. - Australian english, except when I slip. Not much slang though, I reckon.
