《Delightful》One plain simple water

"You have got to be kidding me!" I say in my phone at my friend, who for the hundredth time has asked me for a coffee.
"Mila, you need to get out of your house for once and get things yourself," I groan as I start making my way to the nearest cafe.
"Pleaseeee? You always take care of me like your little sister, and you love me,"
"Mila. We are the same damn age," she snickers in the phone and I just end it. I am so tired after work and she just called me to get her a coffee. She is my roommate but uses it to her best advantage. She's lucky I love her.
The bell above the cafe dings indicating my arrival. There are two people in front of me so I get in line and start scrolling through my phone.
"Yes?" I hear a voice.
"One iced latte and-" I stop my order as soon as my eyes land on the guy behind the cashier.
His eyes snap up when I stop talking. My throat goes dry at his intense blue eyes.
"And what?" He says.
"And a plain simple water," who the hell orders water? And that too plain? How does that even work?
I can see the amusement in his eyes.
"One iced latte and one plain simple water," his smirk is clearly present on his face.
"By plain I mean with ice," I jut my chin out to cover this fact.
"You know sometimes you put like, no ice? Or even lemon? That is disgusting even thinking about it..." I trail off realising that I have started my blabbering.
"Sorry, yeah just-my order," and I walk away covering my face with my hair. I hear his distant chuckle as I go to sit on a table.

After a few minutes of me staring out, I hear a throat get cleared. Looking up, I see the guy standing in front of me with my drinks.
"Thank you," I breath out as I stand up. He extends it forward and our hands brush when I take it from him. A shiver runs down my spine. I give him the exact change and he takes it.
Looking at his name tag, it reads River.
"River," I say out loud before I even think. My eyes widen when he turns back around at his name being called.
"Yes?" He says it like he is expecting something from me.
"Nothing, just thank you," he nods but holds eye contact for a second longer before turning back around to head to the cashier.
I walk out of the coffee shop.
What has just happened?
*The next day*
"Fine."
"What? You are not going to say why you are making me go or your daily speech about me being lazy?" I roll my eyes as I hear her.
"No, now if you want your coffee, then just accept that I am going,"
"Ok, ok, ok, fine!"
We talk until I reach the cafe when I tell her I have to go. Slowly, pushing the door, I walk in.
This time, I am more ready than before.
As soon as it's my turn, I say my order.
"One iced latte with plain simple water," it's the same order as yesterday. One, because Mila drinks this in the afternoons, and two, because why not get water?
His head snaps up as soon as he hears my voice. It's like I can imagine the faint smile on his face but it isn't there. Just it being faint is enough for me to notice.

"Plain water?" He questions again and I nod with a smile.
"Just plain water,"
"Because sometimes we don't put in ice, and put lemon in it," nodding his head at me, he turns around to make it.
I laugh lightly when he said that because it sounded dumb. Imagine me saying that to him yesterday. Cringe.
I watch him prepare the drinks swiftly and quickly. The way he moves so smoothly across the stations, turns the nobs of things on the machines, mixes the glasses, pours the coffee. All simple tasks but he makes them look so attractive and so interesting that I want to stare all day.
As soon as he is done, he turns around and hands me the cups.
"Thank you," I say to him but looking at his face, he has the same expression as yesterday, does he want to ask something? Because he can if he wants to.
"Yes?" I ask him in hopes to him maybe getting it out.
He looks at me but shakes his head dismissing it.
"Goodbye River," I say and then turn around and walk out.
*Next day*
"You are really surprising me with you now not having a fit about buying coffee," I can just imagine her narrowing her eyes.
"Ugh not again. You know what? I'm not bringing you coffee today, get out of that little place. I get it designing clothes is hard and takes time but get out and explore, it will help you get motivated and give inspiration even," there is no response from her.
"Fine. Don't get out just coz of that dickhead but trust me, when I see him, he will go home with a black eye," I hear a chuckle and know I made her laugh. She's afraid she might see her ex boyfriend that she broke up with not long ago.
"Just get the coffee Delilah,"
"Sure," I put my phone away as soon as I reach the cafe.
Today, there isn't anyone here so I quickly walk forward ready to give my order.
"One iced latte and plain simple water," he slowly lifts his head and today for the first time, his eyes are a brighter blue and I can see how clear they are.
"Right away," he gives me a smile and turns around. It made my stomach flutter because it's the first time he smiled at me.
When he returns with the drinks, I pay and start to walk out but am stopped by him calling me.
"Yes?" I say turning to face him.
He has a mischievous smile on his face.
"Please don't forget to read the instructions on the side of the paper cup," I frown because there has never been a moment where I thought I would have to read the damn instructions on my paper cup.
"Ok?" I say unsurely.
"Have a nice day," he winks at me just as I turned around, covering my flaming cheeks.
Once outside, I pick my cup near my face to read what is so interesting about these instructions when my eyes land on something.
It has his number on it.
A full blown smile blossoms on my face, I turn around to look at him through the windows of the cafe to see him looking at me.
I raise the cup to show him I acknowledged it and he nods with a soft smile.
