《The Healer Demands Payment!》Chapter 45 - Another Case

On Beyond The Heaven’s highest floating island, white clouds were pouring down like a waterfall to the lake below. A man in a white robe stood still. His sleeves were blown by the wind, and his hair was tied at the top of his head by a small black sandalwood headdress.
When Su Junmo arrived in a hurry, the white-robed man had already waited here for an incense stick of time.
“Lord.” Su Junmo took a deep breath, then bowing respectfully.
“How?” The white-robed man did not turn his head. His star-like pitch-black eyes were still staring at the cloud waterfall.
“Xingluo Pavilion Master promised to enter the Starfallen Sea for ten years.” Su Junmo reported all the news he had heard in the past half-day.
“Oh?” The white-robed man’s expression remained unchanged, “Xingluo Pavilion?”
The number one sword sect in the Eastern Realm. He naturally had heard this name before.
“Yes.” Su Junmo replied.” Xingluo Pavilion made that promise in exchange to host the Medical Cultivator Conference in their Xingluo City this year.”
“Continue.” The white-robed man still did not turn around.
Su Junmo hesitated for a moment: “This subordinate also met Meng Qi from Qingfeng Valley.”
Su Junmo came to the Eastern Realm under his Lord’s order to solve Sikong Yan and found Meng Qi by the way. Su Junmo was a little nervous, so he didn’t notice that his Lord’s hands hanging on the side stiffened when hearing Su Junmo’s mentioning Meng Qi’s name.
After a pause, he continued: “She seems to have knowledge about arrays. This subordinate saw the medical knife she personally made. The array carved on the knife was very similar to….” Su Junmo fell silent, dared not to say the next words. That array was very rare, even in the Demon Realm. He only saw it carved under the Demon Realm’s Celestial Tree. Another one, was carved precisely on his Lord’s weapon——Xizhao.
“I know.” The man replied.
“This subordinate has followed Meng Qi to Fentian City. She should also be going to Xingluo City to participate in the Medical Cultivator Conference.” Su Junmo continued: “She is very obsessed with medical arts. She certainly would not miss this event,”
Su Junmo hesitated for a while. He looked at his Lord’s straight back, gritted his teeth, and finally said: “There is a little white tiger by Meng Qi’s side. I heard it was an injured spirit beast she picked up and wanted to raise as a spirit pet. Meng Qi loves that little white tiger and treats him very well, but…”
“Ah, cough, cough…I see, don’t worry about this.” The white-robed man quickly interrupted Su Junmo’s words. He flicked his sleeves: “Has Xue clan members arrived in Fentian City?”
“Yes.” Su Junmo replied respectfully. “Xue Chengxuan came in person. His father should also depart to Xingluo City at the beginning of the month.”
“Let them bring the ‘Xue Clan’s Record’ with them.” The man ordered. “Go to Fentian City’s Beyond The Heaven. I will give you command to mobilize the third secret team. If necessary, use them to assist you.”
“…Yes.” Su Jun Mo didn’t dare to say more. He bowed and took his leave. Although many questions haunted his minds, he didn’t dare to ask. The Lord clearly ordered him to find Meng Qi, but now didn’t seem to care about her.
So…
Su Junmo was full of doubts. Especially when he mentioned the little white tiger. Although he didn’t see the Lord’s expression, he clearly felt the embarrassment from the other party, not to mention the quick change of topic.

Don’t tell him?!
Su Junmo suddenly widened his eyes. He quickly lowered his gaze to hide his surprise. Perhaps he didn’t see it wrong that day, and the little white tiger’s eyes really contained the Big Dipper star shadow. If it was true, then what was Meng Qi’s relationship with that little tiger?!
She found it? How could there be such a coincidence in this world?!
The more Su Junmo thought about it, the more he felt that his guess was right. There was also the matter of ‘Xue Clan’s Record.’ Although the title was so bland, it was a record that has been passed down in Xue Clan’s for generations from patriarch to patriarch. It was a classic that recorded all the medical techniques of Xue Clan for thousands of years. Why did the Lord want them to take it to Xingluo City?
Su Junmo felt that the answer was obvious.
He didn’t dare to think more and could only hasten his pace towards the teleportation array.
Has Meng Qiqi sobered up yet?
Su Junmo was about to check her condition when he suddenly received an urgent summon from the Lord.
….
Su Junmo stepped into the teleportation array. A flash of light later, and he arrived at Profound floating island. He quickly walked towards Xue Jinwen’s residence. Su Junmo found the red-dressed woman not in her room, but sitting under the bamboo grove in the corner of the small courtyard. There was a zither in front of her. Xue Jinwen fiddled over it with her delicate hands, plucking the strings absent-mindedly.
Hearing the footsteps, Xue Jinwen raised her eyes and looked at the gate. A surprise flashed through her eyes.
“Fellow Daoist Su.” Xue Jinwen stood up. Her eyes were filled with joy. The corner of her lips raised slightly, and she smiled as charming as ever.
“Xue Jinwen.” Su Junmo skipped the pleasantry and directly took out a bundle from his storage space, handing it to Xue Jinwen: “Mark your spiritual consciousness, and remember to get it at the relay station after you back.”
“Many thanks.” Xue Jinwen cupped her hands in courtesy. She then put on her spiritual mark on the bundle, which contained the items she previously asked Su Junmo to find for her. Although there were only two of them, Su Junmo’s willingness to take her words seriously still made her very happy.
“Right.” Su Junmo took back the bundle. “Next month’s Medical Cultivator Conference, are you going to attend?”
Xue Jinwen’s eyes dimmed, and she shook her head: “Eldest Brother has left for Fentian City. Father and other elders will depart later and meet him at Xingluo City.” Xue Jinwen paused, then she smiled: “But my eldest sister and younger sister will go.”
“Hah…” Su Junmo shook his head.
Xue Jinwen didn’t understand why he sighed. After considering for a while, she asked: “Fellow Daoist Su, is something happened?”
“I met your eldest brother in Fentian City.” Su Junmo didn’t hide this. “He is with Murong and Wen’s two young masters.”
“Yes.” Xue Jinwen nodded, “Huajing Manor, which is located in the border between Eastern and Western Realm, suddenly had many cultivators who were injured by vines. Because the symptoms of the injuries are too strange, they asked for Feng Alliance’s help. Father ordered eldest brother to check it out.”
When Su Junmo traveled in the Western Realm, he stayed as the guest of Feng Alliance. During his stay, he has seen many troubles occurred in the Western Realm, so Xue Jinwen had no need to hide the matter of this time from him. Furthermore, as a celestial demon, Su Junmo was very knowledgeable, and he had helped Feng Alliance a lot, including the Xue clan. Although Xue Jinwen didn’t know how the situation was at her brother’s side, maybe Su Junmo could help.

“Huh?” Su Junmo was startled. “Hurt by vines?”
“Yes.” Xue Jinwen nodded.
“Your brother didn’t mention this.” Su Junmo frowned slightly, “I must go.” He turned and walked out of the courtyard.
Xue Jinwen looked at his drifting back. Her gaze gradually became firm. She turned around, put away the zither, then closed the gate and walked towards the teleportation array.
…
When Meng Qi woke up, her head still ached. She opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling. For a long time, she couldn’t figure out where she was at. The furnishing inside the room gradually became clear, and the events that transpired before she fell asleep also came back in fragments.
Fentian City, Ruyi Inn, Xue Chengxuan…and that cup of mellow and delicious wine!
Meng Qi sat up with annoyance and smacked her head. What a blunder. Did she really get knocked out by just one cup of wine? She wasn’t a good drinker, but she was still a Foundation Establishment cultivator.
Meng Qi squinted her eyes slightly. The wine seemed to contain worry-free flower, hibiscus teeth, snow fox orchid… and a few more. When Meng Qi drank it, she didn’t pay much attention. Looking back now, that one cup of wine should contain at least ten or more kinds of spirit flowers and herb. No wonder the effect was so amazing.
Meng Qi wondered if she had done something strange when she was drunk. She shook her head. Meng Qi remembered what Xue Chengxuan said about the Medical Cultivator Conference, but afterward, her memory was foggy. A few images flashed in her head occasionally. She seemed to have gone to Beyond The Heaven?
Meng Qi lowered her head blankly and stared at Beyond The Heaven jade slip she tightly held in her palm.
Did she go to see sister Xue Jinwen?
Afterward?
She blinked. What else happened?
“Meng Qi.” When Meng Qi was in a daze, three knocks came from the door, and Qin Xiumo’s voice came from outside: “Are you awake?”
“Yeah.” Meng Qi replied back and found that her voice was a little hoarse. Moreover, she felt that her eyes were a bit tingled.
“Can I enter?” Qin Xiumo asked again.
“Wait a minute.” Meng Qi took a deep breath and jumped out of bed. Inside the room, there was a vanity table with a mirror. Meng Qi quickly walked over there and examined her face in the mirror. Her hair was a little messy, but it was still okay. Her eyes….why were they swollen?
Meng Qi leaned closer. Her eyes were clearly red and swollen. Did she… cry?
No wonder she felt tingling in her eyes. Not only was she drunk, but she also cried?! Meng Qi was a little embarrassed. Why did she cry when she was drunk? She couldn’t even remember the last time she cried!
Suddenly, a rustle came from behind. Meng Qi quickly turned her head and met the little white tiger’s blue eyes.
“Uh…Xiao Qi, morning.” Although she knew that the little white tiger didn’t see her drunken antics, she still greeted the little guy with some embarrassment.
The little white tiger laying down lazily, his head tilted aside.
“Meng Qi?” Qin Xiumo’s voice came again, “Are you okay?”
“A moment.” Meng Qi activated a spell to quickly cleaned her body, then tidied up her appearance. She took out a small bottle from the storage space, poured out a little powder, and gently rubbed it on her slightly swollen eye. A cool sensation instantly replaced the slight tingling. When Meng Qi looked in the mirror again, her eyes had returned to normal.
“Come in.” Meng Qi put back the porcelain bottle and turned to open the door for Qin Xiumo.
The black-clothed young man stood by the door. As soon as the door opened, his eyes fell on Meng Qi’s face. “Have you sobered up?” He asked.
Meng Qi: “…” So he saw it!
The corners of Qin Xiumo’s lips raised instantly. He looked at the small, slightly embarrassed girl before him: “Aren’t you going to find jade cicada vine?”
“Ye..yes.” Meng Qi remembered. Right, she did go to Beyond The Heaven, looking for a cold jade box to store the jade cicada vine.
“Wait a minute.” Meng Qi quickly said: “I have to fetch some things.”
Meng Qi closed the door and entered Beyond The Heaven with the jade slip in her hand. Xue Jinwen’s courtyard gate was closed, and Meng Qi was about to contact Xue Jinwen via the nameplate when she saw Xiang Linmo walked towards her: “Fellow Daoist, are you here to find third Miss Xue?”
“Fellow Daoist Xiang.” Meng Qi nodded in greetings.
“She said she has an urgent business and won’t be able to come to Beyond The Heaven temporarily. Before leaving, she left something and asked me to give it when you come to find her.” Xiang Linmo took out a brocade bag and handed it to Meng Qi.
“Thank you.” Meng Qi marked the bag with her spiritual consciousness.
“Third Miss Xue said it will arrive tomorrow at the latest.” Xiang Linmo smiled slightly at Meng Qi. “I hope it won’t delay your business.”
After a pause, Xiang Linmo asked: “Have you heard about the Medical Cultivator Conference? I wonder if fellow Daoist will also attend?”
“Yes.” Meng Qi replied.
“That’s great.” Xiang Linmo suddenly smiled. He cupped his hands at Meng Qi. “I heard that the first-rate medical sects from the four realms would attend this conference. The decennial Grand Tournament for young medical cultivators will also be held as scheduled.”
Xiang Linmo looked a little embarrassed: “I’m also going to participate. I don’t know about third Miss Xue and fellow Daoist, but if we see each other in Xingluo City, I hope fellow Daoist can spend some time to chat over the wine.”
Meng Qi smiled slightly: “Alright.”
“That’s good.” Xiang Linmo clapped his hands excitedly, “At that time, I will also invite third Miss Xue. See you later in Xingluo City.” The man cupped his hands again, then turned around and went back to his courtyard.
Meng Qi also turned around and walked towards the teleportation array that would take her back. So it turned out that she really visited Beyond The Heaven. But why did she feel that besides asking sister Xue’s help, something else also happened?
Meng Qi walked in a daze. On the Profound floating island, there were still many cultivators from various sects waiting for the ‘rabbit’ to come. But other than that, everything seemed so quiet, nothing unusual.
Maybe she was confused by her drunkenness. Meng Qi raised her head and looked at the sky above. Several islands floating on top of one another, each was larger than the one below. At the highest point, the largest island that also seemed to be different than the others was floating leisurely on the other side of the sky above Beyond The Heaven City, keeping some distance from the remaining six floating islands. It looked so majestic and free.
Meng Qi shook her head again. She must be confused by the wine. After stepping into the teleportation array, some jumbled images suddenly flashed into her mind. Cloud waterfall, bamboo groove, tall sky, and the warm and powerful embrace of a white-robed man… But those images flashed too fast. They ran through Meng Qi’s mind and disappeared before she could catch anything.
She returned to her room at Ruyi Inn and stared dazedly at the jade slip in her hand.
Why did she have the feeling that….after she was drunk, she seemed to dream of her master?
Ah! And it was a very realistic Master!
He sternly refused to admit her as his disciple. Even his tone was so realistic. Like he did whenever he insisted that he wouldn’t be her master, despite all the things he taught her.
Meng Qi turned over and put the jade slip back into the storage space. The array for refining medicine, the array to assist her cultivations, and all kinds of spell… Anything he knew, and that was within Meng Qi’s comprehension, he would teach her. He never laughed at her ideas as whimsical, and instead would think it together with her and did his best to turn the ideas into reality.
She knew why Master didn’t want to recognize her as a disciple. It must be because her cultivation talent was so bad. Master was a peerless genius whose ability could pass through heaven and earth. Of course he didn’t want to accept a stupid disciple whose even Golden Core breakthrough has to be assisted.
But it’s okay. She remembered the time and place she met Master. Before that day came, she would train very hard and would no longer make him feel ashamed again.
In her previous life, she also used so many of Master’s spirit stones and precious materials. In this life, she would return them all.
Meng Qi cheered up instantly. Full of energy, she opened the door.
Qin Xiumo was still waiting outside. He stared at Meng Qi, looking up and down: “Something happened?”
“Yeah.” Meng Qi gave him a glance and answered vaguely. Qin Xiumo owed her so many spirit stones, and was selling himself to pay off his debts. She didn’t have an obligation to explain her private affairs to him.
Qin Xiu’s face became cold: “Where are you going now?”
“Where are you going?” Before Meng Qi could answer, another room in the courtyard suddenly opened. Before his figure could even be seen, Su Junmo’s voice has flown out first: “Coincidentally, I’m also free today. Since this is your first time in Fentian City, let’s go take a stroll together. If you need my help, don’t need to be polite. I will gladly help you.”
Qin Xiumo’s face darkened even more. Even Meng Qi’s calm expression turned ugly. The two looked at each other, and in a rare moment, had a tacit understanding.
“Huh? Why are you two standing in front of Meng Qiqi’s door? By the way, Meng Qiqi, are you alright? Do you have a headache? I forgot to tell you that Ruyi Inn’s wine is very strong. Before I had the time to warn you, you already finished the cup in one gulp.” Su Junmo kept chattering. He walked towards Meng Qi and Qin Xiumo.
Su Junmo actually had more things to say. But after much pondering, in the end, he still didn’t dare to reveal a single word. He could only talk about other topics: “By the way, Xue Chengxuan seems to be waiting for Chu Tianfeng. I heard this Fentian Palace young master has gone into seclusion after returning to his sect. Today, he should have left seclusion. How about we also give him a visit? Meng Qiqi, if you need something in Fentian City, it should be easier to ask for his help.”
Meng Qi: “…”
“Speaking of Fentian City, I suddenly remembered in our Demon Realm…you know that the Demon Realm is divided into nine heavens, right? There is also a city in the third heaven called Fen City(1). That’s right, you guessed it right, it was the territory of that fool Sikong Yan’s red fox clan. A long time ago, our demon race ancestors killed off all immortal devouring vine in the Demon Realms. But the bastards from the red fox clan quietly hid the vine’s last seed inside the Celestial Fire Prison in Fen City. The celestial fire isolated spiritual aura from outside and protected the vine’s whereabout. Despite the heavy search of our ancestors, this wicked thing left undetected.”
(1) Fen City: The same ‘fen’ character (焚, to burn) as in Fentian.
Meng Qi: “…”
She turned around and walked quickly toward the courtyard gate. She had never wanted to get strong this badly before! At least, she had to become stronger than this Su fox, so she could seal his mouth with one move!
Qin Xiumo’s reaction wasn’t much better. He quickly followed Meng Qi with a dark face. But the two of them knew that no matter how fast they walked…
Su Junmo’s figure flashed, and he has followed up in an instant: “There are many legends in the Demon Realm when it comes to the red fox clan. It is said that the red foxes produce many beauties, and the number one beauty in the Demon Realm often comes from the red fox clan. Nine thousand years ago, their clan leader was a charming beauty. She quietly bred the immortal devouring vine…”
“Immortal devouring vine?!” A man’s clear voice interrupted Su Junmo’s endless words.
Xue Chengxuan, dressed in a blue robe like yesterday, stood outside the courtyard where Meng Qi and her groups stayed. He looked at Su Junmo in surprise, then at Meng Qi and Qin Xiumo: “Brother Su, did you just say ‘immortal devouring vine’?”
Su Junmo pondered and nodded slowly: “Yes.”
