"Don't do anything?" Jasper snarled.

"That's what she told me, and then her future disappeared. I don't know why; she's not dead," Alice said.

"They fucking attacked her, Alice! We have to do something!" Jasper roared.

"Jasper!" Esme scolded him for his foul language. He ignored her.

"Marrisa said 'no'," Alice argued back.

Jasper's snarls vibrated the house, he was furious. He couldn't get to his wife.

"Stop it!" Melody yelled, the air rippled by her power, knocking down a few things.

Jasper was silent, everyone was.

"Why did the Volturi attack mom?"

"It doesn't matter why," Jasper seethed.

Melody rolled her eyes. "Alice, how can you tell that she's not dead?"

"She's still making decisions, I just can't see the outcome. It's like she isn't making decisions."

"Like she's possessed?" Bella asked suddenly.

"Yes," Alice frowned.

"I think I know what happened," Bella hopped off the counter she was sitting on. "There was a time that she was so angry with Charlie, she blacked out. Her eyes were all black and when she spoke, it didn't sound like her. Her powers got so severe that she almost killed Charlie."

"Maybe it was the curse that took over," Carlisle suggested.

"Why was she so angry?" Jasper asked.

"Well, Charlie was being kind of an ass that day. He threatened her a few times and that's when she blew up."

"She was being threatened. That's why it could have taken over. Aro threatened her, so maybe her curse took over. That's a possibility why Alice can't see her anymore. She's not familiar with the curse," Carlisle worked out a theory.

Bella and Melody nodded in agreement.

"I'm sorry, Jazz, but we just have to wait it out," Alice said softly.

Jasper plopped on the couch with his head in his hands. "I just got her back."

Melody walked to the couch and sat next to her father, leaning against him. Jasper wrapped one arm around her and kissed her hair.

"So, is anyone else wondering why Melody smells like wet dog?" Peter asked.

"She was past the treaty line," Edward sighed. "Sam and Paul found her."

"That's why she disappeared!" Alice exclaimed.

"Wait, those giant wolves have names?" Melody breathed.

"They're not just wolves, Melody. They're humans that can turn into wolves. Shapeshifters," Carlisle explained.

"Which one was the grey one?" Melody asked.

"Paul," Edward said cautiously.

"What was his deal? You said he imprinted. What does that mean?"

"WHAT!?" Rosalie, Peter and Alice yelled.

"Why is that a bad thing?" Melody had her voice raised. "Isn't that what baby animals do when they see their parents? Am I his mommy or something?"

A hysterical laugh burst out of Emmett. Jasper growled at him. Emmett put up his hands in surrender, his laughter slowly dying down.

"Or something," Edward grinned.

"I don't understand," Melody frowned.

"When they imprint, it means that they have found their soulmate," Carlisle said.

Melody's eyes widened. "So, he's i-in love with me?"

"Not necessarily," Edward chimed in. "I read his mind. He could quite possibly fall in love with you, but right now, all he wants to do is protect you at all costs. And you do have a choice. You can choose what he is to you."

"So, if I choose to not want to have anything to do with him, he'll obey that?"

Edward nodded. "It'll be very difficult for him, but yes."

"I'd choose that," Rosalie mumbled.

"Me, too," Jasper commented.

Melody started thinking. If Paul was to be her soulmate, maybe she should meet him. Her dad would probably fight tooth and nail to keep her from going back there. Should she just ask?

"Can I meet him?" Melody finally asked.

"Absolutely not," Jasper snapped.

"Why not?" Melody argued.

"You're not going," Jasper said with finality.

"Do you think you can stop me?" Melody challenged.

Jasper looked into her eyes, he could see the determination, he could feel it. His glare softened, he knew she would go there either way.

"No, I can't stop you. It's dangerous, that's why I don't want you to go."

Melody smiled and stood up.

"I won't be long," she smiled.

And she disappeared.

"Did... did she just teleport?" Emmett asked with wide eyes.

No one knew how to answer.

Marrisa and Jane walked through the halls of the Volterra castle. Both of their heels clicking on the stone floor. Jane kept her head bowed, frightened of the possible outcome of her fate.

"Why defend me, child?" Marrisa asked, her black out state still in tact.

"I'm not sure," Jane said shyly. "You forgave me, I don't know why he reacted that way. He's usually very reasonable."

Marrisa giggled. "My dear, he is not reasonable. He surrounds himself with power. It's a fetish of his."

"Why spare me? After what I did?"

Marrisa stopped walking, as did Jane. Marrisa slowly took Jane's hands, smiling lightly.

"You are still so young, and you can do so much more with your gift than you realize. Aro has kept you in the dark," Marrisa said.

"I can do more?" Jane seemed astonished.

"I can teach you, if you wish. I must warn you, it will be long and difficult."

Jane looked to the ground, lost in thought. Marrisa could tell that she was unsure.

"You will have to spend more time with the Cullens," Marrisa said, giggling at the face Jane made. "I know, its not something that will thrill either party."

"They won't accept me," Jane concluded.

"Probably not, but I do," Marrisa smiled.

Jane looked up, a sincere smile crept upon her lips. Then her eyebrows came together.

"What of my brother?" She asked.

"Alec? He must stay here for a while. His loyalty to Aro is too strong at the moment. We shall come back for him, though. I promise," Marrisa vowed.

Marrisa then offered her hand to Jane, gesturing to the front doors of the castle. Jane looked at the doors in awe, she was finally leaving.

"There is a catch," Marrisa warned.

Jane looked confused.

"Once you step out of this castle with me, you can never rejoin Aro."

Realization dawned on Jane's face. She blinked a few times, and slowly turned to look down the hallway behind her. Marrisa promised that she would come back for her brother, and for some reason Jane trusted her. Jane turned back to Marrisa and took her hand with confidence. Marrisa smiled, bringing Jane's hand to her lips. Marrisa gently kissed the top of her hand, leaving a shining print of her lips.
