In Alaska there were things man hadn't truly discovered, in a Great Lake with underground tunnels that leads to the sea, lived mermaids. These mermaids have been around for years, aiding in the disappearance of many of the locals for centuries. Many speculated of their existence but none could ever prove it.
Ryn was one of the many mermaids living in the water, to her sisters she was still a baby who needed to be watch. Though any chance she got she'd escape from their sights and explore the waters over and over again. She'd often journey to the underwater tunnels that lead to the ocean, but never go any further. One of the many rules in her pod was that no mermaids was allowed to leave the lake until mating season, for those old enough to participate. Another rule was never to go to the surface, if caught you'd be banished, stripped of your powers and tail. However Ryn found a loophole in the rules, as long as she stayed in the water she could not get in trouble. This allowed her to often go above the water and take in what the human world had to offer.
The lake was surrounded by big forest, with small bits of rocks and sand making up the shore. Throughout the year the trees and lake would be covered in snow and ice, and in other time it would show great variety of colors. This was one of those times, the snow and ice were melting making way for the green, showing the young mermaid change in seasons.
There, deep in the water emerged a small shape sticking close to the jagged rocks, well hidden from the human eye. Ryn stayed in between the cover of the rocks, allowing her to see the land without land dwellers seeing her. She loved looking at the scenery, seeing how different land was compared to the water. None of the animals or plants floated around like they did in the water, Ryn found that strange looking land animals were able to fly were called 'birds'.

Ryn loved the land air, even though it took her some time to get used to. She loved how the air smelled, the dirt when it was mixed with fresh dew was something she really enjoyed. Especially when the pretty colorful plants attached to the ground opened up, Ryn found they released the most pleasant scent she'd ever experienced.
Bathing in the suns warmth Ryn felt herself being lulled asleep when the sound of quick, rushed footsteps came through the tree line. Sinking into the water, Ryn watched curiously as a giant four legged beast with horns atop its head came running through the sand. Getting tackled down whilst a pained cry left it mouth, and the animal stopped moving. The smell of blood immediately filled her nose and caused her throat to burn in hunger, watching as the human sank its teeth into the bleeding animal.
Intrigued by the human, Ryn began making her way around the rock that hid her and floated in the water, her chin just above. Never had she seen a human hunt an animal so viciously, usually they killed it then dragged it back in the forest.
"I thought you were going to hunt a bear?" A beautiful blonde emerged through the tree line and watched as the man wiped his blood stained mouth.
Many humans ventured into the waters of her home, but none ever look as beautiful as the two people in front of her. They reminded her of the stone carvings that were at the bottom of the waters, with features so smooth and prominent. Ryn even had the thought that the blonde looked more beautiful than that of her oldest sister, Calissa, who was incredibly breathtaking.
"Damn things are in hibernation." The man growled, standing up from his kill with blood dripping down his chin.

Seeing the crimson liquid drove Ryn to the edge, she hadn't been hunting in days. Ever since the humans started hunting near the open waters near her home food had been incredibly scarce. With most of their hunt going to the elders and children, Ryn hadn't had a decent meal in weeks.
Opening her mouth she let out her siren song, aiming it towards the male, causing him to violently snap his head towards the water. Slowly he began making his way closer and closer, his female companion staring at him confused. She looked around to see if any prey he might've been interested was near by, but found none.
"Emmett, what is it?" She asked, worry laced in her voice as she reached for his arm, but he shook it off.
"Don't you hear that?" He questioned breathlessly. Ryn's song echoing through his head.
Rosalie listened into her surroundings finding nothing but animal chatter, whatever he was hearing was something she couldn't.
"Em, I don't hear anything. Emmett!" She yelled as her mate ran into the water, diving underneath the surface. "Emmett!"
Emmett swam deeper and deeper from the surface, with such speed that shocked Ryn. Usually by now they'd be struggling the hold their breath, sub-coming to their watery deaths. Seeing his persistence Ryn met him half way, her hands holding the side of his face as she leaned in to take a bite of his neck. Letting out a hiss of pain as her fangs met a rock hard surface, pulling back she saw his golden eyes widened as her spell wore off. Angered by her lack of food from the thing in front of her, Ryn let out a gargled hiss. Pushing her hands out in front her, Ryn sent the male out of the water, using that time to immediately swim away.
Emmett shot out of the water at intense speed, landing on the shore with a loud thud that echoed. Rosalie was immediately at his side, pushing his wet hair back as he coughed up water.
"What the hell was that?" She exclaimed, watching as the small cracks on her husbands face began to heal.
Looking up at his wife with a goofy grin and excited eyes, Emmett told her what he saw. Despite the danger he was just in he was all to excited about the discovery he made.
"Babe, there was a mermaid!"
