I'm dead
You groaned, eyelashes flickering as you attempted to open your eyes.
If I'm dead then why do I hurt so much?
Beneath you the ground was velvety soft and the smell of earth was increasingly noticeable. Your eyes opened into slivers as a soft golden light flickered through your eyelashes.
Where am I? Is this heaven?
Opening your eyes fully you stared up at the source of the light. You were in a cavern of some type and the source of light was an opening in the roof.
That's where I fell from.
You noted to yourself as you studied the rocky cavern form where you lay. After a few quick estimations you decided that you weren't in the best mind to really do the math and that the height of the cavern roof was obviously something a normal human could not have fallen from and survived.
So how did I survive?
You shifted your hand over the soft surface, plucking one of the multiple velvety feeling objects from beneath you and raising it over you face. It was a golden flower. You had never seen something as stunning as it before. The petals were so soft that it was almost hard to believe it was real, and the smell that wafted from the petals was so different from anything you had ever experienced before. Moaning in pain as you sat up, limbs feeling sore and stiff from what you assumed was the impact of falling. Sitting in the field of flowers you looks around in an attempt to get a grip of your bearings. "I must have landed on these flowers... as impossible as that is," you muttered before spotting an opening in the cavern wall.
Standing you stared up at the opening in the cavern roof while brushing yourself off, "I'm not going to be able to climb out. Guess the only reasonable option is to try find out where I am."
You started walking towards the cavern's tunnel, boots quietly scuffling against the rocky floor. Battling thirst and dizziness you continued forward, guiding yourself with one hand along the rocky wall.
As you walked along you passed by a number of traps, the first few had clues and even writing on the wall pointing out multiple switches and platforms that needed to be activated. Passing through easily you felt confident. That was until you met the first monster.
Your muscles froze up, stopping you in place as the creature approached. It resembled a frog but was much larger then any frog you had seen and a lot smarter. Swallowing you slowly backed up, "H-hey nice froggy... y-you're very nice looking today."
The frog seemed to not understand but the tone of your voice seemed to have carried the message over well enough, causing the frog to... blush? Before hopping away.

Releasing a sigh of relief you continued on. You were approached a few times more by different monsters but always seemed to talk your way out of the confrontation. This was a relief considering you didn't want to actually harm these creatures... as scared as you were.
I thought those legends about monster were... well legends.
Continuing forward you arrived at a small house. You knocked once on the door.
No answer.
You tried the door knob and were surprised that the door was unlocked.
"Hello?" You called out, unsure whether to enter or not.
Still no answer.
"No need to worry ________, you're just going to borrow their phone and then leave," You told yourself.
Proceeding carefully you searched for a phone but were unsuccessful, "Maybe they have one downstairs.
You proceeded down the steps that were near the front of the house and followed the winding corridor along. As you approached the door you noted a drop in temperature as white mist fogged up your vision each time you breathed out. Pulling your arms around yourself and rubbing your arms you felt the cold begin to chill you to the bone. A large door stood before you in the inky gloom of the corridor. You lay a hand upon the stone door and pushed. The door grated across the solid floor before giving in and swinging open. Tumbling out of the suddenly unopposed door you sunk into a white powder.
Snow
You shivered as you pulled yourself out of the freezing substance. A bang made you jump as you turned around to see the door had closed behind you followed by a click which you assumed must have been a lock. Pulling at the door your suspicions were proven true.
Huddling into yourself you turned to face the path and continued on in the cold dry air, regretting that you had not thought to grab a coat from the house before you had left.
As you continued on you felt your limbs become numb from the cold.
I would kill for a fire right now. Or even a coat
As though it was magic you noticed a branch protruding from a hedge, and on the hedge sat a warm looking coat. You rushed through the powdery snow and grabbed the coat, pushing your arms through the sleeves and pulling the warm jacket around you.
"Ugh, finally someone who understands," Came a rather grumpy voice.
You froze as the branch began to move, rising above you and a creature that somewhat resembled a deer moved out from behind the bushes. The branches, you realized, were actually horns. What surprised you was the abundance of shiny bauble like items hanging from the monsters horns.
"People have no respect. Always hanging such ridiculous items from my head," The monster muttered angrily.

"That must really... suck. Would you like me to help take them off for you?" You asked.
The monsters eyes went wide, "Would you! That would be amazing."
You nodded and made quick work of detangling the decorative objects from the monsters head. Once you were done the monster looked relieved.
"Would you be able to point me in the direction to the closest town?"
The monster obliged and motioned with its head along the path, "Snowdin's not far from here. Just a little further and you should be fine if you follow this path." Then the monster turned away and trotted off with a quick thanks.
Pulling the coat around you as the wind picked up you continued on towards the town Snowdin.
~ ~ ~ ~
You arrived at the front of a small town, the sign that greeted you read Welcome to Snowdin.
"Finally made it... now let's hope someone can help me out," You sighed, trudging along. You froze when you heard something that sounded a lot like sniffling. Looking around you spotted a small red huddled being sitting in the snow. They seemed to be crying.
Approaching you spoke softly, "Hello... are you alright."
The small being turned to looks at you, it's eyes widening in fright when it saw you. Your own eyes mimicked its own when you noticed it was a skeleton. A small one at that, like a child.
"D-D-DON H-HURT ME," The small skeleton cried as it shook with fright.
Surprise and sadness made your eyebrows knot together, "I won't hurt you. I just want to know if you're alright." You told the child, you had decided it was a child by the way it talked and acted. Lowering yourself to its height you attempted to look non-threatening.
The skeleton watched you didn't move.
"Where are you parents? Do you have a mummy or daddy somewhere?" You asked.
The skeleton bundled its gloved hands together, wringing them nervously, as he shook his head, "I-I LOST MY D-DADDY."
You nodded in understanding, slowly extending an open hand for the skeleton child to hold, "Would you like me to help you find him?"
The skeleton child looked nervous at first but noticed your honest expression and smiled slightly as he took your hand.
"My name is _____," You told the skeleton child with a smile.
The skeleton child smiled back, "P-PAPS."
"Paps?" You asked.
The small skeleton smiled and let out a strange sound which you realized was nervous laughter.
You stood up slowly as you held the monster child's hand gently. You began to walk along with the child who plodded beside you happily.
"Do you know where your house is?" You asked, deciding that would be the best place to go.
The child nodded and pointed down the street. As you walked in the direction he had motioned towards you talked to the skeletal child. After a few minutes the two of you were laughing happily as Paps (as he called himself) told you about his adventure he had been on before he got lost.
"Y-YOU ARE NICE __-_____," Paps said, stumbling over your name.
You blushed slightly at the adorableness of the child, "Thank you, Paps. I rather like you too." You told the adorable skeleton with a smile.
Heh maybe falling down here hasn't been all that bad. I mean I found out monsters are real and I got to meet this adorable kid.
That moment was ruined when a deep voice called out.
"PAPS!"
Your body became stiff as a purple glow engulfed your entire being. A sudden lurch to the right pummeled you into a brick building, pain shooting up your shoulder. You bit back a scream, instead letting out a groan. You glanced towards Paps. Relieved you noticed he had been unaffected by the purple aura. However before you could think of your own safety you felt yourself rocket upwards before plummeting to the ground again. This time there was a crack and immense pain shot up your right arm. Releasing a scream of pain, tears sprung into your eyes.
"D-DADDY!"
You glanced towards the sound of the voice. There stood Paps beside a second skeletal child who looked angrily at you. What really caught your attention though was the tall skeleton standing protectively before the two children. His hand was raised with the same purple aura surrounding it. You noticed the two large cracks in his face, both leading from his eye sockets. One eyes socket was black whilst the other housed a glowing purple orb.
He seemed to be saying something, however the words were lost in the pounding sound that filled your ears. You felt your body rise again, this time you were so distorted you almost didn't realise. You were flung into the wall again as the pain in your right arm increased and your body ached with a resounding thumping.
You were in so much pain you hardly noticed the small orange and red clothed child standing with his back to you, arms spread as he faced the taller skeleton. He seemed to be saying something but your vision was blurring as spots appeared and your eyes pounded with the sound of your heart. Slowly you slipped into darkness.
