"D'you think Aquarius will be okay?" Libra asked, looking genuinely concerned. "I dunno... how do you get over something like that?" Sagittarius wondered out loud. Libra nodded, gazing at the moon rising above our heads. "I know Cancer meant so much to her. It must be crushing... I just wish we could do something to help her, you know?" I nodded, as did Sagittarius. Sagittarius got to his feet, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "Libra, let's go." I frowned, looking over at him. "Where are you going?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Just... out. Just the two of us," Sagittarius replied. I had just about had it with Sagittarius' behaviour ever since we'd come back from Christmas break. All of a sudden, all he cared about was Libra, Libra and Libra. It was as if they were together and I was the third wheel. Completely ignorant to my feelings, he had continued to ignore my comments and outbursts, acting like nothing was wrong at all. Deciding it was time to speak up, I rose to my feet, placing myself between Libra and my boyfriend.
"Sagittarius, have you completely forgotten about me or something?"
"What are you talking about?"
"I do happen to be your girlfriend, in case you've forgotten."
"Of course you're my girlfriend! What's the problem, Aries?"
"Are you really that thick?"
"What are you on about?"
"Sarge, we never go out anymore! You're always ditching me, leaving me behind forgetting about me-"
"I'll just go..." Libra interjected. I grabbed her hand firmly.
"Don't you try to wriggle out of this, Leebs! You've been blowing me off too!"
"Aries, it's me you're mad at, don't drag Leebs into this-"
"See this is exactly what I mean! You don't care about me! It's always Libra this and Libra that. Honestly, it's like you two are dating or something!"

"How can you say that? We've been best friends since we started middle school, Leebs and I, you know we go way back! I'm sorry if you don't have that connection with anyone!"
"Oh, so now you're telling to go find myself a best friend-slash-soulmate type?"
"What's that meant to mean?"
"Oh, please. Anyone who goes out with you knows that you come as a two-in-one! Leebs is wherever you are! You two are practically inseparable and it's infuriating! It's like you're in love with her!"
"Well, of course I love her-she's my best friend!"
"Aw, Sarge, that's so sweet-"
"Not now, Libra! You know what? I'm sick of you constantly forgetting me! It's nearly Valentine's Day, and have you asked me if I'd like to go out with you? No! My birthday is next month, and have you even shown the slightest motivation to do something for me? No! Instead, you're going on about your Valentine's Day gift for Libra and her Mom's birthday party and everything else involving her-"
"A present for me? Sarge, you don't have to do that-"
"Shut up, Libra!"
Sagittarius huffed, looking rather furious.
"Don't speak to her like that."
"Stop it! Stop always opting for her! Stop always protecting her!"
"She looks out for me and I look out for her. That's just how it works, Aries."
"You know what, Sagittarius?"
"What?"
"Damn you and your Libra and your dense attitude. We're over." Reaching for the earrings Sagittarius had gotten me, I took them off hastily, shoving them into his palm. "Keep your stupid earrings." Sagittarius stood there, shocked, looking down at his earrings. Libra sighed, gulping uneasily. "Guys, you can work this out, it doesn't have to end like this-" I turned toward Libra and Sagittarius, my blood boiling. "Yes, it does. Our relationship does." Reaching for my metal bracelet engraved with our names, I threw it at Libra's feet, turning away.

Nothing else mattered-I just had to leave. I just had to let it all out. As I ran, I crashed almost headfirst into Cancer, who seemed to be out for a night time jog. "Whoa, Aries, are you okay?" he asked, taking out his earphones. I sighed, sniffling. "No. I'm not okay, Cancer. It's just... I don't know." Cancer patted the bench behind us. "Sit down. Let's talk." I smiled, taking a seat next to Cancer. "So, what is it?" he asked, looking at me full in the face.
"Do you ever feel like you've got nobody? Like the whole world is so... so big and bright and full of wonder and colour but you're just sitting in a big, black-and-white room without anyone by your side?"
Cancer sighed, looking out at the ocean rather thoughtfully. "I used to think that with my personality and my eagerness to meet new people, I would never feel lonely, if that's what you mean, but here I am, surrounded by so many people, so many things, and yet I feel alone. So I think I do get how you feel. But, I do have to ask, what made you feel this way?" He hesitated. "Or... who?"
I let out a rather hoarse chuckle. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
"Well, I just arrived at a school where a dead student just happened to share my name, so try me."
"You know Sagittarius and Libra?"
"Yeah..."
"Well, I just broke up with Sagittarius."
"Oh, that's horrible... Why?"
"He doesn't even care about me anymore. He's so loyal to Libra, his best friend, that he's forgotten about me. About us. Libra's never around anymore either, and I miss them. I feel like I'm just there, you know? Like there isn't a single person out there who really wants just me and nobody else to be their first priority. And that... that just makes me feel so, so alone."
Cancer took my hand, turning to face me. "Well, Aries, I haven't been here very long, and I've only just gotten to know you, but from what I can tell, you deserve, so, so much more."
"You really think so?"
"I don't think so. I know so." He paused, smiling. "One day, you'll find someone who will make you feel like you're the biggest, brightest, most wondrous person to exist. They'll come into that little, black-and-white room of yours and they'll help you colour it in."
He planted a kiss on my cheek, smiling gently.
"One day, Aries, you won't be so alone. I promise."

Tales of Ordinary, Completely Unremarkable Contractors
"Where life had no value, death, sometimes, had its price. That is why the mercenaries appeared." - Artur Xerxes, in A Century of Disappointment: Memoirs of a Travelling Dwarf It's never too difficult to land contracts for a set very specialised skills in a continent teeming with werewolves, vampires, giant leopards, undead and, god forbid, elves. The difficulty comes when these contractors find themselves suffocated in the dense atmosphere of this world's rigid - and mostly unfair - rules; death, suffering and misfortune await those unwilling to sacrifice to bend these in their favour. In this non-linear plot, you will observe a scarred and deformed farm girl cashing her first bounty posters, a seemingly ordinary barmaid at a tavern in the bustling centre of a sprawling, corrupt city and an enigmatic leader of a firm specialising in dealings any other would consider suicidal. Watch them all take everything to the next level at every available opportunity, and then feel dread at the thought that this still might not be enough to halt the physical embodiment of doom about to do what it does best Please, feel free to review and comment! Any sort of feedback can help me become a better writer and write more engaging stories for you. I used to update once every 3-5 days, but this rewrite is taking much too long...I do hope it will be worth it.
