Jaehyun and Johnny sat in silence waiting for their boss to arrive.
They both knew the clock was ticking. Soon, Donghyuck's punishment would be over and they both had no idea what would happen from there.
The door to the office opened up and in came the angel over all angels, Lee Taemin, accompanied by Kim Doyoung. Taemin passed them both his healing smile and Jaehyun returned it whereas Johnny gave him a bow.
"Don't be so formal, Johnny," Taemin said. "I don't like to be viewed as someone with a higher status, you know that."
"Sorry," Johnny chuckled. "I'm just so used to your father being the head."
Taemin recently took his father's place as the angel over all angels. Just like in the human world, someone needs to be the one who takes the lead. You could consider Taemin as what humans would call a king, just with the exception that Taemin doesn't come off as one.
He prefers to be treated the way all angels get treated, which is what makes him so loved. He doesn't use his status to empower himself, much to the opposite of his now deceased father.
"Let's start, shall we?" Doyoung asked and took a seat opposite of Jaehyun. Taemin sat next to him and the meeting began.
"Lee Donghyuck, the angel of Mark Lee is currently serving punishment for his actions," Jaehyun started and Johnny's facial expression fell.
"Lee Donghyuck?" Doyoung raised a brow. "As in the innocent little Donghyuck?"
Jaehyun nodded slowly and Doyoung felt his heart drop a little.
"What kind of punishment is he serving?" Taemin asked.
"The sideways trance," Jaehyun gulped. He took a long breath before continuing. "He's been in it for almost two weeks now, and has fainted as he's starting to remember now."

"He broke the most punishable rule," Taemin spoke. "Why is he getting the sideways punishment?"
Jaehyun looked at Johnny, asking with his eyes for the older to say it. He couldn't say it, the guilt being too much within him. It isn't Jaehyun's fault, he knows that, but he can't help feeling guilty as he was the one who gave Donghyuck the punishment.
Johnny heaved a sigh. "Donghyuck he-"
"He's in love with Mark, his human."
Doyoung's eyes widened and he looked at Taemin with frightened eyes. "This is exactly what happened with Ten. The sideways punishment is cruel for angels who are in love with their human. What if he can't take it?" Doyoung was scared. He knows Donghyuck quite well, and he knows how fragile and sensitive the younger is.
Taemin shifted a little in his seat. "He did break the most important rule, and the punishment is what he deserves, so he really has no choice but to make it through. Once his punishment is over though, I suggest we keep an extra eye on him. I'm afraid that's all we can do. I know this is really cruel, but we can't do more than that."
"Once his memories have recovered fully, he'll go back to his angel trance. Everyone who ever interacted with him in the human world will forget him completely, including Mark, so it's going to be a hard time for him. Johnny, you'll have to take care of him when that time comes, I trust you," Taemin told them, and stared faithfully at Johnny as he spoke the last sentence.
Johnny nodded. "I'll do anything for Donghyuck. He's like a little brother to me."

The meeting had finished and Jaehyun couldn't find Johnny anywhere. The older had simply vanished. He thought about where Johnny could be, and once he got an idea his expression softened and he sighed.

With a simple snap of a finger, Jaehyun traveled to the human world, just seconds later appearing in a dark house where he found Johnny looking down on two people.
Jaehyun soared over to the sad angel and patted his back, glancing down at the two the older was watching. There Donghyuck laid, unconscious on a couch, Mark sleeping in a crouched position next to him, his hand intertwined with Donghyuck's and head resting by the latter's nape.
Jaehyun took a deep breath and Johnny, who was already very aware of the younger angel's presence, soared down to the ground like a fallen leaf, landing on the floor next to the couch. He walked closer to the two boys and reached his hand out for Donghyuck.
"We aren't aloud to touch, you know that," Jaehyun said causing Johnny glance up at him.
"Donghyuck's not a human. I can touch him," the older mumbled and let his big hand caress Donghyuck's golden locks.
Jaehyun didn't stop him and only watched with a sad frown. And as Johnny retreated his hand, he accidentally brushed it over Mark.
Mark flinched and he woke up, the goosebumps appearing gradually as he felt a feeling on his neck he had never felt before. Johnny quickly moved his hand away and took a few steps back.
"Hello?" Mark whispered. He glanced around the dark room with shaking eyes. "Is anyone here?" he asked, his voice cracking as he felt like something wasn't normal.
Jaehyun sighed. "Good job, Johnny. Now you made the poor boy terrified," he spoke and soared over next to the taller, watching Mark look around anxiously. "Humans aren't used to the touch from an angel."
Johnny looked down. "Sorry, I didn't intend to touch him."
Jaehyun chuckled and patted the older's back, landing his gaze back on the scared human. "Look."
Johnny looked back up and he saw how Mark stood up, squeezing his arms under Donghyuck's body and lifting the unconscious boy up in his arms.
"Let's go up to the bed, okay Haechan?" Mark whispered. "Something feels strange down here," he added and carried the tanned boy towards the stairs, carefully holding his tiny body.
The two angels watched him disappear up the stairs, a subtle smile appearing on both of their lips.
"Mark's quite the protective one, huh?" Jaehyun laughed. "He's taking good care of our Donghyuck."
Johnny smiled. "He's in love as much as Donghyuck is."

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14

Mortis Operandi 1- New Hire
Thank you for reading, I have to start with that. The feedback and encouragement from RoyalRoad users helped me finish my book. I left the unedited version up as I worked on editing and making it a little more polished. However the time has come for me to put it on Amazon and hopefully let other people read the story. If you have Kindle unlimited you should be able to read the story there. If you just want to order an ebook version you can do that as well. I should have a paperback version coming up. https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07T46B4NM Again thank you for reading and helping me on this journey. It hasn't ended however, my second book which I'm hoping to do well enough that reading the first isn't completely necessary, is still being worked on here, https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/24562/mortis-operandi-2--terms-and-conditions . Any feedback, comments, even critism is welcome as I work on giving you the best version of my story. I'll leave the first two chapters up here, unless Amazon says otherwise. There should be enough differences to avoid issues though. THANK YOU! Thank you! thank you! __________________________________ Adventurers enter dungeons every day. Battling evil monsters, defying dangerous terrain, triumphing over devious traps... ... but none of them ever ask why? That arrow trap, who reloads it? The pitfall trap, who cleans out the bodies and sharpens the spikes? What if the grates get clogged, where will the blood and gore drain? When you are trying to study ancient lore or plan on conquering a kingdom, you don't want to worry about all that. You just want peace. Mortis Operandi is a different kind of company. One that celebrates diversity. One that celebrates value in individuals. With flexible pay and plenty of advancement opportunities, it is a company that knows its workers are it's most valuable asset. As they design, build, and install traps, rooms, obstacles, and repair they are a one stop shop. When a possible recall sets events into motion, the company must pivot in a new paradigm of full circle Dungeon service. The Goblin Eft No-toes has a solution that entwines ex-adventurer Elric into the business of death. *Note the above statements are forward looking statements. In no way do they promote or suggest that Mortis Operandi will project greater sales or revenue. Understand that investing in a company does involve some risks, and possibly much rewards.
