Donghyuck's fifth birthday was a very special day.

Why?

Because all guardian angels receive their human the day they turn five. Donghyuck had waited for this day since forever and he didn't know what to expect.

He didn't know what gender his human was going to have. Not that he cared that much, because he would be happy either way. He didn't know if his human would be older or younger than himself. The age of an angels human would depend on when they started to do things without being supervised by their parents all the time. That's where the angels would kind of take over.

One of the older angels named Jaehyun had gotten his human three years ago and Donghyuck had accompanied him in the human world a few times. The whole concept of taking care of a person really made Donghyuck excited.

Jaehyun's human was just a newborn when he got him. His name was Jisung and his parents were busy and didn't have much time to take care of him, so that's why Jaehyun was assigned to be his guardian angel when Jisung was at such a young age.

Donghyuck was hoping to get a human his age and not a newborn baby.

So the moment he met Mark, he couldn't be happier. Mark was drawing with crayons, a little pout evident on his face when Donghyuck was sent to the human world to see him for the first time. Oh, how he just wanted to join him on the floor and ask what he was drawing.

But he couldn't.

He could never.

"Never get too close to your human."

"Never touch them."

"Never speak to them."

"Don't break your angel trance."

"And the biggest rule, Donghyuck."

"A rule you must break."

Donghyuck looked up at Jeongin. "What?"

The younger rolled his eyes and repeated what he just said. "I asked, do you really like Mark?"

The thirteen-year-old Donghyuck froze. "I-I don't know," he mumbled and passed Jeongin an uneasy look.

Jeongin's gaze was full of worry for his best friend. "You do know angels can't love? It's dangerous," he said and fixed his glasses.

And yes, that was true. Angels aren't made to be able to love, but funny enough, just like some humans aren't able to love, some angels are. And maybe, just maybe, Donghyuck was slowly becoming one of the few.

"What if I do?" he asked uncertainly, a tint of sadness hidden in his words.

"There's nothing wrong with it if you do," Jeongin promised and hugged him. "Just be careful," he whispered.

"If you end up doing something stupid they'll send you into a trance."

Donghyuck just loved Mark's bedtime stories.

They were so unique and Mark's way of speaking made them feel so real. Donghyuck had imagined so many times how it would be if Mark told a story about someone like him. A story about someone like Donghyuck.

And that one day. That one darn day, Donghyuck's love just wanted to be seen by its owner.

So he did something despite knowing it's consequences.

He interfered with Mark's life. He manipulated the older's mind, something angels are only allowed to do in life-threatening situations.

And that evening, Mark told his little sister a wonderful story about a boy named Haechan.
