《Fireflys》Chapter 9

"Girl time! Girl time! Girl time!" We chanted, riding Bessie down the road.
"So, what do you want to do first?" I chuckled.
Polly turned to me and grinned.
"I'm thinking, go to Stumpy's, watch a millipede race, and SEE JAX SUNFLOWER!!"
"Who's Jax?" I asked
She rolled her eyes, "the guy you were talking to yesterday."
I thought back to yesterday.
"The little kid we were talking to at the lake?" I asked.
"Nooo." She groaned, "the one you got free food from!"
The guy with the skewers?
"Why would we go see him?" I asked.
"Because, it'll be fun! Now, let Girl time commence!" She cheered.
The first place we stopped at was Stumpy's. Stumpy gave us a special thing that he was trying out, and it was delicioussssss. And I didn't even know what it was!!
And as we walked around, everyone was so surprised that I was a frog now. They didn't question it though. They just were fascinated with my new look. The mayor even gave me some coppers!
After talking with different people for about an hour, we headed to a millipede race course. And these were bigg millipedes. There were about six or so millipedes, and they were chasing after large carrots around the race track. It was like dog racing, but with giant bugs!
We stopped by a few other places after that. A few shops, bought some things, and got some gifts for Sprig and Hop Pop with the copper that the mayor gave us.
"Ah, I love girl time" I grinned, leading Bessie down the road.
"I know right?! And now, to see Jax!" She jumped.
"Alright, I guess.. Why are you so excited about him?" I asked.
"Oh, just because.." she grinned.

Hehehehe.. I'm going to invite Jax over for dinner, and then Sprig will get jealous, and it'll be a FIGHT TO THE DEATH!!!! Well...maybe not that....eh, it'll be comedic.
"Alright, we're here." Anne parked Bessie, and we walked over to the skewer truck.
"Hey Jaxxx!" I smirked, jumping on the counter next to him.
"Oh, hey Pols." He chuckled.
"Two skewers please!"
He handed us two skewers, and Anne handed him some copper.
"Naw, it's on the house again, Princess." He winked.
Oh. Mah. Gosh.
*nose bleed*
"That's not a good way to run a buisness-" I quickly cut off Anne.
"Heheheee" I coughed, "Uh..so, Jax. Would you like to come over for dinner tonight?" I asked.
"Wha-?" I slapped Anne's arm with my tail to keep her quiet.
"Dinner? Sounds fun." He chuckled towards Anne.
"Great! 6pm sound good?"
"Sounds good, little lady." He have a thumbs up.
"Alright! Bye!" I waved, and jumped into Anne's arms.
We walked back to Bessie and I jumped on her.
"Why did you invite him to dinner? You didn't ask Hop Pop-"
"Eh, Hop Pop will be finneee" I chuckled.
After a long snail ride, we finally made it back home. I parked Bessie in her pasture and gave her some food, and then picked up everything and headed towards the door.
"So, Why'd you get them that junk? Are they even going to like it?" Polly asked.
"Uh, of course! I'm an expert at shopping for people!" I chuckled.
We got into the house, and saw Hop Pop and Sprig playing a board game.
"Hey boys!" Polly chuckled.
"Oh, hey Anne and Polly." Hop Pop said, rolling a di.
"I got you two presentsss" I sang.

They both stopped moving, then shot up excitedly.
"Really?!" They both asked.
I nod, and pull out some things from my bag.
"For you Hop Pop, I have a ship in a bottle of The Red Sea beetle, and some Daisy body mist and moisturizer!" I hand him the decent sized bottle, and the two containers of Daisy-smelling things.
He took them and hugged them close, beginning to tear up.
"My favorite flower, and the ship that my great great great great grandfather voyaged on...Thank you Anne!" He happily cried over my shoulder. Man..I'm short now..
I chuckle and pat his back. Once he pulled away, I reached in the other bag.
"For you, Sprig, I behold a Manbug 'action figure', and a 5 ft long stuffy of a millipede."
His eyes glowed as he took them. He hugged up against me.
"You know me so well"
I heard Polly snickering behind me, before disappearing up the stairs.
I thought back about Jax and how Polly invited him.
"Oh, Hop Pop?" I said as Sprig pulled away, "just so you're aware, Jax is coming over for dinner at 6."
Sprig looked up at me, shocked, and looking slightly annoyed.
"What?! Why did you invite him? Do you like him or something??" He asked.
I threw my hands up in defense.
"Chill, dude! I didn't invite him. Polly wanted to for some reason." I shrugged.
"Alright." Hop Pop cleared his throat, getting everyone's attention, "even if we aren't sure of this, the boy's still coming over. And since it's 5pm, I should probably start dinner now." He turned and started walking towards the kitchen. He turned around again, "and none of you go tearing each other up now!"
Once Hop Pop disappeared, Sprig hugged his millipede plush and action figure, looking less enthusiastic.
"I'm going up to my room.." he sighed, walking up the stairs.
Annnddd, I'm alone....
"Alright then..I guess I'll go help Hop Pop cook then?"
I wander into the kitchen, and talk through what me and Hop Pop were making for dinner. Something simple, yet tasty. Once we were almost done, there was a knock at the door.
"I'll go get it." I tell Hop Pop, walking towards the door. Once I get into the living room, I see Polly about to open the door. She wore clip on earrings, a long necklace that dragged on the floor, and a red bow.. ...she doesn't have ears.....or a neck.....
".............don't judge me!" She chuckled, and opened the door.

8 143Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.

There were 2 options: Fight the same war for countless more aeons. Shatter the Betrayer's undead legions time and time again until all was ground to dust. Because the endless legions truly never end. A hair's breath of ground in a century is enough if the war takes all of eternity. Or to choose Hope. To cast away his memories, his power, his very life. To wager everything on a chance to prevent their eventual end or to perish trying. Because if he were to return it would be with the power necessary to finally slay what remains of the Betrayer. Of the last Aspect. Only then would all things be right. And so, he chose the latter. Expect:Weak to strong quick-ish.Powerful MC reincarnates, gradually starts regaining memories.MC that is an actual character not a plot device. My original unique magic system discovered along with the MC.My original setting with mythos that have both been living rent free in my head for actual years.Opening arc will be less fast than the following story. Good writing (I think) and grammar. Upload schedulle: 2 chapters a week of 3-4k words each. I want to upscale to 3 in the future. Meant to be read in RR dark mode. For those coming here from my other stories, this is indeed a reimagining of my older story, CotM. I say reimagining because I have changed so much it cannot be called just a rewrite. Among the major changes, MC is fundamentally different in personality and background, I have actually planned the story out and changed it almost completely and I have adjusted my mythos so it no longer has as many holes as swiss cheese.

No, my name’s not Doug. I lied. Waking up in this hospital bed and right away I’m being questioned. They say I’m a hero, saved some girl. I don’t remember any of that. Like the stories you read, a stranger in a strange world where magic and fantasy races exist, but technology hasn’t advanced. It was all just a slice of life as I learned and grew in this world. Was… Author’s notes. Original work. First draft. Inspired by various fantasy games and books. Written with a focus on character development and interaction. Combat, progression, leveling, classes, but no numbers or stats. I’ll try to keep the language clean, PG-13, no smut. I’m in the US, writing in English. I intend to complete this story or at least bring it to a proper ending. I have a destination in mind. I find as I write, doors and ideas open, while others close and are discarded. I'm new to creating. My apologies now while I learn. I have not settled on a book cover or artwork, still looking for something that fits. Registered & Protected #20VjeKDv2U6nynW6
