The sound of me tapping my pen was all I could hear, I didn't want to listen to the other students because I'd rather keep to myself. I was thinking about something until the classroom actually went quiet. I didn't bother looking up because it was probably something that didn't have anything to do with me. I stopped spacing out when I heard an "Excuse me..." I looked up to see...Teru Minamoto?... What does he want? "Do you mind if I sit next to you?" me?... Why me?... I was completely and utterly confused "sure...do what you like"
I heard some people whispering and I instantly started to space out. Ah, it seems I forgot to explain the deal with Teru Minamoto, he was one of the popular kids. The ones who are extremely polite and perfect, I never really cared about that kind of stuff considering I was nothing special. "Excuse me, but can you tell me your name?" so he wants my name now? Alright then..."I'm [Y/N] [L/N]...there's no point in introducing yourself Teru Minamoto!" his polite expression turned into a shocked one. More whispers could be heard but I honestly didn't care. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you [L/N]" I gave him a small smile "You too..." we began to converse until the teacher walked into the classroom.
After class, Teru and I started talking about studies, life at home, and other stuff. Many people looked down on me for being friends with Teru, mostly the girls. I still don't know why he would want to be friends with me. Us being too polite with each other caused a problem too, so we decided to show our true colors by just being awkward and weird. We were comfortable that way.

"Wait, so you're telling me you have a brother?" he chuckled nervously "Yeah, didn't I tell you this before?" I huffed "It's not my fault I'm a forgetful person!" we went silent for a moment and then started laughing. "[L/N]!" I turned to see Nene Yashiro "Oh! Hey Yashiro! What do you need?" she looked at Teru "Oh, hey Minamoto-senpai!" he waved "Ah! So I really need you to help me with the homework! I have something really important to do, and it's just this once!"
I sighed and nodded "Sure, hand it over and I'll give it to you tomorrow..." she smiled and hugged me "Thank you so much [L/N]! You're the best!" I smiled and she gave me the homework. "Bye Yashiro!" she ran away and I looked at Teru. "Sorry, that was my friend, she's kinda crazy but she's very nice too!" he chuckled "I can tell..."
We kept on talking while I did Nene's homework "Hey [L/N]?" I kept writing "What do you need?" he smiled "Wanna finish up at my house?" I nodded and we got our stuff. We walked to his house and just kept talking about random stuff. "Hey, I'm home!" a boy who I assume was his brother walked down the stairs "He- You brought a girl over?" he nodded and smirked "Wow, you never told me you had a girlfriend" I turned red and laughed "Sh-she's my best friend!" Teru helped me with the rest of the homework and we just chilled the whole time.
Eventually, I spaced out. That's when I remember what Teru's little brother said. 'I guess we do like each other but do we like each other in that way?... How does he feel about me?... Wait... why am I thinking about this?... Do I like him or something?!' I sighed and sat up "Hey, can I talk to you about something?" he nodded "Sure, what happened?" I sighed "I like someone" he looked surprised and sat up "That's cool...who's the lucky person?" I giggled "hm...I won't tell you!" he smiled but I could tell it was fake "Then what's he like?" I pretended to think "He's very funny and more of a...like...not what he seems person!" he looked away "Well, you should just tell him that you like him" I put my hands on my hips "Alright! I'll tell him tomorrow " he smiled and I left, not without getting my stuff of course.

The next day, I gave Nene her homework and sighed. I walked down the hallways until I saw Teru "Heyyy!" he smiled "Hey [N/N]!" ok...here it goes..."So... about yesterday... I wanted to tell you that I like you!" he put his hand on my head and smiled "I like you too [N/N]..."

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.

Nights of Sambria: And the Wish of Light
“I discovered a secret. One I desperately wish could have stayed hidden. It was locked away, concealed in a fantastical world on the doorstep of 7 billion people who stayed utterly oblivious to it. If they will be spared the terror that is coming, I can’t begin to imagine. Know that a forgotten heritage of a dwindling people whispered, unknowingly sending a call to the ancient mysteries of the world. Something listened. And now events are set in motion that could force the earth on a course of terrible change. I am being hunted and have run out of time. There were no stories about it. No legends. Not even scribbles. Yet, the threat of it is real and that’s why I’m writing this warning with shaking hands. So pay attention those who read this, be careful of what lies waiting cloaked in the darkness. That which made their home the lost places of this world.” She folded the letter with a shuddering breath and stared back in the direction from where the noise reverberated through the halls. It was of stone doors shattering one by one. The chances of getting out safely were all but gone. The letter in her hand was all warning they would have. It dropped into one of the Wells and all that could be done now was hope it was found in time, if at all. -- This was my very first large story. ;) I started writing it years ago. Was fun, was difficult, but in the end, it is a story I hope that will inspire. The prologue is in first person perspective and the rest of the story in 3d. Just a little heads-up :P It is a fantasy epic with a contemporary twist for the start. The first arc of the novel is set inside our modern world, but as the mysterious events around Calin intensifies, the hidden secrets in the world start to become more fantastical. The story follows Calin, a young orphan in search of answers. But, the answers he seeks will change his life and that of his friends forever, for the secrets that caused his situation have far greater ramifications than the small village of Lamb's Crest could have known. Remember to leave ratings and reviews. I'm quite interested in hearing your thoughts on the story. ;) Enjoy reading, Omri Hope
