《Semblance of Brutality》If There's A Will...

Like she promised, Yang beats me to the marketplace. As a result, she gets to decide where we go this time. I follow her to a small, wooden stand that has a sign with "Dust sold here" painted on it. I've heard a few people say some things about Dust during my time here, but I still haven't figured out what it is.

"Yang?" I ask, drawing her attention away from the Dust stand momentarily.

"What is it?"

"What exactly is this Dust stuff?"

She laughs a little to herself. "Dust is what allows normal people to use magic. It comes in different colors, which correspond to different elemental effects. You can even use it to add those same elemental effects to your semblance if you have the right equipment!"

Can my suit do that? There's only one way to find out, I assure myself. Hopefully we'll get to try it before the day is done.

"Ah, okay. Thanks for clearing that up." I pause before moving onto the next question I have. "Wanna buy some?"

"Who? Me? Noooo," she says sarcastically, "I only brought you here to look at it," Yang giggles.

"Alright, alright. You drive a hard bargain, miss," I tell her, playing along. "I'll use the rest of this Lien here to-"

"Nope. I've got this one covered. Besides, you're gonna use that Lien to buy me some noodles."

"Since when?"

"Since now," she says happily.

Yang drops some Lien on the stand and takes a few crystals of Dust; one red, one white, one yellow, and one blue. She hurries over to the noodle stand, dragging me behind her. We sit down and she orders two large bowls of noodles. When we finish eating, the cook holds out his hand, waiting for payment. I take out the small bag of coins and pour what remains into his hand. Thankfully, it is just enough to cover the food.

"What do you wanna do now?" she asks.

"Well," I begin, "if it isn't too much trouble, I kinda want to go try out that Dust stuff."

"I was hoping you would say that," Yang smirks.

She grabs ahold of my wrist and the two of us hurry back to Qrow's. By the time we get there, the sun is directly overhead. Yang turns to me and holds out the four Dust crystals. I decide to try out the red Dust first. I take the crystal in my hand and crush it. My suit is outfitted with a substructure that distributes energy via built-in capillary tubes; I doubt that distributing the effects of Dust crystals is any different.

"What are you-" Yang begins to protest.

"Wait for it," I tell her, holding up an index finger.

I begin to glow a fiery orange. There is a sort of heat flowing through me; it definitely worked. I open my right hand, my palm facing the sky, and a fireball forms in it. Without much hesitation, I chuck it at a nearby metal siding, careful not to start a fire. After a few more practice tosses, I feel the warmth inside my veins fade, and the glow around me fades.

"Wow," Yang says, "you're quite a natural. Normally, it takes people a few tries to even get the hang of using Dust. Nice job. Which one do you wanna try next?"

"I'll go with... yellow this time."

Like before, I take the Dust crystal from her and crush it in my palm. This time, I feel the slightly-painful tickle of electricity as tiny bolts of lighting crackle around my armor. I go to move, and find I can do so much faster. Yang sees this, and, as a test of speed, throws a punch at me. I move out of the way and hear her ask "Where'd you go?" Somehow, I managed to turn myself invisible. When the Dust wears off a few seconds later, I become visible again.

"Wow!" Yang says, wide-eyed. "So that just happened." She remains silent for a moment. "Two left. What'll it be?"

"How about we go with blue this time?" I ask before taking the blue crystal and crushing it.

The crystal caves easily with force and I feel its energy spread through my armor. I feel... completely the same. It feels like nothing has changed, but something has; there's a faint blue glow around me. The only problem is that it seems like that's the only thing that happened. I must've had a certain look on my face, because Yang instantly picks up that something's off.

"What is it?" she asks.

"I don't know, exactly. There's not a certain 'feel' to this one; all I've noticed is this blue glow," I tell her.

"There's- there's gotta be more to it than that," she says, seeming just as puzzled as I am.

Out of nowhere, she starts to throw a punch, just to see if it affected my fighting in any way. I, however, see it coming and grab her fist just before it impacts with my face. The blue Dust did have an effect, and it was improving my reflexes. We gaze into each other's eyes for a moment, startled at how fast I'd stopped her. She tries to use her other fist to hit me, startling me and causing me to flinch for a moment. When I reopen my eyes, I'm a couple feet away from her, and she has a look of shock on her face.

"How- how did you-?"

"How did I what?" I ask, curious as to why she's so shocked.

"I went to hit you and you just- you were just over there suddenly. I think you teleported," she tells me, unsure of the words coming out of her mouth.

As she finishes her thought, the blue glow around me fades. This Dust stuff is crazy! I silently wonder what the white crystal will do. Some cool ice powers, perhaps? The possibilities - however wild and impossible they seem - are endless!

"Last one!" Yang says excitedly before tossing the white Dust crystal into my hands.

"Last one," I tell myself before using one hand to pulverize the Dust.

Immediately, I feel lighter and more agile. Some wind visibly gusts around me, mainly my fists. I nod to Yang and she raises her arms in a defensive blocking position, ready for me to try hitting them. I do, and the force of the impact pushes her backwards a couple feet.

"Whoo!" she exclaims. "I felt more than just the breeze on that one!"

I get a few more practice hits in before the Dust's energy fades. Now, the sun that was once directly above our heads is preparing to descend into the horizon, giving way to Remnant's silver, shattered moon. Qrow opens the door and shouts "Dinner time for the two remaining children!" We'd used today well, that's for sure. Yang rushes inside, and I hurry after her to ensure she doesn't eat my food as well.
