"Raven!" he called out to said person.

"Yes?" she asked as she stopped what she was doing to look at you and Charles.

"Could you spar with (y/n)?" he asked.

"What?" you squeaked, "you want me to go against Raven? She's too good!"

"That'll help you learn." He said as he patted your shoulder, "I trust you'll get on with it then." He waved and then left the two of you alone.

"Go easy on me?" you meekly asked.

Raven let out a laugh, "I'm supposed to help you, not make you feel better about yourself." In an instant she had you flipped over and on your back on the ground.

"Ugh." You groaned and tried to get oxygen again as the impact knocked the wind out of your lungs, "maybe you should teach me the techniques before you actually start flipping me everywhere?"

...

"Unfortunately, there aren't many books out there that talk about modern-day mutants." You explained as you followed Charles into his office, "and when I say many, I mean there's only one and it's yours. So, we're at a loss."

"You said you were really angry at me before the glass broke right?" Charles asked as he frantically took notes.

"Look at you, being a scientist." You cooed, Charles stopped his work and looked up at you, "I mean, uh, yeah." There was a pause and you threw up your arms into the air in frustration, "what? That was hours after you put me to sleep and broke your promise!" you shouted in defense.

"I think that was just a manifestation of your emotions into the room." Charles explained his thoughts, "you're feelings were amplified, and it only took a small spark, you screaming, to set it off."

"That would make sense." You nodded as you took a seat in one of the chairs, "then how come it's never happened before?"

"You've never been pushed that far before." Charles elaborated.

You nodded, then hesitated, "if you're suggesting to push my emotions to their limits, then you, my friend" you pointed to Charles, "are off your rocker."

...

"You need to focus."

You bit your lip, it's been years since you've step foot in a bar, and you weren't really eager to return.

"You said you wanted to strengthen your power," Charles prompted, "well here's how. Train yourself to not get easily swayed by the atmosphere of the room."

"Why couldn't we have done this back at your place?" you whined.

"Because it's not as hard there than here." Charles smiled, "come on." He grabbed your arm and ducked into the dirty building.

Once inside, you were hit with a wave of new emotions. Excitement, bliss, confusion. It was too much for you to take in.

"Focus." You heard Charles' voice at your side, "focus on something to ground yourself to. Don't let yourself get caught up in the wave of the atmosphere."

"Focus on what?" you asked as you clung to his side, at this rate, you were going to collapse.

"Put up a mental barrier. Keep their emotions out, and your emotions in."

"How?" you nearly wailed, you couldn't do this. Charles had to be crazy.

"What are you feeling right now?" Charles asked as he seated the two of you at the bar.

"I feel like I wanna walk out of here and never return." You grumped.

"Okay, that's not really an option at this point. Anything else?" he inquired.

"I wanna slap you for dragging me into here." You snarled.

"There." Charles' eyes brightened, "focus on that. Build a mental wall that'll allow you to isolate that emotion."

"Fine." You groaned before screwing your eyes shut to work on your mental wall. Half an hour later, you had the atmosphere of a happy drunk.

"Come on, let's go." Charles said once he noticed that you were completely saturated with the atmosphere of the bar.

"Aww, pooh. You're boring Charles." You giggled as you swung around in his grip, "live a little! Have fun!"

"Nope." Charles shook his head and dragged you out of the bar.

...

"Your skills aren't strong enough to change someone's emotions entirely. You can cause a blip in their feelings," Charles looked at you, "but you can't really do much damage."

"I just want to learn telepathy Charles." You groaned and slouched in your seat.

"You can't do that until you've mastered your own skill." Charles got into your face, "enhance your skill for all it's worth."

"Get out of my face Charles." You laughed as you tried to shove his face away from yours.

"Make me angry." He said suddenly as he sat in a stool.

"I'm sorry what?" you looked at him alarmed.

"Use your skills to make me angry," Charles elaborated, "Erik level angry."

You tried imagining Erik's level of anger in Charles, "oh no, that's terrifying." You shook your head.

"Try it, you need to enhance your skills." He pushed.

You sighed and sent your mind into Charles'. "This is dumb." You stated through closed eyes.

"You're only saying that because you're not good at it yet." Charles retorted, "keep trying."

You sighed again and turned your efforts into making Charles angry. Your mental conveyor belt of emotions was taking away Charles' calm mentality and shoving anger in its place. You screwed your eyes shut as it took more and more of your energy, and your hands clenched the loose fabric of your sweater frantically.

"I'm not feeling any angrier." Charles' voice broke the silence after a few minutes.

"I'm trying." You sighed exhaled tiredly. You shoved the angry emotions into Charles even faster than you were before, but didn't get very far before your body gave up and you slumped in your seat. Clearly asleep.

"Alright, we'll try this again later." Charles muttered to himself as he gently lifted you up from your seat and brought you back to your room.

...

You groaned in frustration and rubbed your temples. You were trying to convince Sean to punch Erik in the face by filling him up with fury against Erik. However, it wasn't working very well. Probably because you still had to master the skill of flipping someone's emotions completely around, and because you were trying to convince him from your safe spot on your bed.

"Ugh!" you shouted and fell back onto your bed, "why is it so hard? Charles and I have been practicing non-stop for the past few days, not to mention the years of practice we've tried to get in before this whole mutant division thing started." You pulled at your hair, "this is hopeless." You groaned and tears prickled in your eyes. You sighed, fell back into your bed, and let your eyes close. "Just a few moments, to let myself rest for a little bit." You told yourself.

Charles found you asleep in your room many hours later.
