I strongly dislike this book😐. It was a good idea but Im struggling to get them to the point I envisioned. Might delete it, idk.
I haven't updated in a month, that ain't like me at all. Ima try to stick it out tho.
.
.
"PLEASEE BRAID MY HAIRRR." Adonna pleaded for the 3rd time.
"Dude you know I don't like braiding hair. Plus, it's a school night and I gotta color Asia wig."
"But you good at braiding, I don't see why you dislike it so much. You could do my hair and color Asia wig."
"Braiding take mad long, then you want individuals. I woulda been more open to doing scalp braids."
"I'll pay you."
"What you need braids for?"
"I just want them, might go to a party or something. PLEASEEE."
"Okay Adonna damn, let's go get the hair." I sighed getting up.
We went to the hairstore, got the hair. I gotta started on coloring Asia's wig. I'm excited because people rarely get silver, they usually get colors like red or blonde.
(Asia is the mc of my other book, Sharp Shooter.)
I convinced Nana to part Adonna's hair for me since I don't really feel like it and that's my least favorite part.
I got a call from Chris so I answered it while I wait.
"Carla want talk to you." He sighed and I nodded. He handed her the phone and she smiled.
"Heyy Mariah!!!"
"Hey Carla!"
"Whatchuu doing?"
"About to braid Adonna's hair."
"You know how you braid."
"Yup."
"You should do my hair for my birthday!" She said getting excited.
"Okay, when's your birthday."
"In 2 weeks."
"Alright, I'll do it next week if your brother says it's okay."
She got happy and gave the phone back to Chris.
"I'm sorry. She wouldn't stop pressin me to call you tho."
"Ion mind." I shrugged.
"IM READY MARIAH." Adonna yelled walking in.
"Well I gotta go, see you later."
"See you."
I hung up the phone and spend the next two hours talking to Adonna while I braided her hair.

"I heard that your dreams came trueee." I mumbled almost done Asia's wig. Not too long after i finished then went downstairs for din din.
"How's work been going?" I asked Nana picking over my food. I'm not really hungry but I never waste food, so I'll eat it.
"Good. Some new kids joined the daycare. Today one of the kids fell and sprained their ankle. His mama threw a fit chile. Can't necessarily say I blame her because that's her child, but then again she did a lot."
"How they fell?"
"Running after we told him stop."
"That's they fault then." I shrugged.
The doorbell rung and I volunteered to go get it.
"Hi? Do I know you?" I asked the lady at the door. She looked made of money and I've never seen her before. Strange.
"Umm..do you happen to know a Mariah Lynn?" She shuffled looking uncomfortable.
"That's me....why?"
"I'm your mom."
I froze unable to form a coherent sentence.
Nana came to the front probably curious why I was taking so long, but I ignored her presence..
"I'm sorry what....come again?"
"I'm your birth mom..." she repeated.
"Say that one more time. Ion think I heard right."
She repeated it again and I closed the door in her face.
"Mariah Lynn Valentine!!" Nana scolded opening the door inviting her inside.
"Hey, what's your name. Have a seat." She hesitated and sat down.
"Christina."
I sat down completely silent. "I used to practice this moment, ain't that crazy." I randomly blurted.
In all honesty it's been a while since I thought about my birth family. I used to wonder about them all the time but i took a step back to realize what I have right infront of me. Since then my birth family kind of stayed in the back of my mind. I have a family, a good one too.
"I guess you wanna know why I gave you up right?" I just nodded waiting for her to continue. "I come from money, my parents were very strict. They had high expectations and I wanted to live up to them. When I got pregnant with you I was almost through with college, I immediately started to worry about what my parents would think. Honestly, it wasn't the best time for my career but I couldn't abort you. Me and my now husband your father decided adoption was the best way to go. I had you in secret and tried to make it a distant memory. A stain in the past. But lately ummm... every time I look at my kids I wonder about the kid I never got to know. So I started doing some digging, that led me here. I'm asking you to come move in with me."

A look of pure panic reach Nana's face. Ion know why she over there panicking.
The longer Christiana told the story the angrier I felt to be honest. I tried to imagine my birth parents as unfortunate people who couldn't afford me. I thought maybe they died. But to know they had an entire family and gave me up out of selfishness pisses me off. A baby won't stop you from getting your career, there's ways to work around it.
"No." I said keeping it short and sweet. She looked taken aback like she hadn't expected my answer.
"What do you mean no?"
I rolled my eyes.
"I mean exactly what I said, no. I don't know why you thought you could come in here, tell me that pathetic story, then ask me to move in with you. You know nothing about me, I know nothing about you. We can keep it that way, why would I leave the only family I've ever known to come stay with you? So for the third time..no."
"I do know stuff about you. You were a runaway, obviously you needed proper guidance. This lady isn't your mother." She pointed at Nana.
"You got some nerve." Nana spoke up before I could reply. "You made your decision, now you can deal with the consequences. She said she doesn't want to leave, so she won't be leaving."
"You know about me what you can read off of a piece of paper. You know public records you don't know me. You don't know my favorite color, my favorite food, my hobbies, my goals, my plans. You know information, you don't know me. Let's not get it misconstrued."
"You'll be hearing from my lawyers." She spat.
"Fudge you and them lawyers luv." I responsed.
"No manners! Who raised you?"
"NOT YOU. Can't you figure everything else out with public records? Bye shawty."
"Look I'm sorry, just please give me the chance to get to know you. Here take my number." She said handing me her business card.
"You gone leave if I take it?"
She nodded and I quickly took it. She gotta get the fuck, asap.
She left out the door and I put the card in the trash can. Keeping it felt like a spit in the face to my actual family.
Who needs birth parents anyway?
Who needs birth siblings?
As far as I'm concerned she isn't my mother, she's a women who walked in here and threatened to take me from my family. Then acted like she knew me from a piece of paper.
Her husbands a man who couldn't even bother to show up.
And their kids, well their just that. Their kids, I can't relate tho. Blood don't make you family, it make you related.
I quickly ran upstairs before nana could start one of her infamous talks.
I hopped in the shower trying to get my thoughts together. When I finished getting dressed and got in the bed nana walked in.
She put the business card on my dresser.
"I'll support whatever decisions you make. Just know that if you don't call you may never get answers. Maybe you should call and ask questions, find out more about them. I know somewhere inside you wonder about them and that's okay. I know that wasn't a great first impression but sometimes people surprised you."
She kissed my forehead and got up.
"But I already know I don't wanna leave."
"You don't have to want to leave to be curious." She answered turning out my room light. "You don't have to go to school tomorrow."
I texted Adonna and told her I'm not coming to school and to let me know if she needs a ride.
I tried going to sleep but my thoughts kept traveling back to the business card and if I want to call or not.
