《I Fell For The Muslim Girl》Chapter 85 : Guilt

Today was the day that Justin would be discharge from the hospital. I was super excited when he called me yesterday to give me the good news. I was waiting for him at the hospital early in the morning to drive him home.
Well, he said that he wanted me to take him back to his house but he didn't tell me why. He was actually pretty worried about his mother as he couldn't reach her on the phone since she left the hospital after visiting him the other day.
Justin's condition was getting better and he was no longer under any medication. Dr. Reynolds did prescribe him some pain killers but he refused and said that he didn't like taking or swallowing anymore pills that tasted like shit. It was very childish of him for not taking his medication. It's for his own good anyway.
"Are you ready to leave?" I asked, picking up his bag from the floor.
"You kidding me? I'm sick of this place." he sighed in frustration.
"I thought you might say that." I smirked and he rolled his eyes.
"What are you doing with that?" he asked all of a sudden, pointing towards his bag I was holding in my hand.
"This? I'm carrying it for you of course." I shrugged my shoulders.
"No you're not." he was fast to protest.
"Give me that." he snatched it from my hand instantly before I could say anything. He probably did that because he wanted to stop me from opening my big ass mouth.
"Suit yourself!" I gave him a deadly glare and started walking towards the door.
***************
"Are you sure about going back home?" I glanced over at him before returning my eyes back on the road, asking for confirmation.
"I think so." he answered with a frown on his face.
"I still couldn't reach her though..." he shooked his head, waving his phone in the air.
"Maybe she's busy. Who knows right?" I tried to keep it positive but didn't actually work.
"I don't think so, Camila. I know her very well."
"Okay." I said, still focusing on the road.
A few minutes later, we were interrupted by his phone ringing on his lap. He quickly grabbed it and looked at the screen to see who's calling but his face changed afterwards.

"Who is it?" I asked.
"I don't know." he shook his head, he held his phone up for me to see.
"Just answer it. Maybe it's important." I persuaded and he did. He hit the green button and lifted it close to his right ear.
"Hello?" he said through the phone and I heard a man's voice on the other line. Who could it be?
"Yes, that's right."
"Wait! What?" he exclaimed and I immediately glanced over at me. He did give me a brief look but then turned his head to the other side and I just kept my silence. I don't want to interrupt him when he is on the phone.
"Okay. Okay. I'll be right there." he said in a hurry and finally hung up.
"Oh my God! Mom! What have you done?" he sighed in frustration and burried his head in his hands while running his fingers through his hair. It seemed like something was bothering his mind.
"What? What happened? Who was on the phone?" I glanced over at him, refusing to just sit back and relax without knowing what was going on.
He let out a harsh breath before banging his head slowly against the seat. He glanced over at me with gleaming eyes and I knew he wanted to say something but...
"What's wrong?" I pulled my eyebrows together.
He turned his head to the other said, "It's my mom. She's at the station."
"Station? What do you mean station?" I was in a state of shock after hearing the word 'Station'.
"I don't know, Camila." he shook his head.
"Can you take me there?" he turned his head back to me.
"Of course, Justin. Which station?" I asked, beginning to slow down my car.
"The Taksim Police Department." he said and I started changing direction towards the station.
***************
After a 20-minute drive, we've finally arrived at the station. I looked for a place to park my car and I accompanied him to meet his mother.
The station was nothing like the steel and concrete monoliths around it. The walls are as thick as a castle and the windows were almost mean. There was no flicker of light within and the thick double glass doors were closed, armed with defensive security.

Justin opened the door for me and I walked past him into the station. We walked side by side until we reached the front counter.
The was a police officer dressed in a crisp blue uniform with his gun hanging idly at his hip, standing in his own personal gloom on the other side of the counter. He has the face of a father and must be pushing forty yet he has the build of a teenager, lithe muscle under his uniform.
"Excuse me?" Justin interrupted the officer when we reached the counter.
"Yes, sir?" he lifted his head up to look at Justin, there was a softness in his voice although he spoke of the law.
"I'm here to see my mother, Susan Walker. Can you help me? I'm her son." he said, controlling the nervousness in his voice.
"Oh, please come with me." he demanded and escorted us down the aisle to the interrogation room. I heard the soft clicks of my flat shoes hitting the marble floor as I walk through the door the officer told us.
The interrogation room was every shade of grey, from washed out concrete to almost steel-blue. Every line was straight, every corner sharp and there was no back wall to the room, only tempered glass. It was like a prison cell. A bare bulb was hanging from the ceiling and the plastic chair seemed old, could have been used for a long time.
There she was...
Justin placed one hand on the tempered glass as soon as he saw his mother on the other side. She wouldn't have known that her son was here as the one-way mirror was designed reflective on one side and transparent at the other.
There were two officers with her in that room. The first one was walking around the interrogation table while the other one was standing in the corner with his arms crossed. She was sitting with handcuffs holding her hands to the table. I assumed that the officer was interrogating her as I saw her nodding her head slowly from time to time.
"What happened?" Justin asked, with his eyes still focused on his mother. He didn't even turn his head towards the officer who escorted us here minutes ago.
"Well, she turned herself in this morning and claimed that she was guilty of attempted murder against your girlfriend."
"Twice." he added, lightened up his tone. I looked up at Justin and he finally turned his head to face the man who was standing beside him.
"A few police officers were sent to the hospital to interrogate you for some information but you refused as you said that you wanted to rest and focus on the healing process. When we were about to ask you to come down to the station after you were discharged, she was one step ahead of you and she spoke the truth about her crimes instead." he explained and Justin without further questions, nearly dropped down to his knees but was able to keep himself up when I grabbed a hold of his arm. I didn't want him to collapse for the second time. He has had enough. If I could turn back time, I wouldn't have wanted none of this to happen.
"What's gonna happen to her?" I frowned.
"It's hard to tell. We'll soon find out." he refused to give any confirmation yet and I nodded in understanding.
"I can't believe she did that." he whispered into my ear.
"I know, Justin."
"Everything's gonna be fine, okay?" I tried to soothe him and he brought me close to his chest.
"I hope so." he sighed, resting his chin on my head.
I guess there is no use for me to be wondering about why she did what she did. I knew from the very first moment she looked at me in the eye, she was telling me truth. That she was sorry about everything that happened. Is she doing this because of her guilt? What's gonna happen to her? What about Justin? How will he handle this?
