《UNDER HIS PROTECTION》- Chapter 45 -

The royal courtyard was swarming with reporters and photographers. Today was the day of the press conference.

Everyone was curious as to what this one was about. The country had just gotten out of a horrific event where the king was lost and the queen on the run so they were naturally confused as to what was next.

"Anisa, you're on in 2 minutes," a woman informed her.

She nodded and looked towards Saif. Today, Saif was doing the bodyguard duties for Anisa. Saif nodded, understanding.

Anisa slowly approached the steps to go on the podium. The clicks and flashes of the camera dramatically increased once she was within their view and people shouted all sorts of questions.

She took a deep breath before finally speaking into the microphone, all while Saif was present behind her.

"I greet everyone with respect as it's been a long while before I made an official statement regarding the country," she began, "Before my father passed away, he thought of it to its last detail and in his absence he requested for me to be the next one on the throne. But, I thought about it over and over again. Do I deserve it? More importantly, do I actually want it?"

"Having been a part of the royal administration since a young age can do things to you. You eventually look forward into your life and try to imagine if it's all worth all the trouble. There were times I'd lost myself and times I'd be proud of myself. But, in all honesty, I've desired a life where I want to explore myself," Anisa admitted

That was when Tahir walked through the curtain and onto the podium to stand beside Anisa.

The crowd was confused but they were able to get a hint of what was happening.

"I'd like for everyone to meet the reason I stand before you today. The man that has taken a bullet for me and the man whom I now call my husband."

An applause was in order and that's what they all did, they applauded her out of joy that she finally found someone to share her life and happiness with.

Tahir looked at Anisa and gave her a small smile before they both returned to look at the press.

"For those of you who found him familiar, yes, he was my bodyguard and now he's kind of my bodyguard for life," Anisa made the crowd laugh

"But, after a long process of thinking, I've come to the conclusion that I won't be a part of the throne or the royal administration. Yes, my father wanted this from me. He wanted to see me become queen of this country one day, but he would've wanted to see me happy before anything else."

With her last statement, they addressed that they were able to ask their questions.

One reporter began the series of questions with his question, "Who will be on the throne if not you?"

"That will be determined through a new process where the citizens will nominate a few of the royals and make a final decision of which the board will process. The next person on the throne is still of the same bloodline of my father so that qualification would already be fulfilled," she replied

"Will we ever see you again after this?" Another asked

"You will see me from time to time but not as often as you do now. I no longer wish to be in the public eye anymore and I hope for people to understand that as I will value more privacy from now on. After all, I do wish to start a family," Anisa turned towards Tahir who gave her a proud smile.

He watched her answer all the questions being thrown at her in such a confident way up until one question was directed towards him.

"Sir, how do you think you were able to win the princess's heart?"

After a brief moment, Tahir finally answered, "Well I wasn't even trying to but they say you're created with your soulmate and God finally allowed us to be able to meet and figure out each other's importance in our lives. But one thing I've always done is protect her from harm, potential or not. In the process, not only was I the one protecting her but she was also protecting me and made me realize my true identity and gave me a new perspective on life. I will forever be thankful for that and I'm proud to call her my wife."

(2 months later...)

It was a quiet day for Anisa. Winter had welcomed the country so nights were more colder than they would normally be. Although, the days were not as hot anymore, they weren't as cold as the nights.

Ever since stepping down from the throne, she was able to get the privacy she had hoped for. But she hadn't thought over one thing and that was how bored she felt staying home.

Currently, that was what she was done and Tahir was out, working on a new case. He wasn't going to be a field agent or an undercover one at that. But, he simply analyzed evidence and helped with the new trainees that JSS welcomed every two years and this year was one of them.

Reem would visit her from time to time but there was still no sign of Yasin. Ever since he left to look for his mother, no one was able to get a hold of him.

Layla would also visit her occasionally and right now, she was pursuing her education on architectural design.

As for the case about her mother, turns out, the woman she was fooled into thinking was her mother turned out to be false. Yasmin Abadi was not Anisa's biological mother.

Anisa was determined to find her family. She needed to thank them and she wanted to meet them. She might've lost the former king but there was still hope left for her in terms of a family.

Because of those reasons, she and Tahir decided not to have a wedding until they were both in a place to welcome their families and share the experience with them.

(That evening...)

"Sir, there's not much they were able to gather, all we know is that the man left his umbrella at the scene of the murder but it rarely ever rains here," an agent informed Tahir.

"Check the umbrella for any fingerprints or possible details . There might be engravements or records of who purchased it which can help identify who you're looking for," he told the agent.

With one nod, the agent left his office. Tahir looked at the time to see he was almost off work. Just thirty more minutes and he'd be able to go home to see Anisa.

He finally stood up from his desk and walked over to check on Mr. Latif to see he was on a phone call. Mr. Latif looked at him all while he spoke on the phone and once he hung up, he said,

"Well, well, well. If it isn't my former best agent who gave up his field career."

Mr. Latif was still bummed about that. Tahir was his best agent both on and off the field. To watch him just give that up certainly impacted him in a different way.

"Come on, you still can't be disappointed about that," Tahir chuckled

"I think I will be for the rest of my stay here since I won't be calling you to do undercover anymore," Mr. Latif sighed.

Just then, there was a call from Reem and Tahir grew confused as to why she was calling him.

"Hello?" He picked up.

"Tahir you have to come quick, Anisa suddenly fainted!" Reem panicked.

He quickly hung up and looked at Mr. Latif as he said, "I have to leave. It's an emergency."

Mr. Latif nodded and watched Tahir rush out the door and into the garage to get in his car. Once he started the engine, he sped out of the building and made his way home.

Reem could've called for an ambulance but Tahir wouldn't have allowed that when he was just a few minutes away from home. He needed to know exactly where Anisa was while he was away, all for her safety.

It didn't take long before he rushed inside the house to find the girls in the living room. Anisa was in Reem"s hands as her head rested on her lap. He knelt down to grab her and asked Reem,

"How long has she been out?"

"It's been fifteen minutes now. I called you as soon as I could," she replied

With that, the three of them made their way back to the car. He gently placed Anisa on the backseats of the car while Reem took the passenger seat. When he walked over and sat behind the wheel, he drove and rushed to the hospital to get her to Dr. Maryam in time.

As soon as they arrived, the doctors prepared a portable bed and rushed her to a room. Tahir helped them push the bed and knew he needed to stay behind the door as soon as they placed her in a room.

Dr. Maryam appeared seconds later and looked at Tahir and Reem as she asked,

"What happened?"

"She suddenly felt weak and fainted while walking and luckily I was able to get to her in time before she fell to the floor," Reem explained

"Ok. I'll do a couple tests and expedite the process so you guys can leave in the next hour," Dr. Maryam informed them

Tahir nodded and watched her go into the room, closing the door behind her. Reem took a seat on the one of chairs and Tahir turned to ask her,

"What was she doing before she fainted?"

"Nothing. She was getting herself a fruit and suddenly fell unconscious." Reem said.

"Do you think what she ate was poisoned?" Tahir asked

Reem shook her head, "That's impossible. She hadn't even taken a bite of it."

Tahir was, of course, worried but he hated to admit that he was somewhat immune to this scene. He can't remember the number of times he had to rush Anisa to the hospital and the only thing he was able to do now is hope that there's nothing concerning about her health.

After a while, just as he grew impatient, Dr. Maryam appeared through the hallway with papers in her hand as she told Tahir,

"I want you to come with me,"

He stood up and followed her inside the room Anisa was in. Reem stayed behind.

Once he went in, he saw Anisa had already woken up, drinking water through a straw almost as though nothing happened to her.

"How are you?" He asked, intertwining his hands with hers.

"I'm good. I feel better," she gave him a small smile and they both turned to look at Dr. Maryam for answers.

"Well ," she began, "I'm not entirely sure how to break this to you both and I apologize if I'm ruining anything you potentially, might've wanted to do in terms of the way you guys found out, but..."

She paused making them both impatient as she looked at the paper in her hands one more time.

"Anisa, you're pregnant!"

Anisa froze upon hearing the last word and almost choked on her water. Tahir instantly turned to look at her belly and everything made more sense.

"Are you positive, doctor?" Anisa asked in disbelief.

"Yeah, your tests came out positive with Hcg which is the hormone that increases and multiplies in a woman's system when she is pregnant!" Dr. Maryam smiled.

Anisa was still shocked since she wasn't expecting a child. But, she knew that she was overly joyed to hear it.

"I can say with certainty that you can go home right now since you're going through the symptoms I expect in a pregnant woman but I do need you to be on some vitamins that I'll prescribe for you."

They both thanked her as she left the room and Tahir turned to look at Anisa and slowly went in to kiss her forehead.

"That explains the late trips to the store," he chuckled

"Yeah, it's crazy. I'm pregnant Tahir," Anisa had to say it again in order to fully believe it.

"From now on, I'll take less hours at work and spend more time with you," Tahir promised

Anisa smiled. Then she grew curious and asked, "How do you feel about this?"

"Of course I'm happy. I'd carry you up and spin you around but I'm more worried about the baby. We're going to be parents and that's the biggest blessing for me," he replied.

Anisa smiled and stood up to give him a warm hug. They both hadn't expected it and yet a beautiful thing was growing inside her.

They didn't know what the future was going to hold but what they did know what that they were going to spend every day with meaning.

Many mysteries lay ahead of them. Before Anisa became a mother herself, she was now more than determined to find her own mother.

Tahir was going to have another responsibility but he felt that if he was able to take care of Anisa, then his own child shouldn't be any different.

"It's crazy. We got married, basically, in the hospital and now we find out we're going to grow in the hospital," Anisa mentioned

"That's right. You just love visiting the hospital Anisa. God forbid I ever have to come here again unless it's for my child's birth," Tahir said

Anisa laughed and looked down at her belly. She somewhat already felt a connection to the little being growing inside here and placed her hand on her belly as she said,

"I can't wait to meet you..."

A/N:

Hi everyone. This update took me a while because I thought long and hard. I had to make a hard decision about ending this story this way when there were so many things that still needed to be unfolded.

But, Anisa and Tahir made it far into their journey and now they are set to welcome another being into the world😊 I thought there was no other better way of ending this by them being given such a blessing because I can relate to what it feels like to find out you're pregnant. It's a beautiful feeling, truly. You instantly love what you have without knowing what it is or who it is without having to see it.

I apologize if I upset some of you with a sudden ending but I did warn you guys this story was coming to an end a couple chapters ago😅

I'm not currently thinking of a sequel but that all depends on my readers and what they want!

Thank you so much for giving your time with this story and for making it so far. I enjoyed every minute of writing it and I enjoyed interacting with some of you in the comments section.
