《UNDER HIS PROTECTION》- Chapter 11 -

Tahir was taken back by her words. It was as if he was slapped back to reality and he watched her eyes glisten as she said that with honesty.

But, a part of him felt sudden guilt. He wasn't entirely fond of her trusting him.

"Anisa," he began, "There's so much you don't know about me."

It was her first time hearing him say her name in such a way, she too, was taken back.

"I'm fine with that. I can learn more along the way," she replied

She began to walk again, leaving Tahir to stand from the sudden shock. Her words somehow had a big impact yet he wasn't able to accept them because deep inside, he knew who he was and that she'd be faced with disappointment later on.

As it started getting dark and the sun was setting, the two made it back inside the house.

Rather than having dinner, Anisa felt like eating fruits and having herbal tea to help with sleep. She didn't feel anything close to tired and the doctor recommended herbs to help with that.

As she prepared them and placed it on the dinner table in the dining room, she waited for Tahir. He had gone to the washroom and it only took a minute of waiting for Anisa to see him in the dining room.

"Come, sit," she told him.

He did just that and took a seat beside her, looking at the big display of fruits that had been cut into a decoration. Her skills in culinary amused him because he didn't expect that Anisa had ever made her food, especially since she was a royal who had others to do it for her.

"The night of the auction, I had a plan," she started

"What plan?" Tahir asked as he ate a kiwi.

"The day Mr. Amin died from the incident, the car had a dashcam that recorded those who planted the bomb in the castle," she explained.

Tahir stood up from his chair and immediately asked, "Where? Who is it? Why would you sell the evidence off?"

"Sit down," Anisa motioned, "I took the USB out of the dashcam so the evidence is with me."

"So who was it that planted the bomb?" Tahir asked

Then Anisa realized that he didn't ask why she was investigating Mr. Amin's death.

"Wait, why do you seem as though this is normal for me to do? Almost like you knew I was investigating his death..." She questioned.

Tahir didn't know what to say. But, he somehow made it seem as though it was all a coincidence.

"I naturally thought that you weren't the type to leave someone's death unknown, especially when you didn't know the reason," he explained, "It's easy to fool the public and tell them someone died of an explosion, but since you were close to him, it's natural that you didn't leave it at that."

Anisa was convinced and thought that he was a very observant person. Someone who was able to analyze a situation and put thought into it.

"You're right," she nodded, "I couldn't leave it at that. But you know what was harder to accept after his death?" She asked

Tahir tilted his head up and brought it down, motioning her to continue.

"The fact that Mr. Amin knew something like this would happen to him and didn't tell me as he was alive"

Tahir stood up from his leaning position on the chair, "How?"

"His deed, the documents he provided me, all of which were clues that led to the possible culprit were prepared," Anisa had already formed tears in her eyes from the shocking reality

"Anisa," Tahir said, "I want you to explain everything from the beginning. I can't protect you unless I know what you're up against. A job like this isn't a single person job."

Anisa wiped her tears before she began explaining the story from the beginning of how it all began.

"No, you were specifically told to write a report and yet you couldn't handle that!" Yasin yelled at Layla who ignored him as she sat on the chair behind her desk.

"At this point, you're going to make me go deaf!" She exaggerated.

"I did this for you! I proposed during dinner so that you could finally find a passion to serve your country as a stance of a princess! Yet, here you are, unable to do your duties!" Yasin slammed the desk, frustrated.

It wasn't entirely because she couldn't write something so simple as a report, but she wasn't even taking the situation seriously at all. Also, the board of directors was starting to doubt her as well.

Just then, they both heard the door handle and turned their heads to watch the door open and reveal Anisa.

Layla straightened herself and cleared her throat, moving her hair to the side of her face as Yasin sighed and rubbed his forehead.

Anisa's steps were loud and prominent from her heels, indicating her frustration. But, she was the type to stay calm even while angered.

"It's no surprise that she's disobedient, but disobeying the association's orders is disobeying the country," she said as she casually took a seat on the sofa across from the desk. Yasin did the same and sat beside her.

"The last time I checked, you had no authority over the things I did," Layla responded.

"You see, at times like this, it's my title that certainly has authority over you. You're currently working under an office I assigned and a secretary I prepared, as well as a job that doesn't fit you," she stated.

"Say whatever you want, it's only my second day here and you can't judge me for my learning process," Layla looked away from her.

Yasin scoffed, "And yet you're still not taking it seriously."

"May I remind you that this was all your idea, Yasin," Anisa pointed out.

Then she turned back towards Layla and told her, "Fine, I won't judge you from what you call, your learning process, but, I'm only able to accept two mistakes on your end. Make one more, you've lost this position."

With that, she stood up and walked towards the door to leave. Yasin gave Layla one last glare before he followed Anisa.

As soon as Anisa walked out the door, Tahir was waiting for her outside, leaning against the wall. He got back on both his feet and was about to tell her something before Yasin appeared behind her.

"I know you're upset that this whole thing was my proposal, but, I just wanted her to do something. Maybe possibly find what she wants to do," Yasin explained.

"I know you didn't mean any harm. You had good intentions. Plus, it's not like we didn't expect this from her. It's only a matter of time before she makes another mistake," Anisa shrugged.

Yasin rolled his eyes and placed his arm around Anisa's shoulders.

"Enough about that headache, what was up with you? You didn't even come to the palace yesterday," Yasin said.

"I told you, I wanted to take a break. The palace doesn't let me do that. It's not someplace I'm comfortable," she replied.

"You're sure nothing is going on, right?" Yasin asked once more only so that he could get assurance from her.

Anisa nodded, "I'm fine."

"Well then have you eaten? Let me take you out for lunch," he removed his arms around her shoulder and held both her hands, almost as if he was begging.

"A promise is a promise," Anisa shrugged and put a smile on Yasin's face.

Upon leaving the office, Yasin decided to take Anisa in his car and Tahir looked at her for approval as she said, "It's fine, Yasin's the last person to hurt me."

Yasin rolled his eyes at her and Tahir turned to get the car he initially drove Anisa with.

"Yasin, how are things at the castle? Did anyone say anything or do anything while I was gone?" she asked Yasin as he drove into the main road.

"Baba asked where you were and your secretary told us you decided to stay at the beach house. Mama didn't even bother. But, Layla had her first day yesterday and it was a complete mess," he explained.

Anisa sighed. The family that she wished to have was a luxury for her and it wasn't like she could achieve it with a numerical price. It was much more difficult than that.

"Do you remember how Humeyra gave me those sleeping pills her doctor recommended for me?"

Yasin nodded in response, "Yeah, why?"

"Since you deal with the science and pharmaceutical industry, can I have you find the contents of those pills?" She asked.

Yasin turned to look at her for a brief moment with a question expression.

"Why? What's wrong? Are you saying my mother tried doing something to you?"

In a way, Yasin was offended because there's no way Humeyra, his mother, would do such an act. It wasn't like her. So, why was Anisa questioning the pills that she gave her?

"I don't know yet. I just want to be sure," she said, "And please keep this confidential. I'm only asking you because I trust you. Don't even mention I told you to do so."

Yasin sighed, annoyed because he didn't know how to think of this situation. But, on the other hand, there was never a time that Anisa disappointed him. Nor, was there a time she ever refused his favors.

"Fine, I'll find out for you," Yasin held out his hand for her to give the bottle of pills and he placed it in the storage of the car.

"Thank you. I knew I could trust you," she genuinely smiled and Yasin calmed down after seeing her do so. Somehow, her smile was able to brighten his day and as long as she was doing so, there's nothing more that he could ask of her.

"Saif, I told you the red one!" Layla yelled from her desk

Saif sighed in frustration. If the purse she asked for wasn't red, he didn't know what was anymore.

"How can women choose between 50 shades of red on purses but not red flags on a man..." he muttered under his breath

"What was that?" Layla asked.

"Is it this one?" he held up the third purse and Layla nodded, "Yes, are you color blind or something?"

He walked over to hand it to her and only received a cold expression in return. If anything, he though Tahir's job was much easier than his, especially since he doesn't deal with tasks that require a secretary, not a bodyguard.

"Ok, so now all we have to do is wait for someone and then I can have that damn report that everyone's making a big deal about," she crossed her legs.

"Who?" Saif asked, furrowing his brows.

"Oh, it's just my own secretary I recently hired."

"What happened to Ahmed?" He asked

Layla looked up at him with a glare, "Do you always ask questions!"

Saif cleared his throat and looked away from her. Just then, there was a knock on the door, followed by a woman in formal attire. She seemed older than Layla and more experienced based on what she wore.

"Mona! I'm glad you're here!"

Layla jumped up from her seat and embraced Mona in a hug of which she gladly returned. Saif, on the other hand, still wanted to know who this was.

Once they pulled apart, Layla looked back to where Saif stood and told him, "You can go out. Make sure no one comes in too."

Saif walked out the door, filled with glee that he no longer needed to watch Layla. At least, for now.

He took out his phone and looked through his notifications to see that he had messages from Mr. Latif, Tahir, and...

He had to blink a couple of times before seeing that Nadia had also texted him:

I'll be seeing you this evening. This time, I won't be undercover
