《UNDER HIS PROTECTION》- Chapter 10 -

"Be careful!"

Anisa almost ended up hitting her foot on the edge of a wall which prompted Tahir to push her towards his side from her waist.

Anisa was taken back by the sudden move and felt a weird feeling in her stomach. She wasn't able to put a description on it.

They had gotten back after a long night at the hospital and the sun had risen, indicating the start of a new day.

Anisa had one arm around Tahir's neck for support and he even held her waist to prevent her from bumping into anything.

She was able to walk, but she lost balance easily.

"The doctor said you need more rest. I cleared your schedule for today so nothing like that exists for now. Not until you've healed."

"I should be the one to give you those orders. Who says you can do that without my permission?" Anisa asked

"I, the head of security, as well as the one responsible for your body," Tahir stated.

It made Anisa's breath hitch from the sudden comeback he used to attack her. Even without a gun or a physical move, he had a way of killing you with his words.

"You're speaking nonsense," she rolled her eyes, trying not to think of his last few words but they kept replaying in her mind like a broken record:

"The one responsible for your body"

As she finally reached her bed, Tahir made sure he gently placed her before grabbing her a glass of water.

"Drink this," he handed it to her.

After Tahir felt her grab the cup, he got his phone to pick up the call he was receiving from Saif.

"Did you handle the job?" Tahir asked upon picking up.

"Yeah, her secretary asked the reason as to why she cleared a whole day's worth of events but I told her she was drained of energy," Saif explained

"You did good,"

"Thanks, I'll see you soon?" Saif asked

"Yeah, soon."

With that, he lowered the phone from his ear and hung up to see that Anisa had gotten comfortable in her bed. So, he took a seat on the sofa that was just across from her bed and folded his arms over his chest, watching her.

"Excuse me, I don't think I signed up for this," Anisa said, "how am I supposed to sleep while you're in here?"

"I told you, I heightened your supervision meaning I'll be here until you go to Dreamland," he replied

Anisa scoffed, "Am I a child now?'

"You're talking too much for someone who just passed out from an overdose," he told her.

Anisa was speechless. Tahir had always crossed the line with her in terms of authority and no one had ever done that. But her principles stopped her from telling him the common statement, "know your place."

She was never the type to differentiate herself from her and the people around her. She was taught that no matter the roles that people have obtained in life, they're all human at the end of the day.

Tahir watched her lay down as she thought to herself and pulled out his phone to serve as a distraction. He didn't want to watch her sleep but this was the only way to ensure her health and safety for the time being.

He'd keep stealing glances now and then to check and see if she had fallen asleep and this time when he looked up from his phone, he saw that her eyes were shut asleep.

Somehow, she seemed peaceful and calm. Innocence was written all over her expression as he made sure she was tucked in.

After one last glance, he left the room and walked downstairs. For the moment, he had nothing to do. This "rest day" he created for Anisa, also served as rest for him, from all the chaos that's been happening since his arrival.

Tahir decided to lay down on the sofa and without realization, he too had fallen asleep.

Meanwhile, Saif was having a busier day than usual. Today was Layla's first-day managing trade business within the administration and he was driving to the office that was temporarily assigned for her.

Layla was on a call with someone and due to the limited space and walls a car could offer, he had no other choice but to eavesdrop.

"I called him and he came."

"Yeah, if you see him, you'll think he's a cologne model for one of the designer brands."

Saif rolled his eyes and continued to drive as Layla continued to talk about the "cologne model."

"No, I even put on makeup and showed off my curves for him but he left the room and figured out that someone didn't break into it."

"No, his name's not Tamir, it's Tahir, habibti."

Saif suddenly pressed the brakes a little too sudden, bringing the car to a halt on the road and even managed to drop Layla's phone.

"Drive properly won't you!" She scolded him as he was in disbelief of what he heard.

But, he continued to drive and decided to mute Layla from his life for the time he tried to process everything.

They finally reached the office and Saif rushed to open the door for her. She gave him a serious eye roll as he held a poker face despite feeling disgusted from the "cologne model" story.

As they walked into the office, they were greeted and bowed to, by the front desk and someone approached them.

"Hello your highness, my name is Ahmed, I'll be your secretary and assist you in your tasks today."

Layla nodded as she typed something on her phone and they continued to walk towards the elevator.

Upon reaching the fifth floor, they got out with Ahmed leading the way. He stopped right in front of a door that had Layla's name already engraved to a gold plaque and he let her enter before anyone else did.

Layla looked around to see that the office was not bad. It suited her taste in terms of design.

"Royal protocol for the association states that a royal must vow to work with honesty and integrity to bring the greater good for the country no matter the task you're given. The choices you make in this room today will impact everyone in this country. Do you accept that vow, your highness?"

"Why yes, of course," she replied.

Tahir grunted as he got up from the uncomfortable position he fell asleep in. His neck was sore and his arms instinctively reached for his neck to rub it.

Then, he smelled something, awakening his senses. It was food, so it must be coming from the kitchen.

He stood up and walked directly towards the kitchen but to his surprise, it wasn't a chef that was doing the cooking. It was Anisa.

"I thought I told you to rest," Tahir said as he approached the island.

"I'm not going to starve myself in the process," she snapped back.

"Do you always have a habit of talking back to people or is it just towards me?" Tahir asked

Anisa rolled her eyes and continued to stir the food that was in the pot.

"I see, that pretty much answers my question," Tahir said.

He watched Anisa cook as he sat in front of the island. She seemed as though she completely blocked off everything and chose to focus on food so she didn't even notice him pick up a call from the other security guards.

As he hung up, Anisa turned around with two plates in her hand and was surprised to see her put one in front of him.

"Eat up. I can't guarantee you won't die is poisoning," she said.

Tahir scoffed and picked up the fork to take a piece of the food and put it in his mouth. He slowly ate, savoring the flavor, surprised to find out that it wasn't as bad as he expected.

Anisa watched him and discreetly took a glance to see he was fond of it but he tried to conceal his expression so she decided not to speak anything of it.

Then, suddenly, her phone rang and after seeing it was Yasin, she sighed and answered, "Hello."

"Anisa, I haven't seen you in days, what have you been doing?"

Yasin sounded worried and she looked up at Tahir to see that he was occupied with his phone.

"I've just been busy," she replied

"Where are you, I'm going to come to you."

Anisa didn't know whether she should tell him. She did trust him and told him certain things that others didn't know, but she didn't want him to worry.

"Yasin, I've decided to take a break for the day. I promise I'll see you first thing tomorrow."

She heard him sigh from the other line.

"Fine, since you promised," he said.

She placed her phone down after hanging up and continued to finish her food.

They both ate in silence as they finished up their food. Despite not saying anything to each other, it was a silence in which comfort was felt between the two, so, words weren't necessary.

Once Tahir finished up the last forkful of his food, he stood up from the stool and offered to clean up.

"Give me your plate," he ordered Anisa.

She looked up from the sudden command and gave her plate, awkwardly, almost as if she just saw an alien who decided not to abduct her.

"I don't know if I should thank you or be worried," she said as she got up from her stool.

Tahir scoffed and continued to wash the dishes as he replied, "Is it shocking that a man offered to clean up?"

"Yes, in fact, I've never seen one," she told him

"Now you're not qualified to say that," he finished up the dishes and wiped his hands with a towel.

Anisa left the kitchen and said, "I'll be taking a walk on the beach."

Instinctively, Tahir followed and watched her take her shoes off, feeling the warmth of the sand. She tilted her head up, engulfing the fresh air that welcomed her and he couldn't take his eyes off her.

They walked closer to the water and the wind made the ocean scent present. Anisa's dress flowed like water in the wind and Tahir kept his gaze on the water, watching the waves.

Anisa turned to look at him and his seriousness. There wasn't a moment he wasn't. At least, around her.

"This beach house was going to be gifted for Mr. Amin for his upcoming birthday, but, unfortunately, things turned out this way," she told him, "he loved the sea and enjoyed the yacht rides from time to time."

"I bet he did," Tahir responded.

"I know you're still mad at what I did. But, would you believe me if I told you that I didn't even realize I was addicted?" She asked, changing the subject.

Tahir turned to face her with an expression that was taken back.

"It was prescribed to me after his death. Baba said that Humeyra visited a doctor for me and brought them. Little did I know I would depend on them to the point I'd pass out," she scoffed

"I just hope you know that unless your doctor prescribes something, you're not to take it," he said.

She looked down at the sand and told him, "There's something I was supposed to tell you that night."

She stopped walking and faced Tahir. They stood just inches apart and didn't even realize how close they were.

"What?" Tahir asked looking directly at her eyes.

Anisa couldn't control the feeling that appeared in her stomach again. It felt as though creatures were flying and present as her breath hitched from their proximity.

"I...I was going to tell you..." She trailed off, trying to read the expression in his eyes. She wanted to confirm something for the last time before she finally said,

"I trust you."
