Here is a tiny sneak preview of Chapter 1 of Book TWO...

The carriage rumbled over the roads, jerking with every stone and hollow as if it were being punched from the ground below. Some of the children had groaned and complained at first, but eventually, they had stopped. Others made a point by not making a single sound.

Sofia's body had become numb. She didn't hurt all over anymore, but she now felt as if she didn't entirely belong to herself any longer. Her hands were tied in front of her. She had tried to make her wrists soft and malleable, to just slip the bondage off. To her surprise, it had not worked, even though it was a simple enough trick, much less complicated than others she had come to master.

It was her head, she realized. There was something in it or around it that made it impossible to focus her senses...
