《Chasing the Colemans (ON HOLD)》Chapter 19

Third person POV:
Kara and Hannah were busy finalising the banner for the little league match later that day while Brooke was in her room, prepping herself for the first match of the season. As Kara had just finished painting her daughter's number, 12, on the banner, Brooke called her.
Kara went up to Brooke's room only to gasp at the state of her room. It was an utter mess. Her bed was not made, her sheets falling off the bed, her clothes scattered on the ground.
"Brooklyn Coleman," she said sternly, "didn't I tell you to clean your room yesterday?"
"Yes mummy, but-" she pouted.
"No buts young lady. Your room better be sparkling clean before we leave for the match." Brooke hung her head low, in a defeated stance.
Seeing her daughter in such a mess, she patted the spot on her bed, getting her to sit down. Kara grabbed the comb from her dresser, combing through the knots in her hair.
"I know you're nervous for today little one," Kara whispered, "remember, breathe in and out slowly and zone in on the moment."
Brooke nodded her head as Kara continued to tie up her hair in a double french braid, making sure that it was secure enough. After she was done, Hannah came into the room with some healthy snacks.
"Holy moley," Hannah gasped in disbelief, "it looks like a volcano erupted in here."
Brooke and I giggled as the three of us sat on the floor, snacking on some food and helping Brooke clean up her room a little bit.
"Little one, you better start getting dressed. We have to leave in 30 minutes."
Brooke went into her bathroom to change into her jersey and sports gear before packing up her gym bag and heading down the stairs. Kara and Hannah were busy in the kitchen, getting ready some recovery food for the team after the match as well as some refreshments. Soccer mum duties as per usual.
"Mummy, is Alessy coming today?" Brooke asked, holding her hands together in hope.
"He should be coming little one." Kara replied as her daughter screamed "YES" in happiness.
Kara smiled at her little girl who was jumping in happiness, dancing around the living room. As she continued to slice up the fruits in front of her, she couldn't help but continue to grin as the image of their heated moment from the other day came to mind.
"Thinking about your prince charming aren't you?" Hannah smirked as Kara looked up, shaking herself from her thoughts.
"N-no," she denied, yet the blush on her cheeks gave everything away.
"Yea yea whatever you say chica."
Kara shoved Hannah in a teasing manner as they laughed together, getting back to packing up the food and drinks, placing them in cooler bags.
"Brooke, are you ready?" Hannah asked as Kara was loading up the car with all the necessities.
"Coming," Brooke bounced down the stairs as Hannah ruffled up her head.
"You're going to do great squirt," Hannah assured as they locked up the house and got into the car.
-------
Once we reached the field, Brooke dashed off to her teammates, joining their chatter. Ever since the first training, the girls who stayed after and congratulated Brooke on her skills became the group of friends she constantly hung out with. Kara was so elated to see her daughter making friends and fitting into society even though most of the girls were a couple years older than her.

Her daughter - a social butterfly. Who would have thought?
Kara and Hannah watched from afar while lugging out the coolers they had filled with refreshments and recovery food. They picked a spot under a tree for shade, having the perfect view of the match as well as being close enough to the team just in case.
"So how it going at work? I feel like I never see you at home anymore," Kara said as she laid out the mat on the ground, pulling out the folding chairs as well.
"Not too bad actually. Just got a bad rotation this month," she explained, shrugging her shoulders, "unfortunately."
"What did you do? Did you argue with any of your superiors?" Kara asked with a knowing look, placing her hand on her hips . Hannah was known to cause trouble, not knowing when and where to keep her mouth shut. But that's just her nature.
"I didn't do anything I swear," She rebutted, putting her hands in surrender.
Kara raised my eyebrows.
"I swear."
"Okay then," she caved, "have you had any other incidents with Mr Valentino?"
She choked on her saliva, getting into a coughing fit. Kara laughed at her reaction as she patted her back.
"So something must have happened," Kara smirked, leaning in to hear the juicy gossip.
Once Hannah recovered from her choking incident, she shoved me away, pointing her index finger at me, "you're not so innocent either chica."
"A little birdie told me about your not so secret kiss with a certain someone someone." Hannah winked as Kara's eyes went wide and blush rose to her cheeks.
How did she find out, she thought. Kara didn't dare utter a word of that incident. She was way too embarrassed to even tell Hannah. She had never made such an unprofessional action in her place of work ever. There was no chance in hell that she would let word of this get to her father or godfather. She would be dead for sure and Alessandro would be six feet under as well.
"H-ho-how did y-you kn-ow?"
"Let's just say I have my eyes on you." Hannah squinted, pointing her two eyes to Karas, teasing her.
Before Kara could continue to interrogate Hannah on her sources, Brooke came running to their location.
"Mummy, could you tighten my laces for me please?"
"Sure little one, come here." She said, patting the chair next to her as she kneeled down.
Kara had always emphasised to Brooke the importance of ensuring her laces were always fastened tightly. A lot of injuries can occur due to that mistake; twisted ankles, overstretched ligaments, trips and falls. All these unnecessary instants can be very crucial in a game and could change the outcome of a match which is something no one wants.
Once Kara finished tying her laces, she kissed Brooke on his head, wishing her luck as she dashed back off with the rest of her team to get the final briefing from Coach Vaughn. The spot they had picked seemed to be perfect for viewing as the other families of the players gathered around in the same area too.
"Oh great, the bitchy mums are back again," Kara muttered under her breath, saying it soft enough just for Hannah to hear.
Hannah turned her head back to the group of gossiping mums as they held their heads high, smirking in our direction. Hannah fumed as she abruptly stood up, ready to pick the fight she had held back for so long. However, Kara yanked her arm back down, grabbing her chin, turning Hannah's line of vision away from the mums and towards Brooke who was warming up on the field.

"Behave," She scolded, "we are here to support Brooke."
Hannah shook her head out of Kara's grasp and let out a frustrated sigh, "fine."
"That's a good girl," Kara smiled in relief, petting her head like a good little puppy, making Hannah glare at her in return.
The players had just entered the field, waiting for the referee to start the match as Kara and Hannah gave Brooke the thumbs up from their position, supporting her from the background. Brooke smiled at them, grinning from ear to ear as she looked around for Alessandro. To her dismay, she couldn't spot him in the crowd. Her face drooped slightly with disappointment as she mouthed to 'Where's Alessy?'.
Kara knew exactly what Brooke was asking but had no answer for her. She had no choice but to shrug her shoulders for the moment and mentally pray that he would keep his promise and show up.
Ringgg Ringgg
Caller ID: Alessandro
Please don't tell me he can't make it, she thought. It would crush Brooke.
"Hello?" She said nervously as she answered his call.
"Hello Kara, where are you? I've just reached the field." She heaved out a sigh of relief on the other end.
"We're near the team's station on the right, sitting under a big tree," She replied as she stood up, hoping to spot him in the distance.
"Okay, I'll find you."
Kara continued to look around for Alessandro as she finally spotted him, waving her hands frantically to get his attention. Their eyes met as he walked briskly to their location. As he walked past the field to get to Kara, he saw Brooke in the position of the midfielder. He smiled warmly at her as she finally spotted him, jumping up and down, waving ecstatically at him.
Brooke's nervous and anxiety mellowed down a little as she followed her mother's advice, taking deep breaths in and out, narrowing her vision on her objective, focusing on the moment.
Game time, she thought as the whistle was blown.
---------
After the gruesome and thrilling match, the game was finally over with the score of 5-4, to Brooke's team. Brooke had contributed three out of the five goals, making her man of the match and Kara couldn't be any more proud. She yelled her lungs out, cheering loudly for the team and her daughter, giving them her full support during the match.
Hannah did loud 'whoppings' in the air whenever Brooke scored a goal, shouting out 'that's my girl', waving her hands frantically in the air, doing a victory dance herself as if she was in Brooke's shoes. Alessandro was mainly passive throughout the match with the occasional look of shock and widened eyes at the extent of Brooke's skills.
Once the match was finally over, everyone cheered loudly for the players as the teams playing shook each other's hands.
"Didn't expect that did you?" Kara nudged Alessandro's side teasingly as Brooke ran up to them.
Kara embraced Brooke in a big hug, kissing her all over the face as Brooke grimaced, trying to get away from her tight hold.
"Mummy," she whined.
"I'm," kiss.
"So," kiss.
"Proud," kiss.
"Of," kiss.
"You," kiss.
"Thanks mummy," Brooke wiped her face with her sleeve as Kara finally released her. Before Hannah could begin her undying similar assault on Brooke, she ducked under her arm.
"Aunt Han Han," she whined, "not you too."
Hannah pouted, giving her an offended look. After a one minute stare off, Hannah finally caved.
"Alright kiddo," she said, ruffling Brooke already messy hair, "good job munchkin. We'll finish this later."
Hannah placed a kiss on Brooke's head before heading back to the car first to bring the car around to pick them up.
When Brooke saw Alessandro, she ran up to him, jumping into his awaiting arms. He held her close to his body even though Brooke's sweat was dripping onto his suit.
"You did so well piccolo," he said proudly, giving her a kiss on her cheek as she beamed up at him.
"Thanks Alessy."
Alessandro let Brooke back down as she ran back to her circle of friends, celebrating with them on their first success of the season. The girls jumped onto one another, causing them to crash into a big heap on the ground as they giggled in delight. While waiting for Brooke to get changed, Alessandro and Kara packed up all the stuff they had brought. However, their closeness had been noticed by a certain group of mums from the team.
"I bet she had her out of wedlock. What a disgrace."
"She couldn't even get the father to stay and here she is hoeing around already."
"He can't be the father. He looks nothing like her."
Alessandro could hear all the nasty comments clearly as he fisted his hand, making it turn white as a ghost. Kara knew what was being said but chose to ignore it, not wanting to cause a scene especially because Brooke was not too far away. Kara continued to pack the bags, taking them to the car where Hannah was waiting.
Once Kara was out of sight, Alessandro buttoned up his suit jacket, taking slow big strides to the group of women who were still gossiping amongst themselves.
"Ladies," he greeted as the chitter chatter ceased as they turned around to face him.
Most of them gawked at him in awe, their eyes widening as they tucked their hair behind their ears, blushing.
"Hello, I'm Vanessa, Katie's mum," the head of the group said, "and who might you be?"
"Ladies, we're all mature adults aren't we?" He joked along with them.
They eagerly agreed with him, nodding their heads replying "yes", "yes of course".
"Yet you seem to speak like high school teenagers." He continued, chuckling, making them gasp in surprise.
"Please refrain from all this unnecessary gossip, especially about my fiancée. Thank you." He said in all seriousness, giving them a narrow look before turning back around and stalking off.
"Who do you think you are?" Vanessa bellowed, "How dare you."
With his back turned towards them, he replied simply, "Alessandro De Luca", continuing to walk in the direction of Kara.
Silence filled the air. No one moved a muscle. Everyone in the right mind knew who he is. Just saying his name was deafening enough. He was the king of the business world after all. His word alone could render a homeless man a billionaire, a bankrupt company flourishing with business. No one messed with him and there was a reason for that.
"Fiancée?" Vanessa whispered to her group as all their faces paled, their cheeks sunk in.
Alessandro went back to Kara, grabbing the leftover bags she was carrying in her hand, holding them in his one hand. With his free hand, he laced his fingers in hers, gripping her hand tightly as he kissed the back of her hand, making Kara blush and smile at him.
"Let's go tesoro." He said as they walked hand in hand to the car where Hannah and Brooke were waiting.
"Oh fuck." Vanessa whispered as the group eyed the happy couple in front of them, her hand slapping over her mouth in shock.
