《Chasing the Colemans (ON HOLD)》Chapter 14

Kara's POV:

I looked out the window, staring at the white fluffy clouds as they hovered over the earth, acting as a shield from the rest of the galaxy. Being so high up in the sky, really makes a person reconsider their life decisions. Up in the abyss, no one has any control of their life, not even the pilots themselves. Anything could go wrong and we wouldn't be able to do anything about it, except pray. At this time, we would be closest to God anyways, right at the edge of the gates of heaven.

"Penny for your thoughts?" Dante asked causally as he looked up from the contract he was preparing.

"mhmm," I said, my eyes still hooked on the view. Wait a minute, speaking of contracts.

I whipped my head back to him, "You were the one who screwed me over with the contract isn't it?"

"Guilty," he admitted, smirking at me.

I gave him a deathly glare, tracing my finger over my neck, indicating my intent. He placed his hands in mock surrender, laughing at my attempt.

Dante was most definitely the joker of the pair, he kept Alessandro from being too consumed by work and I could tell how much he meant to Alessandro. They were brothers, through and through. His personality was extremely similar to Hannah's, making the urge to meddle in their love lives even attractive. She needed someone in her life. All the men she ever went out went were never close to being good enough, they were either douchebags or jerks. Her relationships never really lasted for more than a month.

As Dante got back to work, his facial expression completely changed as he dawned on his glasses, focusing on the contract once again. I had yet to see Dante Valentino in his professional mode, but it was a sight to see alright. He looked stern, focused and seemed to know exactly what he was doing as his hands moved as fast as the wind, typing up a storm. I think he would be good for her.

"Alessandro's getting jealous," Dante said, not looking up as I blushed, slightly embarrassed by my bold gaze at him.

I looked to my right and he was right. Alessandro was staring right back at me, those dark orbs piercing right into my eyes. He gestured for me to come towards him with his finger, his other hand still holding onto Brooke as she slept soundly on him.

I gave into his request as I sat next to him, stroking my daughter's hair gently.

"When we get to Singapore, Dante and I have a meeting right away so you and Brooke will be sent to the hotel first and we'll meet up with you later." He stated in a hushed tone.

I nodded my head.

"Don't worry about us. I know my way around anyways."

He raised his eyebrows in surprise, urging me to explain.

"I lived in Singapore till I was about twelve years old," I said, "My parents were working there."

He nodded his head in understanding, going back to working on his laptop.

All my childhood memories were mostly spent in Singapore. Nursery, kindergarten, primary school, secondary school. I remember really detesting my time in school there since everything was so strict, so rigid. The piles of schoolwork that each teacher gave were insane, on top of that we had compulsory sports and volunteering activities that needed to be completed. However, once I left Singapore, I realised how much these activities had shaped me into the person I became today; it taught me time management, resource allocation and so much more.

Over the years, I went back a couple of times, to see my friends that I missed dearly. By the time all of us went to university, we were all over the world; Australia, The United States, London, etc. You name it and I probably had a friend who went there. It had been a while since I've been back, but I am so excited to taste the delicious food again. It was heavenly, to die for.

--------

"Kara," someone shook me, "tesoro."

I pushed their arm away, clearly annoyed by the intrusion of my precious slumber.

"MUMMY," Brooke shouted, as I jumped up, searching for danger.

"Where's the fire?" I asked, my heart still beating rapidly as my sympathetic nervous system was fired up.

"Nothing mummy," Brooke smiled guiltily, "you wouldn't wake up."

Alessandro was leaning against the seat, scrolling through his phone. His hair was neatly styled, making him look prim and proper. He was in his usual dashing suit, a royal blue one this time, with a vest inside, over his white dress shirt. His side profile made him irresistible. That sharp defined strong jawline-

"Let's go Tesoro," he said, "the car's waiting outside."

As we made our way out of the private jet and down the stairs, Alessandro kept his hand on my back, making shivers run down my spine. Dante was already down by the car waiting with Brooke as she sat on his shoulders, yanking clumps of his hair like Remy did in Ratatouille.

I laughed at the sight in front of me. They were adorable. Alessandro led me to the car, opening the door for me as I slid in with Brooke.

Before closing the door, he tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear and said teasingly, "Don't get into too much trouble, tesoro. We'll be back by dinner."

He winked at me, giving a flying kiss to Brooke as he said, "Bye piccolo."

Once we reached our hotel, Marina Bay Sands, we got out and I was surprised to be greeted at the front door.

"Good afternoon Ms Coleman," the manager said, "Mr De Luca has made all the arrangements. Please, follow me to your room."

I nodded, following his lead. The hotel itself was beyond amazing. The building is made up of three towers, withstanding the weight of a ship like structure on top as it looks out onto the river and the monumental symbol of Singapore, the Merlion.

As we reached the top floor, the manager led us to our floor. He gave us a tour of the floor, showing us the bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bar and pool table and finally the balcony.

"This floor has been reserved for Mr De Luca and his guests. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any assistance. Enjoy your stay ma'am." He said politely, leaving us to unpack.

"Mummy! Mummy! Look," Brooke exclaimed from the balcony as she looked out at the scenery.

"Wow," she awed in amazement, her eyes twinkling with excitement.

"Beautiful isn't it little one," I replied, taking in the city I used to call home once again.

"You know little one, mummy used to live here when she was young," I said as she perked up, listening intently, "how about we get some food and do a little sight-seeing?"

She nodded her head frantically running off inside to put on her shoes.

Once we were out of the hotel, Brooke and I walked along the connecting bridge, leading to a park called Gardens by the Bay. As we walked into the park, Brooke gasped and awed at all the greenery around, the skyscrapers that covered the entire city and waved towards the boats on the river that were full of tourists. I knew just the place to take Brooke for her first authentic meal in Singapore, a hawker centre.

As we entered the hawker centre, Satay by the Bay, all the scents of scrumptious delights filled our nostrils causing our stomachs to grumbled.

"Come on mummy," Brooke said, dragging me to look around the stalls, "I'm starving."

Singapore was known for its multi-cultural society. They had Malay, Chinese, Indian, Eurasian and more different cuisines that were enjoyed by the citizens every day. As Brooke looked over a man grilling Satays over a blazing hot charcoal flame, her drool spilling out of her mouth in anticipation.

"Uncle, can I get 10 chicken sticks and 10 beefs sticks please?" I asked as Brooke cheered.

After looking at each stall, we finally sat down as the myriad of dishes were placed on our table. Satay sticks, Hokkien mee, prawn noodles, chicken rice....

Our table was filled to the brim as Brooke and I dug into the dishes, moaning in delight as the savoury umami goodness melted in our mouths, satisfying our bellies.

"Mummy, can we live here forever?" Brooke asked, clearly brainwashed by the exquisite food.

I grunted, too full to even answer.

Once we were done with lunch and able to feel our legs again, we set off toward the tourist attraction in the park, the Supertrees and the Flower Dome. From the distance, Brooke spotted the Supertrees, tall purple man-made structures with creeping plants all over them, as she pointed them out with her little finger, gasping.

"Can we go there mummy?" She asked, pointing towards the bridge along the height of the Supertrees.

"Sure little one." I said, ruffling up her hair.

---------

"Brooke, Brooke, we can't stay here forever," I pleaded as she hung on to the Supertrees, not wanting to go.

She shook her head, holding on tighter.

"We're going to the Flower Dome now," I said, "there's a waterfall there."

Brooke contemplated her decision for a while before she caved in, holding onto my hand as we headed towards the Flower Dome. I heaved a sigh of relief as we finally reached the air-conditioned area. What I definitely didn't missed about Singapore is the humidity. Goodness gracious, my shirt was already soaked with sweat. Gross.

The Flower Dome was absolutely gorgeous. We were standing in a gigantic glass greenhouse dome filled with themed gardens, housing a multitude of exotic plants. Brooke and I took hundreds of photos, making sure to send some to my parents, Godfather and Hannah when we got back to the hotel. The waterfall was the best feature of the dome as Brooke and I closed our eyes, listening to the water crashing against the rocks below, feeling the cool air breeze through of hair.

By the time we headed off back to the hotel, Brooke was beyond exhausted, barely able to walk straight. I lifted her into my arms, carrying her as she clung onto me, dozing off now and then.

"Thank you for today mummy," she mumbled, "I loved it."

"Anything for you little one." I replied, petting her head, letting her rest.

Alessandro's POV:

What a day it's been. Once Dante and I were finished with the meeting with a business partner of ours, Dante received a phone call, saying that he needed to head back to his office back in Australia, taking the next flight out. I nodded my head in understanding, heading back to the hotel myself. The work never stops. No rest for the wicked.

Once I reached the hotel floor that I booked, I shrugged off my suit jacket, flinging my tie off my neck and folding my sleeves. That's much better. Instead of seeing two zestful girls bubbling with excitement, I saw the both of them sprawled out on one of the beds, sleeping the day away. I quietly approached the two sleeping figures, picking Brooke up carefully and placing her gently in the middle, her head on one of the fluffy pillows as I did the same for Kara, placing her on the right.

I took both their shoes off and tossing them on the ground, placing the covers over them as they snuggled into its warmth. Feeling the exhaustion catch up with me, I got into bed with them, sliding in the left, making sure Brooke wouldn't fall off the bed.

I placed a kiss on both their foreheads, wrapping my arms around both of them as I too fell into a peaceful slumber.
