《Chasing the Colemans (ON HOLD)》Chapter 12

Third person POV:
After Kara went back to her office, she started organising her new space. She unpacked several books and placed them on the shelves behind her, setting up her new laptop and going through her emails. Looking at the time, she got up and asked Russo which conference room the meeting was being held at. She started getting the room ready for the meeting, filling up glasses of water and placing them at each section. She placed her report gently on the table, making sure everything was in place before they came in. She needed to impress the boss after all.
As she sat on the chair at the back of the room, looking through the document once again, Russo entered the room with five other men following behind him. They settled themselves down, talking to each other in hushed tones.
"The boss must have gotten himself another secretary. A gorgeous one at that." One whispered.
"I bet he can't get any work done with this one walking around looking like that." Another said.
Kara clenched her fist in anger, her nails piercing her skin as she tried not to lash out at them. She kept her calm as she continued to flip through the document, mentally talking to herself to keep the demons at bay. The door opened again to her relief as Alessandro walked in. Instantly, the whispers all went silence. Alessandro walked in confidently, taking big strides to the head of the table as his body gave off a fierce and intimidating overtone.
"Ms Coleman, join us please." He said, disregarding them and gesturing for her to sit on his right.
All the men were shocked. Alessandro had never once invited anyone to partake in his meetings besides the parties involved. Little did they know, this meeting revolved around Kara herself.
As Kara stood up gracefully to join them at the table, the men raked their eyes over her curvy figure, their eyes filled with lust and want. This occurrence didn't go unnoticed by Alessandro as he glared at each one of them, letting out a deep growl.
"Ms Coleman, I seemed to have left my section of the report in my office. Would you please grab it for me?" He said gently to her, everyone looked away from her for a second.
"Sure. I'll be right back."
As Kara walked off, her hips swaying from side to side, the men in the room were enchanted by her lovely figure, their eyes following her retreating form as she left the room. Once Kara was out of sight, he growled loudly, slamming his hand on the table. The men in the room jumped out of fear and surprise, cowering in his presence.
"Ascolta attentamente signori..... un'altra occhiata a lei e perderai un occhio. Capire?" Alessandro said as they all nodded their heads quickly. (Listen carefully gentlemen, one more glance at her and you're going to lose an eye. Understand?)
Once Kara walked back into the room, all of the men had heeded his warning, not sparing a single glance at her as she handed him the document.
"Let's get started shall we?" I said, "Ms Coleman."
Kara stood up, taking over the meeting as Alessandro leaned back in his chair, observing her.
"Good morning gentlemen," She began, "Not many people are aware of this but the report in your very hands was complete by me. This very project is my first invention and I've called this meeting to hear the ideas that your team has in terms of promotion, manufacturing and dispersion of this product."

Kara was in her work mode as she placed her elbows on the table, leaning slightly forward, listening attentively to their ideas. Rebutting when necessary.
"No that won't work," she said, "by manufacturing it in that way, the companies will not break even within the first year, let alone the second year. There will be a 6 million deficit within the first 6 months of production. Next."
Alessandro was impressed. She was clear and concise, quick-witted and definitely knew the concept of calculated risks.
"Not possible. Wrong target consumer. Next."
Idea after idea was voiced out but nothing sounded good to Kara. As she leaned her head on one hand, clearly bored by their lack of ingenuity, she didn't let them finished their sentences, interrupting them with "No", "Never going to happen", "Not possible". Not long after, all the men in the room had run of things to say, twiddling their thumbs in silence. Tension was in the air as no one dared to make any sudden movements.
"Are these the best employees you've got?" She turned around, facing Alessandro.
He looked back at her, a bored expression on his face, as if saying, just tell them your plan already.
"Well gentlemen, seeing as though you five couldn't come up with a plan better than my own," she paused for dramatic effect, "You're dismissed."
She stood up, walking towards the window, pondering over her thoughts. The employees were so confused and offended. Never had anyone spoken to them in that manner. Their eyes held disbelief, looking towards their boss for further instructions.
"Well you heard your boss, you're dismissed," he said coldly, "Leave."
The men walked out of the conference room, leaving Alessandro and Kara alone. Alessandro stood up from his chair walking towards her, her back facing him. He placed his hands onto her waist, turning her around, towering over her small figure.
He pulled her closer to him, whispering in her ear, "Wonderfully done tesoro."
Kara gripped onto his broad shoulders, feeling butterflies in her stomach, electricity coursing through her body. It was not because of his touch but of the power she felt when he said she was the "boss". She knew that if she wanted her project to be a success, she'd be the one to do it. No one better than the inventor herself.
Realising the awkward position they were in, she coughed slightly, moving away from him. This was not professional for the workplace. What if Russo or someone else came in and saw us in that position, she thought.
"Thank you," she said, "I'm going back to my office now."
As Kara scurried off back to her office, Alessandro slowly walked back to his own and sighed. Kara was driving him insane. This arrangement is proving to be quite a challenge for him to remain impersonal.
Kara set her things back into place as she started up her laptop, looking through her journal for any more meetings scheduled for the day. As she opened her emails, she groaned at the vast number she had to go through. She hated emails to its core. As she was working through her emails, someone knocked on her door.
"Who is it?"
"Dante Valentino."
"Come in," Kara said, straightening out her suit jacket as he entered her office. As he strode into her office, she couldn't help but compare his appearance to Alessandro's. He was leaner than Alessandro and had a more cheeky and playful look. He definitely had a godly figure that could make girls faint with just one look but he didn't appeal to her as much as Alessandro did.

"Hello sweetheart, how are you doing?"
"I'm good thank you. How can I help you?"
"Actually I think I may be of assistance to you." He said causing my forehead to creased in confusion.
"Alessandro has told me of your plan for your project and I'd love to hear your proposal." He explained, "Why don't you and Alessandro come by my office in the hospital and we'll discuss it further there?"
"That'll be fantastic Mr Valentino."
"Dante's just fine sweetheart." He chuckled
"I'm heading to his office now so I'll tell him myself. See you later Kara." He said, walking out the door, not before giving her a cheeky smile.
Once he left Kara's office, he walked straight to Alessandro's office, not bothering to knock as he slammed the door open.
"Fratello, la tua persona preferita al mondo è qui," Dante shouted, winking in Alessandro's direction. (Brother, your favourite person in the world is here.)
Alessandro looked up from his laptop, seeing that it was just Dante, moving his gaze back onto his work.
"Non hai intenzione di salutare il tuo fratello preferito?" Dante asked, grabbing the laptop off his desk, making Alessandro glare in his direction. (Aren't you going to greet your favourite brother?)
"What do you want?" Alessandro asked, folding his arm across his chest, clearly disliking being disturbed while working.
"I just came from Kara's office," this got Alessandro's attention as his ears perked up, "I told her to come with you to my office at the hospital to discuss her project."
Speaking of the devil, a knock sounded on his door.
"Come in," Alessandro said.
Kara walked in, with a document in hand as she placed it on the table in front of him.
"This is the statistics for the proposal," she said as he flipped through the document, looking at them briefly.
Kara rocked back and forth in anticipation of his reaction. She couldn't help but toy with the strands of hair that framed her face, biting her lip out of habit. Alessandro noticed her actions from his peripheral, moving uncomfortably in his seat. God, what was she doing to me, he thought.
"This looks promising Kara. Thank you."
She nodded in response, heading out of his office.
Once she was out of earshot, Dante let out an exasperated gasp for air, gripping his chest. Alessandro rolled his eyes.
"Fratello, open a window please," he said puffing out his suit jacket, "the tension in this room is suffocating me."
"Excuse me?"
Dante raised his eyebrows, chuckling away, "Can't you feel the sexual tension in the air? It's so thick, that you could cut it with a knife."
"Sta 'zitto idiota. Torna al lavoro." Alessandro said, yanking his laptop from Dante's lap, getting back to work. (Shut up idiot. Go back to work.)
"Okay, okay. I'm going." Dante said, backing out of his office with his hands up in surrender.
"Ti amo," Dante hollered on his way out. (Love you)
"Ti amo anche fratello," Alessandro muttered under his breath, making sure to say it soft enough for him not to hear. (Love you too brother.)
---------
Kara turned her back from side to side as a loud crackle sounded, doing the same to her fingers and wrist.
"My goodness that felt good," she said to herself in satisfaction.
It was 4.30pm, time to go home. Kara packed all her belongings as she locked up her office door. As she walked past the receptionist's desk, she said goodbye to Russo, wishing him a goodnight. She pressed the button for the main elevator, making sure not to use Alessandro's private elevator again to avoid any further embarrassment.
As she waited patiently for the elevator, she started looking through the notifications on her phone, replying to her messages. She didn't notice Alessandro standing next to her as he snaked his arm around her waist, pulling her close.
"What are you waiting for tesoro?" He asked, looking deep into her eyes.
"The elevator," she mumbled, pointing to the main one that his employees used.
"Come on," He said as he guided her to his private one.
"From now on, you are to use this elevator and not the main one alright." He stated, still not letting her go.
"Why?" she asked, "I don't need special treatment."
"Because I said so," he said, giving her a firm look, daring her to argue with him.
Being totally exhausted from the day, she had no energy left to argue with him on this matter, giving in to his request just this once. They rode down the elevator in comfortable silence, making their way out to their personal vehicles.
Alessandro opened the door of her car for her, helping her in.
"Goodbye tesoro. See you tomorrow."
"Goodbye Alessandro."
With their goodbyes said, Kara instructed William to head to her parents' house to pick up her daughter. Once they reached her parents' house, she got out of the car, heading to the door.
"Mum, dad, Brooke, I'm here," she hollered, wondering where they were at.
"MUMMY!" Brooke yelled as she sprinted towards her mother, slamming right into her legs.
"Hey little one, how was your day?" Kara asked sweetly, kissing her daughter all over her face, clearly missing her dearly.
"Good. Good. I gave grandpa a makeover," she said excitedly, grabbing her hand, showing her the way.
When Kara saw the look Brooke had given her grandpa, she burst out laughing.
"He looks beautiful little one. Like a little princess." She smiled down at her daughter's beaming face. Her father's eyelid had patches of black and blue, making it look like someone had punch him in the face multiple times. His lips were the size of Jupiter, the red lipstick covering his entire chin.
Once Brooke and Kara had packed all her things from her parents' house and placed them into the car, they said their goodbyes, heading back home. On the trip home, Brooke laid her head on her mother's lap as Kara used her fingers to comb through her hair, soothing her child just like she always did. Kara traced Brooke's ears, caressing her face, gazing lovingly at her sweet daughter.
How did I get so lucky, she wondered.

8 330The Forgotten Hero
Long ago, in the world of Thyne, the Alliance of the Free Races, a name they had given themselves, summoned a hundred humans from another dimension. Praised as heroes by the people, they rejoiced that they had been able to acquire pure, mana deficient humans that wanted to aid them in their time of need, ignoring the black, archaic slave collars around their necks or the depressed, almost hate-filled expressions that they received when interacting with them. After Ten years of bloody war, the dark races were pushed back deep into their territories. Both sides were near breaking point and desperate to end the war once and for all. In a bargain, the twelve surviving heroes launched a high-risk mission, utilising advanced tactics from their home world to kill the Demon Lord. In exchange, they would be sent home, along with the magically preserved corpses of their comrades, though in truth, they knew that even if they returned, they would never be the same. Legends say that, upon ambushing the Demon Lord in his castle, they finally understood the plight of the world, and in the last act of heroism, sacrificed their lives, sealing him in an eternal prison so his essence would not be able to create another. With the loss of the Demon Lord, and no chance for another to be born, the dark races quickly surrendered and the free races celebrated, honouring the noble sacrifice of the heroes before quickly forgetting about them as they returned to their everyday lives. However, legends are rarely truthful, embellished by the victors in order to earn praise as well as hide the less desirable aspects of their deeds. Trapped in the Demon Lord's throne room inside the Demonic Palace, which even taking a single step on its desecrated grounds is punished by death, two figures remain motionless. They had long run out of insults and threats to trade and now they waited. For what, not even the Gods knew.
