《Chasing the Colemans (ON HOLD)》Chapter 8

Alessandro's POV:

Ever since Dante and I had left for London, we haven't had much of a break. We were up from dawn, going to meeting after meeting, trying to fit in as much as we could while we were here, only heading back to the hotel after midnight.

It was close to 3am when we finally got back to our hotel.

"Sto per cadere morto, fratello," Dante said tiredly, ripping the tie off his neck as we walked towards the elevator. (I'm about to drop dead brother.)

I grunted in response, equally as exhausted.

Dante could barely keep his head up as he slumped against the side of the elevator, leaning his full weight on the handlebar. Once the doors of the elevator opened, he didn't move. Don't tell me he fell asleep. There was no way I was going to carry his fatass to the room. I smacked him across the head, waking him up in a start.

"Buona notte, fratello. Riposati," I said, patting him on his cheek. (Goodnight brother. Get some rest.)

We headed to our separate rooms on the top floor. Once I reached my room, I stripped off all my clothes, disregarding the fact that I had left a trail behind as I crashed onto the bed, sinking into the soft silky sheets.

Despite my exhaustion, a certain woman waltzed into my mind. I wonder what she was up to today. It's been a while since I've heard her sweet and innocent voice. In the spur of the moment, I stood up from the bed, walking towards the glass windows, looking out at the peaceful city in front of me as I sent her a message.

My thumbs twiddled in anticipation, hoping that she would reply to me soon. It was 6 pm in Australia, she should reply soon. To my delight, my phone beeped.

Hello Alessandro. My day was really good, thank you for asking. I hope you are doing well in London.

- Kara

Reading her message wasn't enough to quench my thirst. I needed to hear her voice. Not being in the right mindset, my fingers unconsciously clicked the call button.

"H-hello?" I missed that voice of hers.

"Alessandro? Are you there?" She asked melodiously. I loved the way she said my name.

"Hello tesoro. I'm here." I answered, "how are you?"

"I'm good" She answered, "how are about you? Is London treating you well?"

"I'm good tesoro. Busy but good. The skyline at 3 am is actually quite serene really," I said, looking out at the view, wishing she was right here with me, "you should see it for yourself one day."

"3 am?!" she semi-yelled, "are you insane? You should be asleep."

I laughed, she had such mother instincts alright.

"I will tesoro." I chuckled, "how's Brooke doing?"

"She's doing alright. Actually she wanted to talk to you today," I raised my eyebrows in surprise, even though no one could see me.

"Brooke! Alessandro's on the phone if you want to talk to him." She yelled out as I heard her heavy footsteps getting louder.

"Hi Alessy."

"Hello piccolo," I chuckled, "how was your day?"

"Good! I got into the soccer team today," I didn't know she played soccer, especially at that age, "I'm going to be a great soccer p-play-er like mummy was."

Kara surprises me every day. I never knew she played soccer, let alone any sports in general. What can't she do?

"That's great piccolo. Maybe I can watch you play one day."

"Yes please." Brooke pleaded, "I have my very first match next week."

"Little one, he's a very busy man." I heard my tesoro say softly to Brooke.

"Oh....." she said, sounding very disappointed.

"It's okay Alessy, mummy says you're b-usy."

"No no sweetheart, I'll be there. I promise." I reassured her. "Tell your mum to send me the details okay?"

All I heard was screaming over the phone. Ouch, my eardrums.

"Thanks Alessy!" She giggled.

"No problem piccolo. Anything for you."

"Alessy, I have a question." She squeaked.

"What is it piccolo?"

"Do you like mummy?" I was stunned. How did a 3-year-old know so much?

"BROOKLYN," my tesoro shouted.

"piccolo?"

"She ran out the room. Sorry about that."

I chuckled.

"Well tesoro, I better let you go...call me soon?"

"Yes I will. Goodnight Alessandro."

"Goodnight Kara"

Once the call ended, I placed my phone on the bedside table. I settled into bed and drifted off, with a lasting thought in my mind.

Godfather's POV:

"Daniel, those fucking documents better be on my desk by the time I come back to the office," I sneered darkly, as I walked across the busy streets of London.

"B-but Sir, I-" He stuttered and I rolled my eyes in annoyance.

"Those documents should have been sent to me yesterday so be fucking grateful for my extension." I had enough of this conversation, ending the call before he could reply.

In 25 years of being the CEO of my own company, it was almost impossible to hire decent employees. I had just lost my best assistant, my goddaughter, of course, leaving me with this imbecile. Kara was always very organised, she knew exactly what reports I needed before I had to even open my mouth to ask. Without my constant presence in the office, she knew how to handle deals and opportunities; weighing out the pros and cons quickly in her head, calculating the odds of success before making her decision. Usually, she just took around 5-10 minutes. I've seen it happen. She was a true businesswoman in the making and I had big plans for her.

I strode into De Luca Inc., making my way up the elevator. I had a bone to pick with the boss himself. Despite the games, I play on my fellow businessman. When it came to the real deal, I was as serious as a dead man.

"Sir, can I help you?" The woman at the front desk asked. Ignoring her, I continued towards the elevator, slipping inside and pressing the 'close' button.

"Sir, you need an appoin-" The elevator doors closed. Thank goodness. I was not a man that liked to be told what to do and when.

Once I reached the top floor, I saw Russo, Mr De Luca's personal assistant.

"Good afternoon Sir, Mr De Luca is currently unavailable," He responded almost robotically, "would you like to schedule a meeting with him at another time?"

"No thank you Russo. Tell Mr De Luca I'll be waiting in his office." I said simply, walking straight into the office at the end of the hall and settling down on the chair nearest to the window.

It was a clear tactic, saying that the boss wasn't in. Knowing how Mr De Luca worked, I knew the moment I stepped into his building, he would have already been notified. He was a good businessman alright, always conscientious, and kept a very well run system. I respected him for that. I kept my gaze out onto the skyline, admiring the contrast between the bustling streets of London below and the breezy, peaceful sky above. I closed my eyes, enjoying the blissful silence in the air.

I heard footsteps outside the office doors and the doors opening. Without turning around, a smirk graced my face.

"I hope you are enjoying the view," He said.

I turned around slowly, ripping my eyes away from the beautiful sight in front of me, taking my time. Mr De Luca had a stoic demeanour, with folded arms across his chest as he leaned against his oak wood desk.

"What can I do for you?"

"Well you see Mr De Luca, when I invited you to attend an investors' meeting with one of my clients, you didn't show," I replied, as my face darkened.

"I didn't think you were being serious." He said seriously.

I tilted my head to the side slightly, fair remark.

"I was very much serious," I replied, tossing the report statistics onto his desk.

I turned back to the scenery as he measly picked up the stack of paper, looking through. I knew he would be highly interested in this given offer, given the fact that he was looking in ways of expanding his business into the medical industry.

"When is the likely completion of this project?"

"It's already been completed," I replied, "my client is looking for investors to kick start the production and for it to be available for the public."

He raised his eyebrows in surprise. Internally I agreed with him. It was a crazy project alright.

"Okay then," Mr De Luca said, flipping through the paper once more, "set up a meeting with them when I get back from London."

"It's just one person."

"Are you saying that one person came up with this idea and completed the whole project by themself?" He said in disbelief.

I nodded in response. My goddaughter was out this world, a living breathing genius. I knew how much she had put into this project; all the sleepless nights, the cranking of algorithms, the frustration over not knowing how to proceed. I was so proud of her and I would not rest until she is given all the recognition she deserves. Her invention is going to make a lot of people very happy.

"Well that's insane." He continued.

"That's my goddaughter for you." I said, my face glowing with pride.

He looked up and nodded, seemingly impressed.

"Nice doing business with you." I said as I got up from my seat.

"Mr De Luca" I acknowledged.

"Mr Borgatti" He nodded.

With that being settled, I walked out of his office. Feeling quite content with myself, I decided to call Kara to let her know of the good news.

"Hey snowflake," I beamed. It calmed my nerves whenever I spoke to her and Brooke.

"Hey uncle Stef, what's up?"

"Well I've spoken to the investors who came to the meeting and they've all said that they're interested."

I heard screaming in the background as I chuckled to myself.

"That's amazing!"

"I know snowflake, but I've just had a meeting with a major potential investor and he would like to meet with you sometime soon. Are you okay with that?"

"Yes, definitely. How major are we talking?" She quizzed.

"Um..you know, just the richest man in the world and the ceo and founder of the number one ranked company right now." I said simply.

She gasped.

"Shut the front door," she said, I could imagine the shocked on her face, "you gotta be kidding me?"

"Not even in the slightest snowflake. I gave him your report and he was genuinely impressed if I say so myself."

"OH MY GOD" she screeched repeatedly and I chuckled at her excitement.

"Okay then, I'll let you wrap your head around this matter. I'll be back home in a day or two and we'll have a family day with everyone."

"Sounds great uncle Stef. Thank you thank you thank you so much for everything. Love you."

"My pleasure snowflake. Love you too. See you soon."

I walked back to the car waiting for me.

"Head back to the office Walker," I said.

I had a lot of planning to do for the upcoming events. There was a major decision that I was about to make that would affect many people in different ways. I wanted to make sure everything was in order, all deals and alliances have to be set in stone before carrying out my intended plan for my company.
