The prompt is: "I caught the bouquet".

Warnings: none

Your best friend had begged you to go with Alfred as your date to her wedding.

She had felt like seeing two young good looking people being single would depress her guest, that's why she was so keen on making the two of you go together.

You knew Alfred, he was studying with you and your friends at the same university and he was kind and clever, but you had never thought about being in a relationship with him.

It was mostly because most of the time you were very happy with being single, though you sometimes felt the need for a relationship you could usually ignore it, because you just couldn't find the right guy.

When your friend talked to you she made you call Alfred immediately, who was surprised but happy to be asked.

Alfred seemed like the type to not be able to ask people out, and you chuckled to know that you were right.

When Alfred came to pick you up for the wedding he was wearing a crisp suit, and you were sure it was tailored because it fit him too well, accentuating his slim body and making him look even more angelic than usual.

He was usually always very well dressed, but this suit made him look even better and you were left to stare at him for a few shameless seconds before you found yourself again and greeted him.

You didn't know Alfred well but you had studied in a group together a few times already, or met to go for a drink, again in a group.

You had never actually only met Alfred and so it was quite awkward at first, but over the course of the drive you managed to rid of the awkwardness and start a conversation the two of you were actually enjoying.

The wedding ceremony was beautiful, and you felt Alfred's eyes on you quite a few times, and you were happy to have him staring at you.

It made you giddy, because Alfred was so kind and beautiful and you knew he didn't want to stare, but he did.

After the ceremony you drove to the reception that was luckily nearby, and you talked happily about the wedding during the whole drive.

It was surprising how well the two of you got along, which you hadn't expected.

He had seemed so reserved but he was kind and talkative and it was wonderful to talk to him.

You sat with him during the reception too, and it was perfect to just talk and get to know each other further.

When the music started you watched the bride and groom dance.

After they finished you smiled back at Alfred who extended his hand towards you.

"Do you want to dance with me?", he asked softly, a shy smile making its way onto his face that made your knees go weak.

You glanced at him, chuckling.

"I'd love to. It's just... I've never learned how to", you answered, referring to the classic pair dancing.

He smiled at you, not giving up just yet.

"I'll lead. It'll be easy, you'll see", he said softly and you nodded, giving in and getting up while putting your hand in his.

Alfred led you to the dance floor with a grace only he had while he told you gently what to do.

It was just a simple waltz, but Alfred led you with so much grace and determination that you knew he had years of practice.

You felt entirely comfortable in his embrace, his hand on your waist and in yours giving you the confidence you needed and you felt encouraged by the small conversation you had and by the way he was looking at you, as if you were the only person in the room.

Even though you would have thought that this kind of stare would startle you when Alfred looked at you you felt entirely at ease, and you watched him in the exact same manner.

You had never seen him like this, but he was intoxicating in the most beautiful and wholesome way.

A few hours in your friends decided to take wedding pictures before anyone would leave, and Alfred and you were asked to join the pictures as well, because you were after all a bridesmaid.

Standing next to Alfred during the pictures felt like the most natural thing and you loved being there next to him.

When you stopped taking pictures your friend decided to throw her bouquet, like the tradition to see who would marry next.

You stood at the side because you didn't want to participate, because you obviously didn't have a boyfriend to marry, and you felt like it was an almost childish tradition.

When something came straight towards you you caught it out of reflex to not get hit by it, and it took you a moment to realize that you were holding the bouquet in your hands.

Everyone was staring at you, one of which was Alfred, and you were just staring back at him.

After a few seconds you averted your eyes, and you were sure you were blushing.

When you went back inside you sat back down and he sat down next to you, reaching for his water glass and taking the bouquet from your hands to water it.

He smiled slightly, awkwardly, and chuckled softly.

"So... you'll marry soon?", he asked with a slight grin on his face and you chuckled at him.

"Yes. I... I caught the bouquet", you smiled at him and he nodded.

After a few hours you decided to leave, and Alfred brought you back home.

He led you to your door and waited for you to open it before smiling at you.

"I... enjoyed myself very much today", he said softly and you nodded quickly, holding onto the bouquet that was dripping onto your feet and the carpet.

"Yes, me too", you answered and he smiled, seemingly relieved that his feelings were returned.

There was a short silence before he continued, nervously watching you as he tried to think of what to say.

"I... would you... I mean you're obviously not in a relationship at the moment and I loved spending time with you... would you want to go out with me sometime? Just you and me? As a date, maybe? It wouldn't have to be our wedding just yet?", he joked and you nodded enthusiastically, while laughing.

"I would love that", you answered as you stepped forward towards him and out of the doorway as you watched him cautiously.

You wanted to say goodbye to him properly, but a hug was too strange and a handshake too formal, so you moved closer, softly setting your lips on his cheek.

When you pulled back the two of you were both blushing, and smiling at each other.

"What about tomorrow? I'll pick you up at 7?", he asked you softly and you nodded as you stepped back into your apartment.

"I'd love that", you answered again and smiled as you shut the door.
