As they finished up eating and Grace finished her cup. Halfdan stood and took her cup along with plate and handed back to the cook. "Let's go for a walk." He said as she stood and jumped up and down.
"Really!" "Yeah, just stay close to camp." She grabbed ahold of his arm and dragged him along. "Don't stray too far, sister!" She heard Ubbe yell and she waved him off,
They walked through the forest as she searched for flowers. "You and your flowers." He said as she crouched down and grabbed one. "You love them and me." She said standing as she twirled a flower between her fingers.
"When we get back to Kattegat.." she said moving to sit on the ground, Halfdan following suit. "Our home will be covered in flowers." Halfdan rolled his eyes while smiling at her.
"We will have the most beautiful garden. You will help me." She said patting his shoulder and he grabbed a blade of grass. "Okay, fine, I promise to help with our garden. But, you should know, I can't cook."
Her hand dropped and she let out a laugh. "Don't worry, I will do everything that you can't. I will even take care of the kids." She said but in the corner of her eye she saw him frown.
"Who said anything about kids." He said as he crossed his arms like a child. "We don't have to, I'm happy with only having you." She said as she rubbed his back.
He shocked her by bursting into laughter. "What did I say?" "I would be more than happy for kids. Just not now." She nodded and put the flower behind his ear.
"I can wait as long as you. Even through war, I can wait for you." He smiled and laid a soft kiss to her lips. "I only want what's best for us." He said jumping to stand up.

"Shall we make our way back, Princess." He said bending to extend his hand. She smiled and held it as she stood and gave a curtsy. "We shall, my prince." She said as he stood and held her hand to lead them back to the camp.
As they reached the tent Ubbe sat outside. "I will leave you two alone." Halfdan said as he entered the tent and Ubbe stood. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"When we fight tomorrow, stay with me." Ubbe said as he put both hands on her shoulders. "What about Halfdan?" "I've seen him fight, I want to know you're safe." He said and she hesitated to nod.
As she entered the tent Halfdan was laid on the bed with his eyes closed. "I agree." He said causing her took look with confusion. "Stay with him. I know he can keep you safe."
"I will stay within eyes view of you, my prince." She said as she walked over and kissed his forehead. "We will be fine." He said as she left to change into her nightgown.
She made her way back to the bed and laid on her side. "I love you, Princess." He said as he wrapped her arm around her waist. She grabbed his hand and laid a kiss on it. "I love you, my prince."
With those words they both fell into a deep sleep. But what they both didn't know was what was about to happen.

The Dawn of Blood
As the saying goes, "Ignorance is bliss." That is a good way to describe us. We are constantly seeking to improve, to evolve. Coming up with laws and theories to better understand the world around us. But what if it was all for naught. What if what we think is truth is nothing more than the actions of higher beings, far beyond our reach. Upon the discovery of an entire new reality, remaining ignorant is certain death. The only way to live is to grow, to evolve, to adapt. This is my first novel so any feedback and criticism is greatly appreciated. I hope that I'm able to grow as a writer through this and hope that people enjoy my work. Credit for the cover image goes to Richard Luong. Check him out at https://tentaclesandteeth.deviantart.com.
