《VIKING PRINCESS》Chapter Thirty-Six

Once they returned to camp there was a meeting set. Lagertha walked over toward Grace who still had her head down. "You should stay in you tent, you've had a rough day." Grace looked up and Lagertha gave her a weak smile.
"No, I would like to be there." Lagertha shook her head and pulled the girl in for a hug. Graces shoulders started to shake as she cried. "After the meeting I will send Halfdan."
Grace nodded as Lagertha pulled back before giving Grace a once over. Grace made her way toward her tent and fell onto the makeshift bed. She cradled into herself and let the tears flow.
She then felt arms wrap around her waist and a kiss pressed to her head. "Are you okay, Princess?" "He, didn't mean it. He doesn't regret anything." She said as she rolled over to face him.
He brushed hair from her face and kissed her forehead. "If there's one thing I sure of, is that he didn't mean what he said about you and Ubbe." She shook her head at him and sat up.
"Of course he meant it." She said as she stood and paced causing Halfdan to sit up. "He's changed. He probably could care less if I died. The look in his eyes.." she said as she stopped and her eyes started to water.
Halfdan stood quick and wrapped her in his arms. She wrapped hers around him letting out some tears. He calmed her down and they laid back onto the bed. He started to brush his fingers through her hair as she had taken it out of the braids. He felt her calm and her breathe become even as she fell asleep.
He slowly left the bed and kissed her head. He made his way to Ubbe. "She thinks he hates her. She even said he wouldn't care if she died." He said in a low voice as Ubbe turned to greet him. Ubbe shook his head, "he could never hate her. I understand he could hate me but not her. He would be torn if she died."

"I tried to tell her that." Ubbe shook his head and looked to the stars in the sky. "I'll talk to her about it in the morning. Right now, she needs you. I've never seen her so in love."
They shared a smile as it was a comforting thing for Halfdan. He left Ubbe and returned to see Grace sat on the corner of the bed with her legs to her chest. Once the tent opened she ran toward him.
"I thought you left." "I could never." She smiled as they shared a kiss and one thing led to another. She woke the next morning on her side feeling an arm on her waist. She jerked up and immediately pulled the covers to her chest.
"Are you okay?" She heard the voice next to her ask in a hoarse voice. She nods quick and lays back down causing Halfdan to put his head next to hers. She reached for his hand and kisses it.
"Sister, Halfdan told—" Ubbe stopped short and his eyes widened. He quickly coughed then hurried out of the tent. Halfdan and Grace shared a laugh at Ubbes expense.
"Why don't you go get something to eat. I'll talk to Ubbe." She said as she shared a kiss with the man. "Would you like anything." She shakes her head as he gets off the bed and dressed.
She sighs and gets on a gown and sets at the table while brushing her hair. "You got busy, sister." Ubbe said in a joking tone as she threw the brush toward him. He caught it with a grin and handed it back.

After the End: Serenity
We all want to believe we are heroes of our own story - unless we want to be the villain, of course. At the end of everything, the Final Reaper decided he hadn’t been a hero. Driven by a desire to right the wrongs he was subjected to, he killed everyone who wronged him or his people - which turned out to be everyone that wasn’t killed by someone else first. He'd won - but it was a hollow victory. Eventually, Order’s Voice found a way out. If the only existing being would agree to give up most of his power, the Voice could reset the multiverse to an earlier time with a few minor changes. Of course, the Voice couldn't ask it that way. It could only ask if the Final Reaper was willing to start over from when Earth was first brought into Order. It was an easy decision, and yet it wasn’t. Was he willing to go through eons of pain again to not be alone? Yes. In a heartbeat. Not that his heart beat anymore. Now it would. Perhaps he could even be a hero, this time. When he landed in his old body - more or less - on Earth, the Final Reaper once again became Thomas. He was both and neither. He needed a new name for a new life. Serenity. ------------------------------------------ While this is technically a System Apocalypse story, it's a System Apocalypse that is designed to have a large percentage of the population survive and prosper. There are a lot of problems that come with the appearance of the Voice, and it's entirely possible to lose. Earth has some special opportunities, but also special challenges. The first time around, Earth won the first round and lost the second. Serenity has ten years from when the Voice arrives to prevent that from happening. It will be a group effort; Serenity can't win alone - which is difficult for someone who's been alone for as long as he has. Of course, that's only his second priority. ------------------------------------------- Updates Daily A note on the nonhuman lead tag: He isn't human, and hasn't been human for a very, very long time (or maybe not long at all, depending on how you count it). He still thinks of himself as human, either way. The content warnings are mostly to give me room to write; this fiction is not intended to be edgy, but once in a while a character will swear or someone will get seriously injured. The cover image is a Chandra/Hubble composite image of VV 340 / Arp 302 / UGC 9618. While we're not going to space itself any time soon in the story, people from elsewhere are coming to Earth and Serenity will visit other planets. Plus, I like space imagery.
