《Breathe Princess (Daryl Dixon Love Story)》Chapter Fifty Three

It wasn't until a few moments later when Beth and Dawn left the room with Carol in it, Beth ushering me to my feet.

"You have to get dressed." She mumbled to me as we walked along to hall ways down towards our rooms.

"Why?" I questioned, looking at Dawn who looked incredibly pissed.

"Rick's here, he's come to get us out." She had a small smile on her face which mimicked mine.

If Rick was here, that meant that Daryl would be too. He was his right hand man, there was no way that he would go anywhere without him, especially when it involved this kind of a rescue mission.

My heart did a flip at the thought of seeing him again. It felt like it had been forever since I'd last seen him. I'd forgotten how much happiness one little smile from him could bring me, how much I would smile when I would put on one of his shirts and it would smell like cigarettes and I would know that he was close to me, even if he was out on a run. I needed him back and I was finally getting my wish.

"I'll meet you outside of your rooms." Dawn interrupted my thoughts, stopping as we came to two rooms, one mine and one Beths.

I threw the door open quickly and rummaged around in my bag that was lying on the floor, being incredibly careful of my shoulder.

I threw on the same clothes I was wearing when Beth and I were taken, shimmying into my jeans before throwing my bag on my back. I knew it still had the medicine in it, it was the same stuff they had me on when they were using the IV drip.

I was the first one out of my room, Dawn waiting patiently outside of it whilst we waited for Beth; no word spoken between us two.

I would have liked to say that it was a comfortable silence but it definitely wasn't.

Dawn left quickly as she got a radio through telling her that they were here, my heart fluttered and I had to stop myself from smiling.

Dawn called down the hallway to a doctor that was escorting Carol in a wheelchair down the hall, Beth finally emerging from her room.

"Let me take her." She softly smiled at the doctor before taking Carol, all four of us making our way down the now empty hallway with Carol out in front, me walking the opposite side to Beth than the doctor.

She seemed to trust him, she'd clearly had more encounters with him than I had had, but I was finding it very hard now days to actually trust anyone else; not after everything that had happened.

As we rounded the corner, there was a line up of cops waiting; the rest of us waiting at the back. There still wasn't a view of the others but I could hear footsteps coming from the hallway just up ahead.

My heart beat was beginning to pick up, a small pain branching from the area but I tried my hardest to suppress it. The last thing I needed was to finally be back with Daryl only to collapse from the pain. I needed to breathe and push through it.

I could see Rick poking his head into the glass window of the door at the end of the hallway, Carol reaching out and gripping Beth's hand as she too noticed.

"Holster your weapons." Dawn spoke through her walkie, all of the officers around us doing as she said.

The doors opened and I couldn't help the smile that made its' way onto my face. Neither Beth nor Carol was smiling but I couldn't help it. I caught sight of Daryl and a feeling of relief flooded over me. He was here, he'd finally come to find us.

Rick and the others walked forwards, stopping towards the end of the hallway, three officers handcuffed in front of them; their leverage.

Dawn nodded at the three of us to walk forwards, into the line of sight so they could see that we were okay, at least for the most part.

"They haven't been harmed." Ricks' rough voice spoke up from across the hall and a wave of familiarity washed over me.

"One of yours for one of mine." Dawn spoke, Rick nodding his head and Daryl ushered one of the men forwards. One of the officers beside us grabbed hold of the wheelchair from Beth and moved Carol forwards, bringing her to Daryl.

My eyes were on him the whole time. He was dirty and sweaty but by now I knew that's just how he looked; I was completely used to it.

Dawn grabbed a hold of both Beth and I, walking us forward as Rick brought the other two officers with him to meet us in the middle. As soon as Dawn let go of my arm and Rick had moved the two officers forwards, I flung myself around him, gripping tightly onto him and buried myself in his neck.

Rick placed a hand on Beth's shoulder as she moved forwards, myself finally letting go as Rick moved the two of us away.

"Glad we could work things out." Dawn spoke up, I wasn't paying attention, I was too busy walking quickly towards Daryl, engulfing him into the biggest hug I could muster up with my messed up shoulder. His hand found his way into my hair as he held me close for only a second before letting me go, his hand dropping down to mine as we turned to walk out of the building and away from these people.

"Now I just need Noah."

A black kid that was stood to one side turned to face Dawn, Rick stopping in his tracks before turning to face her, anger clear on his features. "And then you can leave."

"That wasn't part of the deal." Rick walked back towards her, the rest of us turning to face her too.

"Nor was my word." Dawn shook her head and she had that horrible smirk on her face again; it was only slight but I could see it. "Beth and Annora took his place, I'm losing them I need him back." My grip tightened on Daryl's hand as he stood beside me, not once taking his eyes away from the woman in front.

Noah went to make a move forward but Daryl released my hand, stepping away from me and pushing Noah back slightly.

"He ain't stayin." He walked forwards to stand next to Rick, their power was clearly going to over power Dawn.

"He's one of mine you have no claim over him."

"He wants to leave and go home, you have no claim on him." I spoke up for the first in what seemed like forever, everyone's eyes suddenly on me. I didn't even know this kid but if he was the reason we were finally getting to go home safe, there was no way I was going to let him go back to Dawn; not after seeing the way she worked.

"Then we don't have a deal." Dawn looked from myself to Rick.

"The deal is done." Rick was getting agitated, his hand hovering over his pistol at his side.

"It's okay," Noah Limped forwards "I gotta do it." He pulled out the gun that was shoved into the back of his jeans and handed it to Rick.

"It's not okay." Beth spoke up softly, her voice carrying through the halls. She stepped forwards, making her way towards Noah. Beth stormed forwards and enveloped Noah into a hug, an okay coming from Noah.

I hadn't realised I'd stepped forwards a few more paces as Beth had moved, shadowing her as if she would be gone the second I let her out of my bubble.

"I knew you'd be back." Dawn almost gloated as she looked towards the boy who was still in a hug from Beth.

Beth moved, standing directly in front of Dawn before speaking.

"I get it now."

That's when everything happened so fast.

Beth moved, stabbing something into dawn as a gun shot went off, blood spurting from the top of Beth's head as she began falling to the floor.

I screamed and raced forwards, grabbing Beth just before she collapsed, her head resting in the crease of my elbow as tears began to stream down my face. I couldn't think of anything in that moment apart from her.

When we first met she was so young and so quiet, she and I never really spoke but the prison opened her up. She and I becoming fast friends. I didn't know if it was our age or how much we had lost but she was one of my best friends in that place. She kept me safe whilst we were here in this hospital, kept me alive and away from Dawn for as long as possible.

I jumped again at the sound of another gun shot, looking up to see Daryl holding the gun with tears in his eyes as Dawn dropped to the floor beside me. I turned by attention quickly back to Beth who was still in my arms.

"Hold your fire!" A woman shouted, one of the officers Rick had taken was holding back the others, all of our people holding guns towards them.

The rest of what they were saying was a blur to me, the sounds of Rick talking was merely muffled by the ringing that had appeared in my ears.

A hand on my shoulder forced me to look up, Daryl and Rick stood above me. Rick hauled me to my feet and brought me into a comforting hug as Daryl bent down, tears streaming down his face as he picked up Beth, carrying her out of the hospital; back out to where Maggie and the others were waiting.
