《Breathe Princess (Daryl Dixon Love Story)》Chapter Fifty

I wrapped my arms around my knees, sighing as silence fell among us. I looked up getting blinded by Atlantas melting sun, though making its forest look beautiful than ever. I turned my head over to Beth, noticing her slightly picking on her food. Not blaming her, snake meat wasn't my cup of tea either. Turning my head over to Daryl, noticing him hesitant at first then he dug in. A small smile peered on my face resting my chin on top of my arm gazing around.

''I need a drink'' Beth spoke, looking at both Daryl and I. I watched as Daryl grabbed the bottle of water and tossed it over to her. Blinking, myself kept on a straight face and didn't make any type of comment.

''No I mean a real drink'' She pushed the bottle away from her ''As in alcohol''

That is when I looked at her and raised my eyebrows. We are in the middle of nowhere, where in the hell are we suppose to find alcohol?

''I've never had one. 'Cause of my dad but he's not exactly here anymore soo I thought that maybe we could find some'' She said looking at me but mainly Daryl since he is the one in charge and is good at tracking. I opened my mouth to say something watching her eyes light up but closed it afterwards not really wanting to state my opinion nor hurt her feelings. I'd rather go and find Carl, my mom and the rest of the group which i'm terribly worried about instead of sitting here thinking about finding booze.

''Okay, well enjoy your snake jerky'' She rolled her eyes and got up, taking her knife and walking off.

''Beth'' I called after her, but she simply ignored and continued walking until she disappeared.

I looked at Daryl sighing ''We'll just let her go?''

''Made her choice'' He mumbled shoving his hand inside my bag tossing me my prescribed pills. I took one from each 3 bottles swallowing them dry stopping him from giving me the bottle of water.

''Could've taken them easier with water'' He said dryly putting them back to where they were.

''Why waste water?'' I asked fiddling with my hands. I could feel the tension between us hell anyone would feel it. I can see that something's up with him, by the way he talks, looks and his body language. He wasn't acting like himself these past 2 days. Last time we had a conversation and when he acted like himself was when my worst nightmare came true. I try not to think of it and is still positive that they're all alive, maybe that's the reason maybe he lost hope or maybe he's still upset that I didn't tell him about Jacob.

My palms started to sweat wanting to say something, wanting to make sure he was alright but nothing came out. I just didn't have that confidence and courage to start a conversation with him like how our conversation used to be.

We both jumped up hearing growls, myself having my handy knife in my right hand and Daryl having his crossbow lifted up. He walked and I followed soon enough spotting Beth hiding behind a tree.

''There you are'' I sighed in relief thanking god she was okay. Daryl's face was filled with annoyance and he just walked off us of course, following behind.

''I think we made it a way, I'm pretty sure we got to go that way to find the booze'' Beth told Daryl tripping over the metal bars she hung earlier.

''What the hell? You guys brought me back. I'm not staying in this suck-ass camp'' She raised her voice, flipping Daryl off right towards his face (myself thinking it's a horrible idea).

''Beth'' I exclaimed stepping in, shocked by her actions.

''Hey you had your fun'' Daryl grabbed her wrist, clearly pissed off.

''What the hell is wrong with you? Do you feel anything? Yeah, you think everything's screwed. I guess that's a feeling. So you want to spend the rest of our lives staring into a fire and eating mud snakes? Screw that, we might as well do something. I can take care of myself and I'm gonna get a damn drink'' She burst turning around and walking off. He looked back at me nodding making his way over to the ''camp'' grabbing the stuff that we had. I walked over kneeling down helping him, I picked up my backpack slinging it over my shoulder, Daryl going the same thing.

''Let's go'' He mumbled, myself taking the lead with him following behind.

We eventually found ourselves inside this golfers club hoping Beth would find herself some booze although she almost got herself killed earlier.

We made our way down the stairs, then crawled down on the floor underneath a tilted cabinet, our hands digging on the shattered glass just so we could go to the other side. We arrived inside a room, something caught my eyes making me uncomfortable; a women's skeleton half body replaced with a mannequins legs and a sign written with blood saying ''Rich bitch''. In a weird way it really disturbed me a lot.

''Can you help me take her down?'' I asked Daryl trying to figure a way to lay this thing down.

''It don't matter, she's dead'' He responded.

''It does matter'' I replied, both of us making eye contact before he got up, throwing a blanket over her covering her up.

We walked down the hallway still in search of Beths booze. I jumped up at the sound of the clock making us all turn around. I took a deep breath following them behind.

We all took a turn right only to be greeted by walkers. ''Go, go''

He grabbed my hand, as we ran straight down the hallway and it lead us inside a room. The sound of the growls came closer as I looked back at the 2 walkers that came in. Daryl lifted up his crossbow shooting one of them, and pushing one of them against the cabinet. Hitting one of them in the head with a gold stick and shoving one straight in the eye. The last one came as I saw him push it down and hit it over and over again making me jump when he suddenly killing it all the blood splattering on Beth. He gasped, dropping the golf stick down and making his way out.

''We made it'' She said smiling at both of us when we arrived at a fucked up looking bar ''I know you both think this is stupid and it probably is but I don't care. All I wanted to do today was lay down and cry, but we don't get to do that. So beat up on walkers if that makes you feel better. I need to do this''

''Knock yourself out'' I told her sarcastically making my way over to one of the chairs and taking a seat.

''You had your drink yet?'' Daryl asked folding in the piece of paper from the glass frame.

''No but I found this. Peach schnapps, is it good?'' She questioned.

''No'' Both Daryl and I said in sync making my cheeks go red when he looked at me.

I fiddled with my finger frowning my thoughts going back to the group. I'm mostly worried about Carl, the anyone else. Worried about all of them but what if he was alone and didn't have anyone with him. I'm praying that's not the case and I'm praying everyone is okay.

My thoughts got cut off when I heard crying and a glass shatter ''Aint gonna have your first drink be no damned peach schnapps, cmon'' Daryl commented walking out of the door. I got up feeling tired already, here we go another journey for that stupid booze.

''That's a real drink first drink right there'' Daryl said pouring her some moonshine. We are currently in a warehouse type of place that him and Michonne found a while back, that had alcohol in it.

''Whats wrong'' I question noticing an odd look on her face.

''Nothing, it's just my dad always said bad moonshine can make you go blind'' She answered fiddling with the cup.

''Aint nothing worth seeing out there anymore anyway'' Daryl noted making me frown realizing how true that statement is.

''That's the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted'' She chuckled as she took another gulp ''Second rounds better''

''Slow down'' Daryl warned her his eyes moved towards me as I sat back on the couch my knees reaching up to my chest.

''This one is for you'' She offered.

''Nah im good'' He declined, his eyes going back and forth towards me and the door.

''Why'' she curiously questioned.

''I have to keep watch'' He answered checking outside for any walkers.

''What you're like my chaperone now?'' She giggled taking another sip.

''Just drink lots of water'' He said making his way over to me ''You good?''

''Tired that's all'' I mumbled making him nod, out head turning hearing walkers growls.

''Its one of em'' Daryl announced.

''Should we get it?'' I asked making him shrug.

''If he makes too much noise we'll get him''

''We'll if we're are gonna be trapped again we might as well make the best of it, unless you're too busy chaperoning Mr. Dixon'' Beth comment handing us both a drink making me look down at it.

Daryl came sat down with me in the same chair taking a gulp ''Might as well make the best of it''

''So first I say something I've never done and if you have done it, you drink and if you haven't I drink then we switch, you really dont know this game?'' Beth explained the game to Daryl as I sat down beside him indian style. I decided i'd join this 'would you rather' drinking game but not drink too much since my chest gets worse if I drink TOO much.

''I never needed a game to get lit before'' I chuckled at Daryl's comment as Beth looked at him confused.

''Wait we startin?'' She asked looking at both of us.

''How do you know this game if you never had a drink before?'' I asked making her bite her lip.

''My friends played and I watched. Anyways i'll start, I've never shot a crossbow so now you drink''

''Aint much of a game'' He said taking a shot.

''Your turn''

''Ive never been out of Georgia'' Both Beth and I took a shot.

''I've never been drunk and did something I regretted'' I asked making Daryl look at me as both of us took a shot.

''I've never been on vacation'' He asked looking down.

''What about camping?'' She question holding on to her drink.

''No something I had to learn to hunt'' He responded.

''Did your dad teach you?'' My voice stayed low as we made eye contact.

''Mhmm'' I looked at him fiddling with my hand sensing that his dad was someone he didn't like to bring up.

''I've never been in jail'' Beth suddenly said making Daryl's head shoot up ''I mean as a prisoner''

''Is that what you think of me?'' He mumbled harshly looking as her making me chew the inside of my mouth knowing this isn't going to end well.

''I didn't mean anything serious, I just thought, you know like the drunk tank. Even my dad got locked up for that back in the day'' She smiled towards him but he wasn't having it.

''Drink up'' He ordered.

''Wait prison guard, were you a prison guard before?'' I looked at me biting my lip hard knowing that this is 100 percent isn't going to end well.

''No'' He said with zero emotion just glaring at her.

''Its your turn again''

''Imma take a piss'' He mumbled getting up, dropping his glass making it shatter and pulling his pants down.

''Daryl we have to be quiet'' I warned him getting up with Beth by my side.

''Can't hear you im taking a piss'' He yelled making me panic.

''Daryl shut up'' I said hearing footsteps.

''Daryl don't have do loud'' Beth mumbled looking over him.

''What you both my chaperone now?'' He asked making us both silent.

''Oh wait it's my turn, I never ugh eaten frozen yogurt, never had a pet pony, didn't get nothing from santa callus, never relayed on anyone for protection before, never been fucking engaged, never relayed on anyone for anything'' He yelled hitting the chair the last three things hinting towards me making me back away.

''Daryl'' I touched his arm hoping he would calm down, but he shook it off.

''Never sung out in front of a big group out in public like everything was fun, like everything was a big game. I sure as hell never cut my wrist looking for attention'' He screamed making me hug myself. We heard banging on the door and growls ''Sounds like our friend out there is trying to call all of his buddies''

''Daryl just shut up'' I whispered confidently but cowardly backed away when he came close.

''Hey you never shot a crossbow before and always wanted too aint it? imma teach you right now'' Daryl pointed at me and walked over grabbing my wrist, kicking the door open and leading us outside.

''Daryl lets stay inside'' Beth said from behind us.

''Oww Daryl'' I flinched as he pulled me towards him.

''Come here dumbass'' He growled shooting the walker in the stomach pinning him on the tree.

''You want to shoot?'' He questioned reloading his crossbow.

''I don't know how'' I answer my voice shaking.

''Its easy come here'' He grabbed me pulling me in his chest and firing.

''Lets practice later'' I said look at him and the walker.

''Come here'' He mumbled hugging me again from the back and shooting the walker missing every time.

''Just kill it'' I exclaimed looking at him.

''Lets pull these out babe, get some target practice'' He said walker over to the walker. I ran pulling my knife out stabbing the walker in its head.

''What did you do that we were having fun'' His voice was harsh as he looked at me.

''No you're being a jackass, if anyone found Hershel-''

''-Don't that aint remotely the same'' He said getting into my face myself backing away.

''Killing them is not supposed to be fun'' I stated trying to look him in the eyes.

''What do you want more from me girl huh? protection what?'' He screamed getting into my face.

''I want you to stop acting like you don't give a crap about anything, like nothing we went through mattered to you, like none of the people we lost meant anything to you. Ive survived till here and you're just acting this way because you're just afraid'' I said my voice cracking and lowering slowly backing away again. I hate yelling and I hate being yelled at.

''I aint afraid of nothing'' He said his voice getting softer but a little harsh.

''I remember when that little girl came out of the barn after my mom, you were like me. Now god forbid you ever let anybody get too close'' Beth voice echoed making Daryl look back at her.

''Too close huh? You know all about that. You lost two boyfriends and you didn't even shed a tear. Your whole family is gone all you can do is just go out looking for hooch like some dumb college bitch'' He spat towards Beth.

''Screw you, you don't get it'' Beth said.

''No you don't get it everyone we know is dead'' He yelled making my eyes glimpse in tears.

''You don't know what'' I said my voice cracking wiping away my tears.

''Might as well be, 'cause you aint never gonna see em again. Rick, Carl, Maggie'' He yelled getting close to me.

''Daryl just stop'' I whispered touching his arm but harshly moved it away.

''No! the governor rolled right up to our gates, maybe if I wouldn't have stopped looking. Maybe cause I gave up. That's on me.

''Daryl'' My voice softed coming closer to him.

''No. And Hershel maybe, maybe I could have done something'' I heard his voice crack and that's when I pulled him into a hug looking up watching tears fall down his cheeks making me hold on to him tighter resting my head on his back, giving him a kiss on his neck and just held him tight for a while. He's been here for me now I need to be there to him.

''Hey'' I heard a voice say making me look up as Daryl stepped out.

''Hey'' I smiled looking at the night sky, a little breeze hitting me every now and then ''I need to talk to you about something''

I breathed in trying to look him in the eyes and speak. I was nervous, this was harder than I thought it was.

''This is about this Jacob guy isn't it?'' He said making me nod and started fiddling with my fingers another habit I cant control.

''I was going to tell you that day on the farm but I couldn't I knew you'd be even more mad and I coward back and didn't tell you. Im sorry'' I stuttered and started fiddling with my finger making him rest his hands on top of mine making me stop.

''Look at me'' He said lifting my head up from my chin. I slowly looked up my eyes meeting his and I again found myself lost into his ocean eyes ''Im not going to let a stupid argument take you away from me''

''I love you Daryl'' I blurted out, my cheeks going red remembering what he had told me back in the prison and when I said that; I knew I meant every single words and all the feelings I had for him were genuine and real. He chuckled leaning in pressing his lips against mine, myself gladly kissing back. ''I love you too''

While I was outside, Daryl and Beth came out with this idea of leaving our past behind and moving forward. So we filled the house with the moonshine, and walked out.

''Wait'' I said stopping them both. I grabbed my backpack and took out a picture of me and Jacob. I stared at it one more time before putting the picture on the wooden floor and leaving. We took out match sticks and threw that in making the house light on fire.

We all stepped back gave the house that represents our house a middle finger. Daryl laced our hands together as we all turned around and left.

There are far far better things ahead of us than any we leave behind. Its time for us to leave the past behind and move forward and start a new chapter; all together, hand in hand
