《Breathe Princess (Daryl Dixon Love Story)》Chapter Thirty

"Mornin' Princess." Daryl laughed as I looked up from where I was laying in the bed.

We'd fallen asleep pretty late last night and considering it was incredibly early, I hadn't gotten that much sleep. To be honest, I didn't know exactly what the time was, but judging by how light it was outside but it was still relatively cool, it was early. "How's the wrist?" He asks, coming to sit beside me on the bed as I sit up, ducking my head a little to stop from hitting my head.

"Still hurts, I've had worse. I'll be okay." He nods his head and stands up again, pulling on his vest from where he'd left it last night.

"How's Herschel?" I ask, standing to rummage through some clothes to find a shirt that wasn't blood stained; easier said than done. I settled on an old blue vest top, some shorts and just threw my hair into a messy bun. My pistol settled nicely in the waistband of the shorts.

I was glad I had the gun and I was slowly getting better at using it, but at the minute it was still only just a precaution.

"He's good, Lori managed to save him yesterday." I nodded at his statement and took some of the pills from my bag, taking them dry. Considering water was scarce, I didn't want to waste any of it. "Hurry up, we're helpin' Rick." He turns to leave, kissing the top of my head as he goes and makes his way down stairs, hopefully meeting the others. I follow shortly.

Everyone had decided we were going to start moving around cars at the front of the prison, kind of like a barricade.

"Alright, let's get the other cars in, park 'em in the west entry of the yard." Rick held his hands on his hips, thinking out loud.

"Good, our vehicles camped out there look like a giant for vacancy sign." Daryl sighed, coming up next to me, his arm finding it's way around my waist to pull me closer to him. There was a part of me that was still a little pissed at him, but this was Daryl, and there was no way, with a face like that and an attitude like he has, that I was going to stay mad at him. I physically couldn't do it. I could see his point though. The cars up front was a signal to people that this place was empty, that no one was living here and they'd just abandoned the vehicles or turned in the prison; leaving the whole place subject to a take over.

"Where's Glenn and Maggie? We could use some help." Carol questioned, walking with the rest of us up the slight incline of the prison towards the main cell block gates.

"Up in the guard tower." I smile a little and nod my head to one of the towers. I knew they'd gone up there last night and hadn't come down again. I could see their point though. It was away from everyone else so they wouldn't have to be quiet.

"Guard tower? They were just up there last night." Rick questioned as everyone looked up.

"Well, they didn't come back down." I shrug, Daryl's arm moving from my waist to hanging over my shoulder where I placed my hand in his and leant into his side.

"Glenn! Maggie!" Daryl shouted up to them and I had to bite my lip to stop myself from laughing as Glenn emerged shirtless trying to do up his belt.

"Hey, what's up, guys?" Glenn asked nervously, I small squeak coming from me as my laugh escaped.

"You comin'?" Daryl yelled up, the entire group now laughing, Carol hid her smile behind her hand as I myself chose to bury my face into Daryl's side, trying to muffle the laughter.

"What?"

"You comin'? Come on, we could use a hand!" Daryl called up, everyone eventually killing their laughter to mere giggles and walked away.

"You're so mean to them." I laugh as we come to a stop.

"Should learn not to be so obvious about it." Daryl shrugged. I knew he as probably referring to the fact that he and I were incredibly inconspicuous.

I missed the banter people would give each other. Joking around like we currently were and teasing people about having sex. It was a brilliant feeling to be able to properly stand here and laugh again, but my laughter stopped a little as I caught Axel and Oscar standing by the main gate.

"Guys," I nod my head and they all look up, their smiles dropping too.

Turns out, the boys wanted to move somewhere other than the cell block they were currently living in. Not that I blamed them. Living with the bodies of not only dead people, but people that were your friends, possibly stood up for you against the hard asses. I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

Rick however, wanted to change

"You want them living in the cell next to you?" Rick turned to T-Dog, who was one of the ones who had actually agreed to letting the live with us. "You wanna go back to sleepin' with one eye open?"

"Rick, we're always sleeping with one eye open. We've been in this from the start. They won't know what they're doing out there," I protest, everyone looking at me. "We send them out there, even with provisions and we may as well just kill them ourselves. We're not those people."

Everyone looked a little shocked at what I was staying but it didn't stop me from carrying on.

"You took people in. You took me in and they all took you in. You're more of a threat than I am, so why can't we just give them the benefit of the doubt?" I didn't get an answer, everyone just walked back towards the front of the prison, leaving me standing a little exasperated. Did I want them living in the same place as me? No. But did I want them to have to handle walkers out in the world on their own and be the reason they died in the first place? No. So what choice did we have, really?
