《Breathe Princess (Daryl Dixon Love Story)》Chapter Twenty Two

When we'd gotten back from our little walk in the woods, I helped Daryl move our tent and things further away from the group.
I hadn't even thought about how he felt when Sophia had walked out of the barn. This was his heart that was hurting and here he was looking after me; as normal.
Now, Daryl wouldn't like to admit it to anyone, but he was attached to the rest of the group and obviously he was attached to me.
He had been injured whilst running out looking for Sophia, this little girl that was walking around had a small place in his heart and he was hurting almost as much as Carol was yet here I was, running out to the woods because of walkers. I hadn't even lost anything.
I didn't know how to make him feel better, I was so awful at doing things like that, but knowing Daryl, he wouldn't let me do anything.
Rick and Glenn had run after Herschel who had disappeared into town apparently, after his family had walked out of the barn and been shot. Beth? She wasn't doing so good. She was in her room being watched over by Maggie and Lori, having gone into shock after her Mom had walked out. My heart went out to her, it really did.
Speaking of Lori, I could hear her speaking to Daryl outside of the tent that I was currently attempting to organise. I swear, Daryl would never be able to find anything in here if it wasn't for me organising.
"Your bitch went window shoppin', you want him? Fetch him yourself, I got better things to do." Daryl spat, I knew why he was doing it, as much as he cared he didn't want to lose anyone else and I was with him on that one. I didn't want to lose the people that I had come to love, but then again; they were out there and here we were doing nothing about it.
"Daryl, you can't just let them go out on their own." I stood out of the tent, looking at both Daryl and Lori.
"What's the matter with you Daryl? Why would you be so selfish?" He was anything but selfish. Daryl was the most selfless person I'd met when this whole world went to shit and this is the thanks he was getting for it? I stood there and crossed my arms as they argued, not really wanting to get involved in their pissing contest.
"Selfish? Listen here Olive Oyl, I was out there looking for that girl every single day! I took an arrow and a bullet in the process so don't talk to me about getting' my hands dirty, you want the idiots, go yourself 'cause I'm done lookin' for people." Daryl sat back down, sharpening some stick I assumed he was going to turn into an arrow.
"Annora?" Lori turned to me and Daryl's head shot up.
"She ain't goin' nowhere, I ain't losin' her as well." Daryl defended for me but I tried to stand my ground. I was glad that he was sticking up for me and we both knew all too well that I wasn't going to be going anywhere. I can't even fire a gun, how the hell was I meant to go out looking for Rick and Glenn. I mean I knew they could handle themselves in this kind of world, but Lori was worried and if it was Daryl, I'd probably be shitting myself.
"And what if I want to go help?"

"No Annora, you ain't goin'." He glared at me and I looked back at Lori, sending her a quiet apology and sighed as she turned away.
"Daryl, if I wanted to go, I could go. I'm fast?" It was true, I was. I mean like I said I'm not exactly good at using a weapon, but I can run.
"Because, I've lost too many people, you can't kill walkers and I ain't gonna sit around here worrin' about your ass just 'cause you wanna go on some stupid man hunt to bring them back."
"I could still help." I shook my head and walked off to the farm house, completely ignoring him as he called after me. I can kill walkers, I'm just not very good at it.
I spent all of my time in the house. I didn't want to go back out there to Daryl, even after a short spell of cooling down. I didn't like the fact that he thought he could control me. Like I said, I'm not the best, but he can't control what I do.
I decided to let my anger, or whatever it was you want to call it, subside for now and help the others set up the table for dinner that night. It was still going to be awkward but it's the least I could do.
"They should've been back by now" I heard Andrea comment as both she and Shane walked into the room.
"Yeah, they just got holed up somewhere, We'll head out first thing in the morning." He reassured her as he sat down at the table. "Carl, I want you to keep your head up, Okay? Your old man, he's the toughest son of a -"
"No cussing in the house" Patricia quickly interrupted and I had to hold back my laugh; I was lucky she hadn't caught me swearing, I swore like a sailor when I wanted to.
"Lori, Dinner"
"She's not in there." Maggie spoke up from the end of the table and my stomach sinking in the process, could she have been that stupid to actually have gone after them alone? Although, she might actually have done.
"Where is she?" Dale asked, concern flooding pretty much the entire room.
"Carl, when's the last time you saw your mom?" Shane asked, turning his attention to the little boy who looked more worried than everyone else.
"This afternoon"
"She was worried about Rick, asked me to look in on Carl." Andrea looked around to everyone, now it was starting to sound more and more like she'd gone on her own.
"She went after them?" Dale asked, raising his eyebrows
"She didn't say that." Andrea clarified, but I knew better.
Shane had gotten up with a lot of the others, wiping his face and getting up, walking out the door with the others and telling people where they should look, I myself was told to check the barn with Shane to make sure that she wasn't there. I didn't have the balls to tell him I knew where she was. Shane was scary when he wanted to be and I didn't want to make him angry when I was out here on my own with him. Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that I knew about it.
"She's not at the barn," Shane spoke up as we all met in the middle of camp outside. I never got the chance to tell them what had happened earlier.
"I checked the yards," T-Dog ran up with Andrea.

"Well, where is she?" Carl asked, walking around like his dad which at any other point I would have found quite amusing.
"She asked Daryl to go into town, must have gone herself."
"Did you know about this?" Shane turned to Dale, no hesitation about him looking at me, that would have been my first assumption, actually that was Andrea's assumption, looking directly at me but t loked like she was biting her tongue about it.
"Dale didn't know, he wasn't there. Lori came up to Daryl and I, he refused to go with her and he stopped me from going, shot her down before she even had a chance to ask." I ran a hand over my face before they even had a chance to shout at Dale for something he didn't do.
"You let her go on her own?" Shane turned to me, anger spreading over his features and for once, I was glad Daryl wasn't here because I was pretty sure he'd have shot Shane for the look he was giving me.
"I thought she was going to come and ask one of you lot to go, I had no idea that she was going to go out or own looking for them." I shrugged, visibly cowering back. Like I said, he was scary when he wanted to be.
"Look, just, did she take a gun?" The anger fell from his face and was replaced with simple concern again.
"I don't know, I wouldn't let her go out there alone." Dale spoke up, the sentence seeming to be pointed at me, but I think that may have just been a simple statement; not that it made me feel any better about the whole ordeal.
Shane sighed and ran a hand over his buzz cut hair before running off towards his car and drove off in the direction of the town.
"I'm sorry I didn't-"
"We don't blame you, we don't blame Daryl either. You had no way of knowing she wouldn't come and talk to one of us." Dale reassured me and led a comforting hand on my shoulder, which I turned into a hug. I loved Dale, I knew I probably shouldn't because once you get attached in this world you are well and truly boned, but I couldn't help it. He was too much like a grandfather.
The more time had seemed to go on, the more I'd come to love the people at this stupid camp. They'd taken me in when we were in Atlanta and they'd managed to keep me safe this whole time, they'd become more like family to me now and that was something I was thankful for.
Our little conversation was cut short as Shane pulled up in the car and he and Lori climbed out.
"Oh God, you're okay." I smiled and ran up to Lori, pulling her into a hug "I'm sorry I didn't go." She smiled but then I noticed the cuts on her face. "Lori what the hell happened?"
"I was in an accident, I'm fine. I'm fine." She sent me a reassuring smile as I was pretty certain she could see the guilt that washed over me. "I really am, where's Rick?" Everyone shared a confused look with both her, Shane and everyone else who was stood around. "They're not back?" She sent the last look to me and I bit the inside of my lip, concerned again about who was going to yell at me next.
"Where are they?" Her next look was to Shane and considering I hadn't actually seen Lori lose her temper that much before, I was more than prepared to run back to Daryl and grovel.
"Look, I had to get you back here," Shane protested as she pointed to him.
"You asshole. He's my husband."
"Lori, I will go after him. I will find him." Shane looked like he was genuinely scared, which I think had been an actual first for me. Sure there had been times with walkers but I think those times he was just trying to look strong so no one would question him. "Hey! Now, look, first thing's first. I gotta- I gotta look after you. I make sure the baby's all right okay?"
"You're having a baby?" Carl stepped forwards, pushing the hat his dad had given him a little higher up so he could see. "Why didn't you tell me?" An uneasy silence fell on the group, partially because of how awkward the situation had now become and partially because half the group didn't even know she was pregnant.
"Come on, let's make sure you're all right." There goes Dale again, saving everybody's ass.
"You coming inside?" Andrea asked as they all walked away in different directions. I was taken back by her niceness, but I shrugged it off. She really was trying; I'll give her that one.
"No, I've gotta talk to Daryl, I need to apologize." She nodded her head and I smiled awkwardly, turning and walking into the woods, sending a goodnight to Carol as I passed her in the trees. "Daryl?" I called out as quietly as I could, knowing he wasn't going to be in the tent.
"What?" It's good to see someone's in a happy mood.
"Look, I came to say I was sorry for earlier, I know that you were just trying to stop me getting hurt." He didn't look up, he just kept poking at the fire. I sighed and leant against the nearest tree, crossing my arms. "Seriously Daryl I'm sorry. I've been acting crazy since the whole barn thing and I just, I just feel like people keep treating me like a kid." I signed and leant my head against the tree.
"I get it Annora, I can't lose someone else, I care about you too much to let you just go." He stood up and walked over to me, not really doing anything, just standing in front of me. "You're too important for me to lose you." He sighed and rested his hands on my hips and pulled me slightly closer just so our chests were touching.
"You're not gonna lose me Daryl." I looked up at him and smiled, his bright blue eyes flicking with the red from the fire as the flames danced in his water filled eyes. An almost smile was on his face and he lightly shook his head, leaning down and kissing me. It wasn't rough but it wasn't filled with passion like I'd expected it to be, he was being surprisingly light about it, pulling away too quickly for my liking and just let his hands drop to mine.
"You sleepin' here tonight?" He asked, almost hesitant.
"Well, I haven't got anywhere else to go." I smiled and dragged him into the tent by his hand so we could actually get some sleep in.
