《BEST FRIEND'S BROTHER || RM》8

When we finally arrived at the house I was the first to jump out of the car. I had no reason to wait for the three of them so I hurried inside and up to my bedroom.

I threw my bag down on the floor and flopped down on my bed. Soon enough I heard the footsteps of Y/n, Leah, and Ki Hyun as they all piled into Leah's bedroom.

Not really caring to hear them, I put in my headphones and grabbed the book off of my nightstand. The book was called Almond by Won-pyung Sohn.

That was the one thing about me I never really cared to let people in on. I was more then just some shallow dick, I was actually smarter then people gave me credit for.

One of my favorite things to do was read. Reading was probably one of my better hobbies. It was just nice to leave reality for a little to enter a new one.

Life was better that way.

I sat at Leah's desk as I watched her and Ki Hyun flirt back and forth with each other.

I definitely was starting to regret coming because now I was just a third wheel. I was awkwardly sitting here, basically being the barrier that stopped them from doing other things that was very obvious they wanted to do.

"I'm gonna go grab a snack." I say as I stand up and make my way to the door. Leah sends me a thumbs up as I exit the room.

I wasn't really going to get a snack I just figured they wanted some time alone and I didn't want to stand in the way of that.

Once I get downstairs I take a seat at the kitchen table. I didn't plan on going back up just yet so the plan was to sit here for a bit.

As I was sitting there I hear shuffling down the stairs before Namjoon appears in the kitchen, his face buried in a book.

The book was one I have read before. A very good book and good taste if I do say so myself.

"Enjoying it so far?" I ask, causing Namjoon to jump slightly as he swung his book down to look around.

Once he sees me he lets out a breath before closing the book. "What are you doing down here? Did they kick you out?" He asks, ignoring my question about the book.

"No I just wanted to give them some alone time." I say as I shift in my seat to face him.

"Oh." Is all Namjoon says. I pull in my lips as the room falls silent and the awkwardness sets in.

Not wanting to feel the awkward tension, I re asked my question. "So the book, are you liking it?"

Namjoon looked over at me before glancing down at the book. "Yeah, I love it actually. It isn't my first time reading it." He says with a small smile. He then continues with, "Have you read it?"

I smile. "I have. Multiple times."

"Really? I haven't met anyone else who has read it. It's amazing huh." He grins from ear to ear. In that moment I couldn't help but to notice, he was the same old Namjoon I had always known growing up.

He really was just hiding behind this phony exterior when in reality, he was still in there deep down.

"Really amazing. I didn't know you read honestly." I laugh and Namjoon too chuckles. "What did you think I do in my free time, flick babies?" I snorted at his response, my face heating as I did so.

Namjoon laughed at me before I saw him smile again. "I'm not as awful as Leah makes me out to be, ya know."

I tilt my head as I stare over at him, watching his facial expressions as he spoke.

"I know." I say, staring into his eyes. "You act like someone you're not, I never understood why. You're so much better then that, I don't get it..." Namjoon didn't say anything after that, his smile fading.

I pulled in my lips as I went to stand up. "I've known you since I was little. I know you're better then how you try to act. You may want to be seen as a bad guy, but I know how you really are." I say.

Once again Namjoon doesn't say anything. I pull in my bottom lip as I head towards the stairs, leaving Namjoon in the kitchen to reflect on what I had just said.

As much as he didn't want to believe it, it was true. Deep down he knew I was right. He acted like someone he wasn't and why, I didn't know.

He was a lot nicer then he gave himself credit for and that, what just one of the many reasons I like him.

"You act like someone you're not, I never understood why. You're so much better then that, I don't get it..." Y/n says, her eyes on me. When I don't say anything she stands up then speaks again. "I've known you since I was little. I know you're better then how you try to act. You may want to be seen as a bad guy, but I know how you really are."

Her words bounced around in my head as she disappeared from the kitchen.

Although her saying that catch me by surprise, I knew she was right. Oddly enough, I was glad. I hadn't expected her to think of me so highly when all I had ever done was be a cocky bastard towards her.

Even after all of that, she still saw me for who I really was. She didn't fall for my asshole exterior but instead saw me for who I was on the inside.

Looking back in the direction she had left from, I let out a sigh.

Y/n had always been my sister's annoying best friend but it seems now,

She becoming more then that.
