《The Shinto Gods Series: The Imperial Seal(On Hiatus)》13-A Fox Can Actually Become A Pretty Good Businesswoman

it weren't for the abundance of fox-themed stuff, I never would have guessed that Ms. Fox is a fan for foxes.
Sarcasm aside, after a long ride inside the elevator with elevator music that I guessed was supposed to make me relax, the robotic woman led me across an extravagant hallway. The width was the same as the length of three long tables put together. The same species of potted plants were placed at each wall, almost like the the other wall was mirroring the other. The walls were ridiculously shiny, reflecting my image like water. The floor was carpeted with a beautiful shade of red.
I squinted my eyes. "I could barely see the door from here."
The woman nudged me, signalling to go forward. My footfalls were muffled thanks to the carpet floor which added more to the uneasiness churning restlessly in me. It almost seemed like the door was taunting me at the distance. Neither of us said anything, which made me feel better. I never was good with words, only saying words that Loraine said I am supposed to. Or let her do the talking which normally led to a verbal fight.
After suffering inside, we've finally reached the double doors. They were a rich wood. Redwood probably with silver French-curve handles on each one.
The woman knocked on the door. "Ms. Fox? She is here to see you."
She didn't even wait for a response as she pushed the doors opened and the sound of someone talking was heard.
But I must say that the office was eye-pleasing. The shiny, dark brown floor blended well with the cream-colored walls that reminded me of coffee. Situated on my left was a lounge with a white sofa with two white armchairs facing a fireplace with a glass coffee table between them. On my right was a fancy bar with various bottles of alcohol and the like with martini and shot glasses displayed on a rack attached to the wall. Descending a few steps, a lonely, redwood desk was situated at the center with a black leather office chair. A figure was standing next to it, looking like she was talking on a phone.

"... And that concludes my end of the deal. So if you have any objections, you can kiss that fancy factory of yours goodbye." She turned and her face made my breathing hitch.
She was drop-dead gorgeous. Black hair tied to a neat bun with a few strands framing her face. Her eyes were a rich, amber color and her lips were painted with a light shade of red. Her skin was absolutely flawless and her white cardigan with a grey button-up underneath with a grey pencil skirt made her look powerful. Her entire being made me realize why her name is Ms. Fox. Everything about her screams cunningness and beauty.
The robot bowed in a perfect 45-degree angle. "Ms. Fox, I have brought Ms. Fujiwara."
The woman nodded. "I can see that. Please, Fujiwara-san, have a seat."
I gasped when I felt something behind my knees and I felt soft leather. The robot silently pulled a chair from the lounge and pushed it up my knees.
"Are... Are we in trouble, Miss...?" I asked quietly. I would've asked if she was going to send me back to Loraine but I worried more about the twins.
She took her seat behind the desk and leaned back. "Far from it actually. She then leaned forward and propped her chin on her intertwined hands. "Tell me, Fujiwara-san... what do you think of foxes."
I noticed it was more of a statement than a question. "What I really think or what Zootopia taught me?"
Her face showed no emotion.
"Right right." I muttered. "Foxes... are cunning. They know how to trick people. And are a heavy influence for that one song."
Ms. Fox tapped her well-manicured nails on the desk. "While it is true that foxes are cunning, they don't trick people. They only present things that follow two rules." She stood up and walked along the desk, her nails scraping the desk which made me nervous. "One, they only present what is proven right."
I held back a gasp when her nails punctured the leather right next to my neck. "It's actually the victim's fault that they should either accept or deny the foxes' deals."

I blurted out the word before I could register it. "Inari?"
She retracted her hand. "So you know who I am. Good. It makes things much easier for me." She went back to her seat and propped her hands in the usual position. "And do you know what I think of humans, child of Ryujin?"
I subconsciously licked my canines that were beginning to get sharper. I shook my my head no, not trusting my voice.
"Predictable. When faced in a dilemma, they would always choose the easy way out no matter what comes in store. They kill what they don't know and hide from what they fear."
I wanted to say most humans aren't like that but that trope was used like a million years ago.
"People like you are a rare case. Taking in everything that life throws at them rather than shooting it down." Her eyes glinted. "Now... what do you think of me?"
I immediately answered. "A woman that always gets what she wants?"
The corners of her lips tilted up, making me envious of how little she does to to look sexy. "I get what I want, but a woman?"
Then in the next moment, her hair began to get shorter, her skin getting tanner, and her build getting bigger. The make-up was no longer present in her face. Should I even keep calling Inari 'her'?
"Surely you should know there are androgynous kami, don't you?" He said with mirth. He still has the same amber eyes but he now sports auburn hair gelled behind his head with a few grey hair strands as well as his growing stubble. His suit was an expensive brand-I think-that was a dark shade of blue.
And holy cheese on crackers he looked hot.
His expression turned serious, however. "I am the kami of world success and other things that I won't dwell on. I run this business by merely giving ideas to my clients." He stood up and grabbed something from his drawer. "Business isn't really that hard once you realize the fact that people only have one thing on their mind: getting more powerful."
He tossed a silver object to my lap. "Success can come in many forms, Fujiwara-san. Find it."
I took a look at the thing he threw at me. It was a silver brooch of a fox. Its body curved like an upside down U with the legs and tail pointed at the middle.
"It's not made of silver if that's what you're thinking." His-their-voice brought me back. "That's Inari Inggot. A special metal made by Inari Corp. Keep it to protect you or something."
"Gee, that's helpful." I muttered.
"Listen closely, Fujiwara-san." I looked at Inari whose face turned serious all of a sudden. "You're right about the camp being in Portland. It's because Portland has strong ties with our motherland that we decided to become recluse and shut up about it."
Now that got my interest. "Why?"
"That's for you to find out." They clapped my shoulder which made me tense up. "Just know that some of the kami are going to stop you. At least when it's the 3rd of May. That's when things will go awry." He then looked at the robotic woman. "Marcy, escort Fujiwara-san back to her friends."
Marcy bowed and placed her palm on my back again. She led me to the door and gripped the handle but stopped when I said something to Inari.
"Why did you change genders? Aren't androgynous gods supposed to stay the image people thought them to be?"
He grinned widely, the crinkles beside his eyes showing. "Didn't I tell you? Success can come in many forms. I just change to an image that my clients will view as a perfect image for success. Though it is tedious, humans always go for what they believe to be the right person."
Marcy opened the door and led me outside, not before hearing the parting words from Inari.
"Tell that father of yours to get his life straight."

Witnesses say that the angels blaze appeared back in the eighties. A dazzling light ripped through the sky all across the world. People say they saw a rainbow of colors bathing the sky. It was gone in a instant. Some legends say that it was an angel falling from the sky. But most scholars agree that it was a rare comet. They all were wrong. The light was a breaking of the veil, the veil to my world. Now creatures from my side of the veil are breaking through and it's my job to keep them back and protect all the humans. But I tend to like to watch the chaos.

8 80Cutting to Life: an NPC LitRPG (Battle Royale)
Nikola is an NPC in The World of Wills, a video game where players can feel sensations as if they were truly there. She leads a life of bloodshed and murder - that is, until one day she wakes up sapient. Just as she begins thinking real, non-scripted thoughts and making connections, she and the players in the game are told that if they die in the game, they die in real life - and it's time to get killing. But what of Nikola, the emerging AI consciousness? How does she win in a game that can only end in her being wiped from existence at the end of it all? - Updates Mondays and Fridays. Cutting to Life is a slow-burn LitRPG with a villainous (later anti-hero, or maybe still villainous, haha) female lead. It's told from the perspective of Nikola, an NPC within the World of Wills who's become sapient and is now mysteriously able to play the game as a PC. It's quite light for a LitRPG, but the system and stats become more of a focus later when Nikola herself can access them. The story gradually builds into a Battle Royale where the players' lives are on the line (if you die in the game, you die in real life), and only one party of savvy adventurers can win. They'll have to spend their time and stats wisely as dungeons promising rare gear float down from the sky - but is a legendary sword worth killing someone for, knowing they'll stay dead forever? - This story is told in third person, past tense.- This is a slow-burn LitRPG that spends a lot of time establishing its setting and characters, because I believe this will make for a better payoff in the end. As such, the Battle Royale doesn't start until chapter 30 or so.- Chapters are anywhere between 800 words and 3000 words long.- Book cover by Vixeona.Cutting to Life is also being posted on SPB and Scribble Hub.Thank you sincerely for reading.
