CHAPTER THIRTEEN; 13

"Faster?"

"Much faster!"

Sage pressed down on the gas pedal, making the two boys go flying back in their seats. She had a long fight about whether or not Scott or herself would be the one behind the wheel of Derek's car. She pleaded her case with the factor that she had driven the Camaro before and had yet to crash while Scott was still riding his bicycle everywhere.

The reason the three of them, Stiles being in the passenger's seat acting as her lovely instructor of yelling at her to go faster, were being chased down by Kate Argent. Kate was two things: Derek's psychotic, werewolf killing ex and Allison's aunt; and intimidating, but that was inevitable.

"Slow down!" Scott shouted from the back, his stomach practically lodged in his throat at this point with how the blonde was recklessly driving.

Sage looked up at the rear view mirror, giving Scott a murderous stare as he tried to critique her driving when she was the one keeping him from dying. Besides, she'd rather die in a car accident that by a hunter's bullet crammed in between her rib cage and her heart.

"Do you even understand what a car chase means, Scott? Slowing down is bad. Speeding up? It's good. The ultimate goal is to not get caught by the hunters that have weapons of mass destruction in their trunk!" Sage yelled, swerving to the right when she almost went head on into a stop sign. "Yeah, sorry but this car isn't stopping anytime soon."

"If you go any faster, you're going to kill us."

Stiles twisted around in his seat to face Scott. "If she doesn't go any faster, they're going to kill us!"

Sage groaned and gripped the steering wheel tighter. She was really getting tired of cleaning up Derek's messes. Just when she was going to speed up, she noticed that Kate's car had stopped behind her, taking a turn and disappearing from the site. Sage snapped her head over to Stiles, the two of them staring at each other in uncertainty. There was only one reason why Kate would stop.

Stiles yanked the police scanner up from the dashboard, fumbling with the button that turns it on. "Subject is on foot, heading into the iron work."

Sage whined before starting the car again. "I hate him. I really do."

It didn't take long for them to get to the iron work, Sage expertly driving through the machinery and managing to stop by Derek. He still had a bit of a way to run, but she figured he deserved that much after hypothetically almost killing her.

Gunshots started to ring through the air and Sage leaned over the steering wheel to see that it was none other than the other murderous, werewolf killing, crazy Argent. Chris got a few good shots at the Camaro, but nothing that would hurt them. Derek got in the car, slamming the door shut while Stiles was still trying to climb in the back.

"Go!" Derek snarled at her, his nails digging into the leather of the seat as he stared at the blonde that was next to him.

Sage sucked in a breath of air to try and calm her utterly homicidal thoughts towards him. "What part of laying low don't you understand?"

"Damn it, I had him!" Derek hissed, shaking as he slammed his hands onto the dashboard.

Stiles popped his head out from the back seat, placing it in between the two of them. "What? The alpha?"

"Yes! He was right in front of me and then the freaking police showed up!"

Stiles jerked his head back, somewhat offended at the way the werewolf was talking indirectly about his father and the people that he worked with. "They're just doing their jobs."

"Yeah, thanks to someone who decided to make me the most wanted fugitive in the entire state!" Derek snarked, glaring at Scott so intensely Stiles was surprised he hadn't dropped dead. Sage knew Derek had a point, Scott had basically screwed over Derek in more than one way.

"Can we please move past that? I made a dumb ass mistake, I get it. Sage forgave me!" Scott opted, throwing her under the bus considering he knew that all of the blonde's actions were reflected through to Derek.

Sage, once again, found herself glaring at Scott. "I only did that because I knew I had to. I'm still pissed at you."

"Okay!" Stiles shouted, breaking all the tension in the car as he grew even more aggitated about the fact no one was able to give appropriate apologies. Directing his attention to Derek, he asked, "How did you find him?"

She glanced over to see that Derek had turned his head, ignoring the question. She scoffed, and took one hand off the wheel to throw a punch at his shoulder. He growled under his breath, and she rolled her eyes at his downright childish actions.

Now she was pissed.

"You need to start trusting us," Scott demanded, one hand gripping the shoulder of Sage's seat.

"Okay, look, the last time I talked to my sister she was close to figuring something out. She found two things. The first was a guy named Harris—"

"Our chemistry teacher?" Stiles interrupted, completely baffled.

"When did you talk to Laura?" Sage questioned, her eyes narrowing as she glanced over at him for a split second, her attention away from the road and on the older man that mentioned the whole reason they came back to Beacon Hills.

"What does he have to do with it?" Scott asked too, all of them speaking at the same time, making their words jumble together, completely turning the questions incomprehensible.

"I don't know," Derek openly admitted.

Sage wondered who it was directed to though because it clearly wasn't her. He hadn't spoken with her about anything involving Laura since her death and to know that he was hiding stuff was beginning to make her feel like she couldn't trust him

"Then, what's the second?"

Derek pulled a piece of paper out of his jacket pocket, opening it to show all of them. Sage glanced over, and let out a deep breath the same time as Scott did, both of them equally sharing a look of realization. The drawing was too eerie familiar for them not to react that way.

Derek saw their faces and raised his eyebrows. "What? Do you two know what this is?"

"We've seen it on a necklace," Scott revealed, his chest tightening as he felt his throat begin to burn at the revelation.

Sage's hands tightened on the steering wheel, shifting around uncomfortably in her seat when she realized that someone she didn't want involved in all of this was. "Allison's necklace."

The next morning at school Sage was pulled aside by Stiles and Scott, going over the basics about how she needed to try and retrieve Allison's necklace. Basically, her having boobs made her the one that had to get it. Scott would be the back-up plan, still trying to get back together with Allison slowly but surely, and if he got the opportunity, he would try to get the piece of jewelry himself. Sage thought the whole plan would go crumbling and they would face the grueling aftermath, but who knows, maybe they'll end up lucky for once in their lives.

"I've got to get to class. I'll see you two at lunch," Scott announced, waving goodbye before jogging in the opposite direction of them when he realized that there was no way for him to get from his current position all the way to the other side of the school without leaving then.

Sage sent him a half-hearted smile, watching as he left before whipping head around to face Stiles. He opened his mouth to speak but quickly closed it, his face beginning to heat up when he realized that he didn't know what he could say. The two of them hadn't spoken about the kiss in the car since it happened. Sage was absolutely open to speaking about the situation, it's Stiles that would get all awkward and run away from her.

She frowned, grabbing a fistful of his plaid shirt before tugging him into the empty classroom that was right next to them. His back slammed against the door, eyes wide as he glanced down at the small blonde that was giving him a grin.

"Wha—"

Like she had done last time, Sage cut him off by kissing him. This time she wasn't being potentially sliced in half by a seat belt so she could move around more freely. The new-found freedom also meant that Stiles had more options over where he put his hands. He still hesitated before he kissed her, just like he had done before, although he seemed to catch on rather quickly what he could now do when it came to her lips.

One of his hands was positioned on her waist, his thumb running across the lining of her shorts while his other cupped her cheek. Stiles leaned into her even more, completely forgetting that they were missing first period as his teeth tugged on her swollen lips. His nails were digging deep into her hipbones, the two grinding sides.

When Sage pulled away for air, she moved Stiles even closer to her, pressing their bodies tightly together. He was still taller than her, and she had to stand on the tip of her toes just to reach his mouth, but she didn't mind at this point. All she cared about was kissing him, touching him and knowing that he was there.

His fingers slyly raised up an inch of her shirt, and she felt his thumb on her bare skin, sending shivers down her spine. A small smile tugged on her face through their collided lips, the blonde's hands moving to lay over his.

Pulling away, Sage grinned at him. "Already moving to second base?"

Stiles' eyes widened and he grew flustered, pulling his hands away from her as he gave a breathless laugh back. "Uh, um. No. Of course no— what?"

"Stiles," she began, grabbing a hold of his hands to put them back on her waist. "It's okay. Seriously, I'm just messing with you. Besides, if I didn't want you touching my waist, I would have asked you to stop." Leaning forward, her lips just inches from his, she whispered out, "And did l ask you to stop?"

She went to kiss him when the final bell rang, signaling that they were now officially late to class. Stiles sighed and leaned his head back, hitting it up against the door. "We need to get to class. My dad will have my ass if he finds out I'm late again."

"Can't have the Sheriff thinking I'm a bad influence," Sage agreed, flashing him a smile as she picked up her abandoned backpack. "Even though we both know it's true."

She gave him a quick kiss on his cheek before opening the door and leaving. As soon as she got away from Stiles, she realized her heart was beating a mile a minute. She hadn't expected for them to kiss again any time soon. She figured she'd either be dead or he'd be chasing after Lydia. She didn't think he actually liked her enough to seek out a relationship, or a something.

Sage was worried that he would lose feelings for her and return to his obsession over Lydia. She couldn't compete with a girl he's been in love with since third grade. She was just a girl that came back after her family died. Lydia was always there, figuratively speaking. The redhead may not have expressed feelings for Stiles but she was still there. Sage was just the back-up plan and she wasn't sure if she could handle heartbreak.

Not again.

"How the hell did he find out?"

"I have no idea."

Jackson Whittemore, also known as the person most suspicious about what was really going on in Beacon Hills, happened to corner Scott earlier and overall, outed the fact that he knew what was going on in the town. Now, you can imagine the looks of both Sage and Stiles' faces when the werewolf revealed this to them, it mirroring an image of horrification and fury.

"Oh, I am so dead," the blonde whined out, running her hand over her face.

Sage interrupted the conversation with her complaint about her impending death, knowing Derek will blame her for the whole thing and she will be inevitably screwed. Both boys looked at her for a second, processing her words before turning back to their own conversation that apparently didn't include her.

Her, as in the girl that lives with a werewolf.

"Did he say it out loud? The word?" Stiles asked, raising his eyebrows. Sage squeezed in between the two, making sure they were aware she actually existed.

"What word?" Scott wondered.

Sage gaped at him, wondering if he was so oblivious to what was going on with him, or if he was actually the blonde in this situation. The girl was so absolutely baffled that she opened her mouth, trying to figure out what she could say before opting on just two words that defined Scott McCall in the best way possible.

"Werewolf, dumbass," she deadpanned, raising her eyebrows.

Scott spun around, acting as if she just openly admitted to killing someone and stashing their body in the school's dumpster rather than just saying werewolf. It wasn't like she said he was one. The nerds they passed could just think she was talking about Jacob Black or Tyler Lockwood, raving about a television show or movie werewolf instead of a real one.

"Did he say that?" Stiles added, rolling his eyes as he maneuvered down the hallway, leaning into the Sage in order to get out of a senior's way.

"No but he implied it pretty freaking clearly," Scott exclaimed, still stressed over someone else finding out what happened to him the night before sophomore year started.

"Okay, maybe it's not a bad thing. I mean he doesn't have any proof, right? And if he wanted to tell someone, who's going to believe him anyway?" Stiles wondered, trying to assure his friend that he didn't have much to worry about.

Sage looked up at him, completely dumbfounded. "How about Allison's dad?"

"Okay," Stiles admitted, frowning deeply when the blonde stated one of the many scenarios that could happen about this growing problem. "This is bad."

"I need a cure, like, right now." Scott complained, his chest heaving.

Sage heard a freshman whistle to her, and she wasted no time bringing out her lovely, manicured middle finger. It had been a frequent action done ever since she came, almost like the boys were trying to get someone that they knew they couldn't have. The hint of a smile on Stiles' face did not go unnoticed by her either.

"Does he even know about Allison's father?" Stiles asked, going back to the question at hand when his attention left the freshman that called out Sage.

"I highly doubt that," Sage reassured, looking between the two. "Jackson may have figured this out, but he's not that smart. The only way he'd know about Allison's family secret is if they told him themselves, and I don't see why they would."

"Where's Derek?" Stiles asked, looking directly at her this time.

She quirked an eyebrow at him. "Hiding like we told him to. Why?"

Stiles stopped both of them, placing a hand on their shoulders with a unsure expression on his face. "Because, I think I have a plan. It's going to take a little time, finesse, and Sage."

"But we have that game tonight, and it's quarter finals. Plus, it's your first game!" Scott protested.

Sage looked up in surprise. He hadn't told her that he would be playing tonight. Although, there wasn't really any time with them making out and trying to save Scott from killing someone. She would have still liked to know, especially since it was a big deal for the teenage boy considering he hasn't played at all since he joined the team.

Stiles seemed to wince at the reminder. "I know. I know. Do you have a plan for Allison yet?"

"She's in my next class," Scott said, jabbing his thumb in the direction of the room.

Stiles nodded. "Get the necklace."

Stiles left after that, grabbing hold of Sage's wrist so that they could get to their next class considering they both had already been late for one today. She trampled along, stumbling in her heeled boots as she wondered when exactly the boy was going to tell her.

"So when were you going to tell me?" she asked, her wrist falling to her side as she stuck her hands deep into the pockets of her leather jacket.

Stiles didn't bother looking back. "Tell you what?"

"You know what, Stilinski."

"I have no idea what you're talking about," Stiles played off, stepping in the class and taking a seat down in Mr. Anderson's class.

She took her usual seat behind him, but tugged on the hood of his jacket to whisper in his ear. "You know exactly what I'm talking about."

Sage ended up in the girl's bathroom right before school ended, and was surprised when the first thing she heard was someone crying. At first she thought it was some freshman breaking down over breaking a nail but when she saw a familiar pair of shoes at the bottom of the stall, she quickly knocked on the door.

"Go away!" Lydia's voice wailed, cracking at the very end. Sage winced and knocked once again. "I said go away!"

"Lydia, open the door. It's me," Sage said, stepping back and waiting for Lydia to do as told.

After a few seconds, the door to the stall was nudged opened and Lydia stood in front of her, toilet paper hanging in her hands and black smudges under her eyes. Sage felt her heart break looking at her. She may not be a completely sympathetic person but she wasn't just going to let Lydia cry alone, or at all for that matter.

"Hey, hey, what happened?"

"He— he broke..he— over a text!" Lydia blubbered, the tears resurfacing.

Sage quickly wrapped the girl in her arms, leaning her head on Lydia's while the redhead broke down, bawling into her shirt. Sage didn't have the heart to tell her that she was ruining the white tee shirt Sage was wearing. She just allowed the girl to cry, slowing rocking her back and forth.

After a few minutes, Lydia managed to calm down, but tears were still slowly streaming down her face. Sage let go of her but kept her hands on the girl's shoulders. "Do you want to tell me? You don't have to if you don't want to."

Lydia slowly moved over to the wall of the bathroom, sliding down to sit on the floor. Sage followed after her, going down rather ungracefully, her butt hitting the tiles with a loud 'thump'. She saw Lydia crack a small smile and wipe her eyes with the toilet paper, giving a small laugh.

"He broke up with me over a text."

Sage clenched her jaw, digging her nails into her palms. "I'm going to kill that asshat."

"It's just... I don't know. I thought we were getting better. I thought things were getting better between us and then—" Lydia made a movement with her hands that resembled an explosion "—poof."
