《The Devil I Love | Jikook Smut |》Chapter 42: Something Amiss

"I didn't know higher-ups in the industry get involved with the idols instead of the managers... but what do I know? Maybe I might be overthinking this..." Jungkook thought in his head. Not daring to touch Jimin's phone at all but only staring at it silently. It wasn't until then a chill raced down his spine just recalling the many messages that were left behind by the Director. Was this how business truly worked in Jimin's entertainment? The young man couldn't tell.
"I guess I shouldn't think about it too much... Jimin is the most famous and loved person there is and I would panic if he went missing too. They must be losing their heads looking for him!" Jungkook thought. Brushing away the idea of the many calls Jimin was receiving. However, he did keep in mind that the Director himself was the only one blowing Jimin's phone up at the moment.
Jungkook sat over the bed and kept looking at the phone as it turned off but then would turn on and flash the same caller ID repeatedly. Was this normal? Jungkook shook his head and tried to forget about it while he laid right beside Jimin and held his hand. When he closed his eyes; laying right by Jimin and only keeping one hand in contact with him, Jimin's hand tightened along Jungkook's and intertwined his fingers with his in return as he was sleeping.
"In his sleep, he still tries to distract me..." Jungkook thought and gawked at the small hand he held within his own. "Is he trying to distract me? or is he clinging onto me like always? I'll never be able to tell what goes on in that mind... that beautiful, pitiful, mind of his..."
After laying with Jimin for a while longer, Jimin did wake up and clung onto Jungkook. Holding him tightly in his arms while the smile on his face was the rawest smile he could ever feel on a day he should be working. To Jungkook, he enjoyed the feeling of Jimin wrapping his arms around him followed by innocent giggles that escaped his lips even when Jimin tried his best to suppress them. However, the young man couldn't help but to ponder the idea that Jimin had the tendency to avoid many things, even the angelic side he shows to the world.
Once the sun set and after another meal Jimin prepared for the two, Jimin wore the clothes Jungkook gave him. He looked at himself in the mirror, observing the way the waistband of the joggers hugged his hips, the oversized sweater covering his torso completely and a black bucket hat to match with the black style he wore. Jimin looked at himself in the mirror and smiled to himself before tucking his light blond hair into the hat.
"If I knew your clothes did a better job at hiding my looks, I would have raided your wardrobe a while ago!" Jimin spoke into a smile. Looking at Jungkook through the reflection of the mirror to see him sitting at the table. Wearing a loose sweatshirt over his underwear and scrolling through his laptop. "Jungkook~" Jimin whispered once more and caught his attention. "What are doing?"
"I'm... seeing all the good publicity the studio has been getting and looking into applications I've received. It's going to come in handy once I start working with you," Jungkook replied and continued to scroll through and read more feedback. "I still can't believe that the appointments for the next few weeks have been booked already... it all feels so unreal."

"Well, what do you expect? It's only going to get better from here," Jimin whispered softly as he walked behind Jungkook and gave him a hug. "To work with you again... I can't wait~"
"Don't try anything this time, I don't want to get caught..."
"You won't get caught, besides, I want to practice abstinence when it comes to you. Well... when it comes to work, I'll learn to be patient, but I won't be so innocent when we come back to the penthouse~" Jimin whispered into Jungkook's ear and hugged his body from behind the chair. "Just know, it's not so easy keeping myself from you."
"Really?" Jungkook asked sarcastically and looked down at Jimin's hands planted onto his chest to keep him in his arms. "I didn't seem to notice!"
"Don't play with me like this, Jungkook~" Jimin continued in his soft whisper as it dragged and caused his own voice to break into a raspy growl. "I don't want to leave..."
"I can tell you don't. Don't worry, I'll see you next week," Jungkook assured and continued to read the feedback when Jimin kissed the side of his neck once again. Causing him to turn red instantly.
"Will you miss me? I'll miss you so much..."
"I will miss you too, but this gives you a while to practice abstinence at a workplace~"
"Oh, but I've already been so far from you every week. I'm too busy... I think I might die if I don't have you here with me," Jimin cooed sweetly. Enjoying the way Jungkook would blush at every sound he whispered. "I'll be sure to send you many roses~"
"Jimin, I won't be here to tend to them, it's a waste of money," Jungkook replied and looked back to feel Jimin welcome him with his delicate lips pressing against his. "Mh... Jimin."
"You'll make me beg on my knees to stay the more you say my name like that... Ah, I just wish you could be at my penthouse by now," Jimin whispered before Jungkook held his hands carefully to intertwine with them once more. Causing Jimin to grow silent when Jungkook even kissed the backside of his fragile hand.
"You're being too clingy~" Jungkook teased and pressed his head back with just his face maintaining a red hue. "Do you need me to drop you off?"
"A-Ah...No, that won't be necessary. Namjoon will come find me," Jimin replied. Looking down at Jungkook staring into his eyes. The young man had his head tilted back as he stared at the man with a smile erupting from his bunny-like smile. Jimin was speechless and all he could think of at the time was Jungkook kissing his hand and showing him affection outside of sex. "Jungkook... Why do you enjoy holding hands with me?"
"Is it a crime?" Jungkook asked and continued to hold them carefully. "Is it a crime to offer you some affection and safety when we're not in bed together?" He continued to spew questions as Jimin raised a brow with a faint smile over his face. "We're friends too, Jimin... remember?"
"Yes, we are..." Jimin mentioned. Almost forgetting the relationship he had with Jungkook was developing further into something closer than just keeping their contact as a fling. He wanted to brush this away again, but Jungkook only managed to continue.

"I know we just became friends while we still hold onto our 'special' relationship...but I hope you can rely on me soon. Whenever you need to feel safe, I'm here. Just know that," Jungkook confessed and silenced Jimin's mind again. "Jimin..."
"Of course..." Jimin replied. Wanting to believe his words and smile in his arms. On the other hand, Jimin always found it difficult to trust someone. He had no control over himself whatsoever since a broken side of him would always kick away anything concerning the words trust or even love, far away from him in order to protect the broken pieces that still needed fixing from the past.
"Jimin, you were getting a lot of calls... have you checked them? Are you in trouble?" Jungkook found himself asking the concerning thoughts he kept in mind. Not wanting to force much on Jimin, but also let him know how concerned he was.
"No... no, it's nothing. Don't worry about it!" Jimin replied. A smile erupted from his angel-like features –despite his devilish behavior– and slowly kissed Jungkook on the lips with a gentle peck. "Just business, okay?"
"Okay..." Jungkook replied. Feeling as if he should stop here before he made Jimin uncomfortable. But he knew he did enough to make the thought of finding safety in the boy, float on in Jimin's mind longer. The young man was finally satisfied with a conversation he held with Jimin that wasn't ignored at all!
Eventually, Namjoon was right outside the building. So, Jimin had to drag his shoes over to the door and push himself to leave. Jungkook just knew Jimin didn't want to return home and he couldn't help but to feel bad for the model, so he watched him as he left and waved goodbye. After a long day with Jimin, Jungkook now sat in the silence he became used to before but now, he only wished Jimin never had to leave so his heart wouldn't miss him the second he walked through that door.
As soon as Jimin walked out of the building, his eyes met with Namjoon sitting inside of the car in relief at the sight of finally seeing Jimin after a long day of worrying. The miserable man sighed and walked over to the car until he got in and sat down at the passenger's seat. Not saying a word until he closed the door completely.
"Thank you for coming to take me home... I know it's outside of your hours, but I-"
"Jimin, don't even mention it! I'm so glad you were with someone you knew... I was so worried." Namjoon spoke up and looked over at Jimin. "You know I was very anxious when I called and you didn't answer! If you wanted to run away for a day, could you tell me next time?
You know I'm your friend outside of work. You can trust me..."
"I... I didn't want to tell anyone. It's not that it matters anyway," Jimin's voice fell into silence as he listened to the older man let out a frustrated sigh. "Just drive..."
"No, really, Jimin? Not that it matters? You know it does! I was worried sick and thought you ran away or must have gotten hurt out there. We were all worried and even the Director was losing his mind," Namjoon mentioned and turned his body to face Jimin now. Still keeping a calm tone to his voice "Jimin, have you taken your medications today? I checked your room and noticed that you didn't even take the antidepressants with yo-"
"I said I don't need it! I was happy all day today and I don't want to rely on it! It makes me feel like a soulless creature faking smiles to the world! For once, drop this!"
"Jimin, but you need it to get better! I need you to get better and avoiding the treatment will only harm you even more. Listen, I know you hate opening up and you lack trust in everyone, but if this keeps up, the Director will send you to therapy and-"
"DIRECTOR THIS, DIRECTOR THAT, COULD YOU SHUT UP?!" Jimin cried loudly and covered own mouth from the pain he bottled up every time he heard the Director's name. "I'm exhausted and emotionally drained... today was supposed to be a great day for me but seconds after I leave my paradise, I'm bombarded with his name following me and haunting me forever! When could I just breathe? WHEN CAN I JUST FUCKING BREATHE?!"
Namjoon flinched the moment Jimin raised his voice as his own heart ached. He watched Jimin cry and could only lean forward and pull him into a hug. Namjoon, of course, was on the same level as Jungkook; desperate to know so much more about his friend, but stuck doing circles around the little things that took him nowhere. Namjoon wanted to be there for Jimin completely and wanted to be more careful with what caused Jimin to behave this way, but alas, no matter how many years they have been working together, Jimin never allowed anyone in.
That alone was what made Namjoon feel as if he wasn't even a friend to Jimin. There was a significant lack of trust at times and so much that had yet to be uncovered, so he believed Jimin only viewed him as a manager who just cared too much when Jimin himself didn't want him to. As he held Jimin in his arms and listened to his sobs, he didn't dare to ask again and began to piece a few things together.
Certainly, there was something amiss; the way Jimin cried and lashed out to the name of the Director being said around him, only signified something that went on between the two that was far more deeper than just a loving relationship. Namjoon recalled the scared look in Jimin's eyes when he ran out of the office, matching with the way he screamed just seconds ago. Leaving Namjoon to grow anxious about the truth he longed to know in order to help Jimin.

I Want You to Remember Me
A simple romantic tale of a... girl meeting a... boy. Trust and love both take time to grow, but growing together is also a lot of fun. A handful of disclaimers and claims: First, this is fan fiction, set in the “Amaranthine Saga” universe written by Forthright. The story and characters, on the other hand, are wholly my own (fault). I highly encourage you to read the stories from the “Amaranthine Saga” before reading this; the latter half of this story will make a whole lot more sense if you do. Second, this is a relatively short and stand-alone story. The completed story should clock in around 10,000 words, so please do not expect a novel, let alone a series. Third, while this is a romantic story, I’ve never been a fan of the usual romance “misunderstanding” tropes. Think of this as more of a romantic slice-of-life story than an action or traditional romance story. Finally, thank you for reading. :)
