《Whodunnit》Nick II

CHAPTER ELEVEN
He scanned me from toe to head starting with my shoes. I pulled my legs closer consciously as if to tell him it was getting uncomfortable. I wasn’t ashamed of what I was wearing but young man have some dignity
“that’s Christian Dior you’re wearing, totally original” he said in total admiration
I looked down at my shoes and rolled my eyes, I didn’t have time for all that. I had just witnessed a nightmare. I wasn’t really ready to start talking about vanity. I simply nodded and wiped my face some more not wanting him to notice I had been crying.
He bent to touch the shoes which was really awkward. I looked at him strangely wondering what he was up to
“your shoes are wet, you might get a cold, won’t you take it off”
I had stepped into a puddle of water when I was trying to run back to the mall and it had rained a while ago. Reluctantly, I took the shoes off revealing my socks which I wasn’t so proud of. It was a present from my grandma, carefully knitted.
“cool socks” he said as he snickered
Just then I remembered I had purchased some slides which I carelessly brought out of the shopping bag. Making the other things I bought fall out on the floor, in front of everyone, Kyle; so embarrassing. I slid down to pick up the new set of make up I had bought. So much for trying to look different. He picked the makeup remover bottle and gave it to me
“uhh I think you’d look better without makeup” he said scratching the back of his head
I shot him a piercing look making him stutter wanting to take his comment back
“I mean, not like I’ve ever seen you with makeup just saying” he sensed the awkwardness of the atmosphere and looked straight to the ground instead.

“sorry” he said finally as we both stood up straight. Just as we looked at each other with no words seeming to flow a voice came from the main entrance scaring the life out of me
“Amy are you okay” said my dad
I quickly snapped out of whatever was going on and looked at my dad as he walked closer to where I was standing with Kyle. He stood few feet away from both of us and shifted his disgusted gaze from Kyle to me. I was expecting him to ask who the friend was but instead he grabbed Kyle’s shoulder like he had known him before. He shook his shoulder a little, partially destabilizing Kyle before taking my shopping bags and holding my wrist leading me to the car.
I sat down at the passenger’s seat of the white Mercedes staring straight at the ceiling a pool gradually forming in my eyes. My dad looked at me and pulled me towards him. His hug was quite comforting but answered none of my questions and he didn’t even seem the slightest bit surprised or devastated. I sobbed gently into his coat as I wiped my eyes on them. He held my face up straight and used his thumbs to push the last stream rolling down.
“I’m scared dad” I mumbled
“don’t be daddy’s got you and won’t allow anybody to hurt you.” He said carefully clearing the stubborn strand out of my eye
“who are they? Who could possibly want Nick dead?” I said sounding as confused as I felt
“I don’t know baby, not yet”
He patted my head as he turned to start the engine. I lay back on the head rest recalling all that had happened. I closed my eyes tightly trying to free myself of the terror I had seen.

Suddenly the car stopped, I opened my eyes and looked ahead. There was a long line of cars on hold because of something that seemed like a checkpoint. A checkpoint right in front of walmart? Really really weird
“step down from the vehicle” the officer said as he flashed down into the driver’s seat
“dad what’s going on” I said as I looked behind us and back at the officer
“everything’s fine baby just do what the police officer said” he said taking his seat belt off and putting his two hands up simultaneously
Just then I felt a hand grab me from behind and slid a pocket knife over my throat. Before I could wince the second time I had blood stains on my palm angels sweater. I wasn’t able to scream the first time but I seemed to try again and it came out louder than I’d thought. I was breathing so loudly my heart pounding violently against my chest. My dad placed his hand on my thigh as he drove with the other hand.
“relax it was just a nightmare” he said interchanging his glances between me and his wind shield
I looked at my sweater that I had previously seen get stained with blood only this time it was completely clean. Wow I guess it was truly just a nightmare except that I’d probably not try to sleep again no thank you!
Here it is again 🥴
I said I was going to be dropping another one today
Thank God!😫

Big fantasy worlds. Multiple cultures, lots of characters, many different types of magic--this story is expansive rather than closely focused on a narrow storyline. Progression fantasy that takes its time. Our main character will be progressing through magical ranks, but this is going to be a lengthy story.
