《Whodunnit 2》Chapter 32 - The Final Stand-Off

The maze was still something which terrified both women as they entered the structure through separate entrances. It was still heavily on their mind that Brett had been gunned down not even an hour before, it added even more paranoia to the moment for the last two guests.
Eventually, one of the women found the body of the ambushed Brett inside the maze while looking for a clue. His body was crumpled into one of the many dead ends of the puzzling death trap. The witness let out an ear piercing scream, this alerted the other guest who ran to core of the noise to investigate.
Grace found Chantal squatting down next to Brett's dead body. The authors flashlight alerted Chantal to her presence, and the singer immediately raised up from the floor and pointed her pistol directly in Grace's direction.
"Woah! Woah! Chantal, please put the gun down." Grace dropped her flashlight to raise both her hands in surrender.
"You! You killed Brett, and all the others." Chantal had tears brimming in her eyes as she kept the pistol directly located to Grace's forehead.
Grace scoffed. "Me? No way Chantal, I haven't done any of this. I think it's you."
The blonde wiped away an escaped tear and walked closer to the redhead who only had a broken pool cue in her defence.
"Well, it's not me. Where's Cecilia? Is she in the maze too?" Chantal asked.
Grace shrugged. "I haven't seen her in a while, I decided to investigate the parlour and she went upstairs to go investigate Kristina's room. You don't think it could be her, do you?"
The singer lowered her gun slightly. Even though she knew she had accused the single mother of being the killer the last two times, she never really thought she could be correct or that the Cuban could really be the killer. She never got the psychotic vibe from Cecilia, she was always too reserved yet sweet to be a killer. However, she knew she couldn't assume since she could very well be the killer. And Chantal's opinion of Grace's seemingly over-the-top reactions to the deaths could just be wrong.
"Maybe we should go find her first? If we all find one-another and confront each-other, then we can find out who the killer is." Grace suggested, still keeping her hands up as a sign of mercy.

"I don't think that's a good idea." Chantal said bluntly, raising the gun again.
The two women stared at each other in silence for a few moments, trying to figure each other out. After a while of further staring, it both dawned on them that Cecilia had to be dead at this point. There would be no chance the killer would let all three guests happen to meet again in the same crime scene, one had to be out of the way surely.
"The killer is you." Chantal said with confidence, still staring Grace dead on in the eyes.
"Or me. Just the same." Grace said, slowly backing up from the singer.
After a few more seconds, one of the women pursed their lips together in a small smirk. The smirk was something of pure evil, like someone who had been holding in a massive secret over the past days.
"Enough of the riddles, the ruckus, the rhymes, I committed those murders. Ten straight times."
As the thunder and lightning ensued, the innocent guest took a step back in shock. They had done it. They had finally unmasked whodunnit, where eleven others failed.
Surprisingly, Giles and the maids appeared out of seemingly nowhere and put the killer in a pair of golden cuffs. The killer didn't put up any fight, and willingly helped themselves into captivity.
The winning guest went into a hysterical mode of joy and shock. They couldn't believe they were actually staring the killer in the face. The very person who had blown chaos onto twelve innocent guests with a twisted game upon anyone's imagination. The winning guest almost didn't believe this was really the end, they almost imagined the killer to have one last trick up their sleeve, but alas it all seemed to really be over.

Eventually, everyone left the garden maze. However it didn't take long for a commotion to occur not long after leaving the death trap.
"All I want to know is why? Why do this?" The winning guest got in the killers face after the crying finally stopped.
The killer shrugged in the cuffs. "I had a duty to enrol. There's a small group of us who this throughout the word. We play the game, reveal our selves in the end and play out our destined ending."

"What do you mean, destined ending?" The winner responded in confusion.
"I'll get to write my last book in prison. My name will be known throughout the world. Grace Port, the romance author who got the inspiration for her very last book on a secluded island, by killing off her fellow holiday goer's." Grace gave another twisted smile in Chantal's direction. "Then my book will sell worldwide and I'll be truly famous."
"So this was all for fame?" Chantal said in a low tone.
Grace gave a small giggle in response before walking back towards the mansion. Giles and the maids followed behind her, whilst Chantal stood still, soaking up the entirety of the situation.
It was over. She had survived, she could walk away from the island with her life intact.
Chantal sat on the grass one last time. She reminisced about the first day, she sat in the exact exact spot with Brett on the green. After passing Grace & Mary watch 'The Golden Girls' in the main resort building, they found the quiet spot and talked about their lives, before the brutal game officially began.
It wasn't until a few minutes later after thinking about that moment with Brett, that Chantal realised a clue was supplied to who the killer really was before she entered the maze. The clue she found at Aubrey's crime scene just twenty minutes earlier was the name of the show Grace was watching the first time Chantal truly acknowledged the author.
The rain started to pour just after Chantal could let it sink in that the killer was under her nose the whole time. Brett was right most of the game to assume Grace as the killer. Grace used her friendships in her alliance to make her seem as one of the most caring and compassionate guests left. However it was an act all along, and to garner some fame; Grace did the unthinkable.

In the days following finally getting off the island, Chantal was swarmed by the media. She became known as the only survivor in a terrible massacre orchestrated by a cunning woman eager for notoriety. The media also pounced on Giles, as it was now his third time in the position of being a butler to a brutal game of life and death.
Giles was interviewed by police back in the states for hours upon hours, however he was able to prove he only played along once again to protect him and his family's lives. He returned to London once again and waited for his next job assignment, as he knew it was his destiny.
It was an easier interrogation for Chantal. Since Grace had willingly confessed to every murder, and even confessed to killing the few locals on the island before the game started to get them out of the way, the singer was able to walk away without any form of suspicion.
Grace Port was ultimately sentenced to life in prison with no parole. She released her non-fiction depiction of her descent into madness, and the gruesome details of each murder and the dynamics of each game through an anonymous publisher while inside prison. The book, simply titled "Whodunnit?" Sold over three-million copies in America alone and became a best-seller classic under tragic circumstances. She became a household name as one of the most deranged killers ever known.
Chantal Jennings also became a household name. The public took pity to the beautiful woman, and through several tv and radio interviews she described the moment the game started, falling in love with Brett in such a short amount of time, and trying to adjust to normal life after so much tragedy. However, after years of struggle she decided to disconnect herself from 'Whodunnit' as much as possible. She got a name change and eventually settled down a couple years after that with a husband and two children. She decided not to return to her singing career. However, she would always carry the trauma.
Whether it was the visions of Aubrey's body falling off the roof, Paul's body chopped up in the kitchen, Colton's body in the fireplace, Mike frozen in the pool, Jeremy hung in Giles' suite, Mary dying in her bed, Kristina being killed by her brother, Troy exploding in the parlour, Kendra committing suicide in her bathtub, Brett being ambushed in the maze or Cecilia being poisoned to death. The trauma of whodunnit would always follow her. She would never escape.

8 167Anchor Points: Age of Heroes
If you had a chance to reset history, knowing what we know now, would you take it? Six years after kicking an alien expeditionary force off the surface of the Earth back to their staging bases in the asteroid belt, and aided by stolen alien technology, the United Terran Republic Navy has finally achieved enough warship production to put the enemy on the run. Despite the facade of unity projected by the Earth's new federal government, deep cracks still lie under the surface that threaten the stability of world peace and the ability to protect humanity with a unified military response. Within this backdrop, the North American Union, now a mere state in the greater union, has created or reopened multiple off-books projects and black sites to house secrets both old and new that would be far too toxic or dangerous to be known to the wider world at such a delicate stage in world history. One of these secrets will draw Captain Henry O'Toole from his comfortable posting with the Jupiter Fleet straight into a world of conspiracies and secrets that could destroy the new, still fragile world order. Captain O'Toole will take command of mankind's first true starship with a secret mission that would be seen as treason by the new federal government. His orders are to use a prototype faster than light drive to travel through dimensions higher than spacetime and ride the expansion of the universe to create an off-books colony solely for the NAU. There are consequences for escaping time's jealous grasp, which instead position them to have a chance to change the course of human history. Fate has called the Indomitable Will and her crew into the Age of Heroes, will they be able to rise to the challenge?
