《Whodunnit 2》Chapter 30 - The Maze (Part 2)

Once all four guests entered the maze they encountered their first object. A small flashlight was perched on a tiny wooden stool to aid the guests in their time within the maze. Without the help of the flashlight, the four wouldn't have gotten far, as the maze was completely pitch black (thanks to how late it was at that point of the night.)
Cecilia crept slowly within the maze. It made sense to the mother that the killer must be listening out for any heavy footprints nearby, as that would alert them to where a guest would be. She soon found a dead end and decided to crouch there. She curled up in the fetal position and didn't make a noise.
Chantal decided to go as far as she could in the maze. She decided to cover most of her flashlight with her hand, just incase the killer was able to see her movements with the moving flashlight. Once she felt she had traveled far enough, she squatted near a dead end and hoped for the best.
Grace had a more hands on approach. The author thought it would be best if she kept on moving throughout the maze, never stopping for anything. She hoped that with her constant movement the killer would never catch up to her.
Brett had an approach similar to Grace's. He even unknowingly walked past Cecilia's hiding spot, the singer had tunnel vision throughout the maze. He was only thinking about surviving, not keeping a look out.
The killer eventually found the gun. It wasn't too hard to find. With the flashlights reflection bouncing off the glass casing which the pistol was stored in, it was found within minutes. The killer held the pistol tight in their left hand, they were ready to finally get a new kill on their count. When Kendra committed suicide, it left the killer with unbelievable rage. The rush they got seeing someone's life leave their eyes was euphoric to them, it was a rush and the killer wanted their new dose.

After nine minutes, two shots rang and echoed throughout the whole island. One guest screamed at the unexpected sound, which sounded closer to them than expected. Another guest shielded their ears from the velocity of the sound, their ears still rang several minutes later.
Meanwhile, one guest pursed their lips into a small, yet, obnoxious smile. The guest couldn't stop looking at the victim's eyes. The victim's eyes were frozen with terror as they bled out on the floor. Eventually, their vision hazed with their last image being the killer protruding over them before they eventually passed.

After the gun shots, two of the final three were at a loss of what to do. They didn't know for sure if a guest had been killed off, or maybe the shots were a trick to lure them out from wherever they were in maze. However, the loud speaks around the island rejected the latter option.
"A guest has been killed off. You can all now exit the maze and find out who is still alive." Giles spoke in a rather cold tone before the tune of the intercom cut off.
Cecilia exited first. She was visibly shaking as she approached Giles and the maids who were still standing at the spot the four guests were standing earlier.
Grace was the second to exit. Upon seeing Cecilia she immediately ran into her arms and the two embraced in a long hug. They were both extremely thankful that they both survived, however in the back of their minds they both knew at this point that only one of them could survive. They knew one of them would be guaranteed to not get out alive, since they didn't believe either of them could be the killer.
Both the guests, plus Giles and be maids were almost shaking with trepidation as they waited to see who was still alive. Both Grace & Cecilia knew that whoever came out of the maze had to be the killer. In the recent days they had gone back and forth on who they thought was the killer. They were constantly going between Chantal and Brett, and they knew now in a few seconds they were going to get clarity.

The final guest that exited the maze was Chantal. Upon turning the corner and seeing who was dead, the blonde broke down into hysterics and fell to the floor. Brett was the only person she could trust within the game after the majority alliance fell apart. She had become close with him, and was looking forward to somehow finding out a way the two of them could escape together.
Chantal fell to the floor after awhile, her crying had made her knees physically buckle. Chantal & Cecilia rolled their eyes slightly at what they thought was a shabby attempt at acting sad. The two friends also felt pure envy as they could finally put a face to who had killed all the guests. Chantal (in their eyes) was the sinner.
Giles spoke above Chantal's cries. "We are now down to the final three. I'm sure I don't have to remind you that one of you will leave this island with your life, one of you will be killed and one of you is the killer. The ultimate femme fatal. The final game will begin soon, and within a few hours everything will be over."
The final three all took in Giles' words (even while Chantal was on the floor hysterically sobbing) and they all knew it was almost over. But one question still arose. Whodunnit? Cecilia, Grace or Chantal?

A Fate Shaped by Magick
This fiction was (and is) published on fanfiction dot net under the same title; though as I slowly transfer it to here, I am editing and smoothing it. This story takes place in the Elder Scrolls (TES) Universe mostly ending up in Morrowind. This is a slice of life meant to answer the questions of how (in the TES universe) do mages study and learn, and exploring some of the in-game differences between TES 2 and 3. This book has minimal spoilers for the Morrowind main quest and does not fully explore it. If you think that giant insects would make cool pets - if you like the idea of exploring magic NOT intended simply as killing something better, faster or more gore-ridden, then come on in and enjoy.
