《Whodunnit 2》Chapter 20 - Sea Cloud (Re-Wrote)

At 6:55 AM on the dot, Giles opened the spa buildings doors. However, he noticed only six walk through.
Kristina, Brett, Troy, Grace, Cecilia & Chantal all walked through the spa with smiles on their faces. After the past few days of the traumatic game, they were all looking forward to being pampered.
As the six guests all started getting pampered, only one thing was on Giles' mind. Where was Mary & Kendra? The killer made it clear to Giles that severe consequences would happen if any guest was past the 7 AM cut off. The butler assumed one of the women had already been killed off, and that the other was late.
However, the small spa building was sent into anarchy once both Mary & Kendra walked through the double doors of the building at 6:58 AM on the dot.
"Holy shit!" Chantal instantly rose from her seat she was getting a pedicure from and ran towards the two.
"This has never happened," Troy announced to the group, referring to both scared guests showing up alive in the morning.
Cecilia & Grace were both pleased to see their alliance members alive once more, they knew one was soon to probably die, yet they were glad to be able to have their friends with them.
After each guest got their own white robe to wear, Giles read out what special treatment each guest would be getting after their previous treatment. The girls were all getting a hot stone massage via the maids, alongside an individual hot tub relaxation. The guys (Troy & Brett) would just be getting a deep tissue massage.
For an hour, everything was normal. The guests all lounged around the spa and got their treatments. Cecilia was first in the hot tub after her hot stone massage, the single mother heavily enjoyed being able to fully relax. The order after Cecilia was Grace, Chantal, Kristina and then Mary, followed by Kendra.
After the spa treatments were done, all eight guests were instructed by the maids to wait for Giles for further instructions.
Eventually, Giles re-appeared into the spa and had exciting news for the guests.
"It looks like the killer has another pleasant surprise for you all! He or she has decided that we will now have a scuba diving experience like non-other. Please meet me on the boat docks in half an hour. Remember, late attendees will not be appreciated by the killer."

Kendra & Mary were definitely more anxious than the other six guests about the scuba diving adventure. The two women had expected one of them died in the spa (alongside all the other guests) so know they knew that their fate would be decided during the scuba diving expedition.
At all the guests were present at the boat docks.
Giles retrieved eight wetsuits, oxygen masks and oxygen tanks for the guests. Each piece of equipment had a guests name labeled on it.
It was still on the minds of the guests that Paul had died in the very sea they were investigating mere days ago. However, they had to follow the killers' rules.
It turns out the 'scuba diving' was more of a diving expedition. There were no snorkels, (to stay on the surface) All guests were encouraged to go under the surface and explore the stunning coral reefs and crystal blue sea.
Chantal, Brett, Grace & Troy embraced the beauty of the sea. They all intriguingly looked at the coral reefs and made sure to keep their distance, knowing that if they even merely touched the reef it would die and kill its inhabitants inside. They appreciated the beauty of the activity since they knew deep in their minds that the next murder was sure to start soon.
The other four guests (Kendra, Mary, Kristina & Cecilia) were all nervous. Kristina & Cecilia weren't necessarily the biggest fans of water and stayed close to the boat used to take them out to the specific point of the sea. The two scared guests hardly went underwater at all at first and had to be instructed by Giles once more before they both went deep underwater.
-
It was now twenty minutes since the start of the scuba-diving activity. Most guests were now all sticking to the side of the boat with their feet dangling underwater.
The guests all engaged in conversation until they realised something peculiar was happening.
A large white/grey cloud was emerging underwater. Almost like a bath bomb. It seemed to get bigger and bigger in the ocean.
"Guys," Cecilia sighed. "We've been missing someone the whole time. Mary is still underwat-"
Before Cecilia could finish her sentence, Mary arose from the sea in a panicked state.
The eldest guest ripped the oxygen mask off once she reached the surface of the water and erratically waved around her arms. It was clear she was struggling to stay afloat in the water.

"Help her!" Chantal shouted in the direction of the two guys, assuming they'd be best to try and stop Mary from potentially drowning.
Troy & Brett sprung into action and charged towards Mary.
Both men were able to retrieve Mary from the water and place her on the boat.
By this point, all eight guests had huddled onto the boat alongside Giles and the maids. Giles was at a loss for words. This had never happened in the previous two games, he had never seen a guest seemingly survive a murder attempt. Was Mary supposed to be saved?
"Just keep breathing, Mary." Grace was first to console her alliance member, the author made sure to hold onto the eldest guests hand for comfort.
Mary was laying on her back on the boat, staring straight up at the luminous sun of the Caribbean island. Her breathing was heavy and unstable.
"What happened? What was that cloud?" Brett asked the widow.
Mary tried to form words but she could barely pronounce one syllable before letting out an unbearable wheezing sound.
"We need to get Mary back to the resort. Everyone hang on tight." Giles announced to the group, already revving the boat engine as he spoke.
Within three minutes, all guests were back to the resort. The guys helped carry Mary inside as her health seemed to deteriorate.
"What happens now?" Kendra asked Giles, with hope gleaming in her eyes that this meant that she herself was safe.
"I am as confused as you are Miss Clarke. Please give me and my maids some time to come together and arrive at a conclusion." Giles grabbed each maid away from Mary and into the parlor.
This left the eight guests all in the great room. All of them were standing over Mary, trying to analyse what was going on.
"Mary, what do you want to do?" Troy asked, feeling genuinely empathetic for the guest. It was clear to him that Mary had to have been the next victim. It was just a matter of time before she passed.
With a weak finger, Mary pointed in the direction of her room. Which was directly opposite the top of the marble staircase.
Troy scooped up Mary and brought her into her room. The guests all followed behind. It didn't take long for Giles to also appear.
"Guests, it seems that Mrs. Banes health is getting worse. We would like to offer each of you the chance to say goodbye. Each of you will get a five-minute private talk with Mary in this room. You can choose to either talk or just be there for her. Please decide on an order."
"No! This isn't right. You can see what this means can't you? The killer is going to get to have alone time with her. You're practically leaving her to be bait." Cecilia rose her voice at the butler.
Chantal agreed "Yeah, isn't there another option? I doubt she wants to be in a room with just one person at this time. This can't be allowed to happen."
"It is the decision myself and the maids have arrived to," Giles said in a harsh tone. Obliging with what the killer had actually told him to do this morning, in a private letter.
After many minutes of arguing back and forth between Giles, the guests had to agree on an order. They chose the order of Kristina, Brett, Troy, Chantal, Cecilia, Kendra & Grace. The group all agreed Mary would probably want to see the people she had become closest too last in the group.
Alas, by all the guests had spoken to Mary on her deathbed. Each guest who came out of the room noticed how her condition was getting worse after every guests' visit. They all agreed there must have only been little time left for her. It was an extremely emotional ordeal for her alliance members, who didn't find it fair that the guest was being put through such physical torment.
At 11:30, Giles and the maids presented an early lunch. Baked Pyrizhky with Chicken Hearts. All of the guests avoided eating the hearts. Not finding the appetite after what had transpired.
All the guests knew it was only a matter of time before Mary passed. However, they didn't expect the small thud which came from the direction of Mary's room, alongside the cascade of smoke which started quickly filling out of Mary's room. All the guests stayed at the bottom of the staircase as Giles went to Mary's room alone (for safety precautions). When Giles inspected Mary's room and closed the door on the way out, they all knew what was coming.
"Mary has been killed. We are now down to seven."

Rise of the First Necromancer
Asrael Nessarat awakes on a sandy dune with a mouthful of sand and nothing but tattered rags in his posession. As the High Magus of the school of Necromancy, he once aspired to prove to the Emperor that magic still held a place in their society. But that day came, passed and inevitably accelerated his kind's downfall. Now; they are hunted, strung up and burned on pyres throughout the Empire by the Emperor's holy Inquisition- an efficient and ruthless army hell-bent on bleeding every last droplet of magic from the lands. With nothing but a mouthful of sand and tattered rags; Asrael is determined to seek the one thing his cold, still heart desires. Vengeance. This story can, at times, get very dark. It is not recommended for the faint of heart. This is not a story of an overtly powerful wizard who can pulverize his enemies from across the world, nor is it in any way, shape or form a joyous tale. We follow Asrael as he and his companions explore and seek to change an unjust world, where kindness and acceptance are exceptions, rather than the rule. If you are looking for a story to inspire hope or joy, this is not it. If you wish to read about likeable, heroic people, turn around. If you wish to see good battle evil, where the cut in between is clear, then this is not for you.

Cover Art: Undead Master by Changling Assassin. Located at: http://fav.me/dbm60ex Used under license Creative Commons attribution non-commercial 3.0 per bottom right of the linked page. Summary: Just the story of a necromancer and his eventual army. Currently, the only major thing of note is a pretty fleshed out magic system. No set list of spells or specific incantations. Just rules similar to the laws of physics, within those laws you can do whatever is possible. Updates: I work Sunday thru Wednesday and updates tend to revolve around my scheduled days off. Currently, I release content as I feel it's ready for release because that's what I myself would prefer from an author. Warnings: This story is graphic. blood/necromancy magic that requires self-harm to use. explicit descriptions of sexuality. (though fairly tame outside of the marked chapters, at least compared to said chapters) and is generally darker in tone. If you're concerned you might start to read only to be turned off by these elements. See 7. Teetering on the Edge for an example of the graphic nature of violence or 9. Explicit Content for a fairly self-contained example of the most explicit of the sexual content.

Four story anthology
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] [participant in #NaNoWriMo] Preface: This fiction will contain four different stories set up as a challenge for myself and to get better at writing. The challenge for royal road writathon is a 55.555 word goal while the nanowrimo challenge is 50.000 words. Reader suggestions is turned on, feel free to point out errors I missed and I'll fix them up! Chasing sun, napping softly: Cultivation/Xianxia genre. Some parts will poke at the ridiculousness of the Xianxia gerne. We follow the life of a magical fox monster, who doesn't like how the cultivation world works. Said beast seems to have more knowledge than is usual for normal magical beasts. In it's infinite wisdom it decided to search for the main character of the cultivation world to have a cozy and safe place beside him. Our fox will act as a "wise beast" to coast along on the main characters rise to greatness, all for peace, happiness and that amazing napping spot in the sun. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing in first person. Comedic effect between talking vaguely and sounding wise. The cost of heroism: A story more centered around fights and mental health of hired mercenaries/heroes. The world is infected with an eldritch corruption. Humans are trying their best to explore and clear out wilderness and the dungeons hiding in them to establish new cities. Lords seek for hired hands to do the professional work. Thanks to the setting, the story will show how awful pasts are the norm and how pragmatic people became thanks to that. People exchange their sanity for riches, fame and gods acceptance. Interpersonal relationships change drastically and quickly. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing grim scenes/imparting a feeling of how grim the world is. Writing fight scenes. Showing different mental states. Describing their influence on people during fights, walks or even after successful or failed campaigns. Who will be the next powerhouse? : A story about a gaming show, it's host Staan and the different participants. Stereotype characters, stereotype backstories, silly challenges and quizzes. The winner of those challenges gets powerups for their power system. Be it magic, ki, psychic power or anything else imaginable and unimaginable to reach the power of gods. The challenges for myself with this story: A softer tone for storytelling. Making the reader smile and enjoy themselves. A different try at slice of life story. I was left behind on earth as my family conquered another world and enjoys riches, but that's okey because I got a cheat too! : Stereotypical Isekai story parody twisted into an Urban Fantasy story. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing over the top and overdramatic scenarios/scenes Writing in first person. Walking into stereotypical scenarios and making them more dramatic/giving them a twist. Different type of humor.

Knights of the Partition
We like to think there are no monsters. No magic, no gods, nothing waiting in the night but the stars and cold, hard science. It’s a comforting thought. It isn't true. Magic isn't common, mind you. Working forces is difficult in the Age of Man, and gods are limited in the ways they interact with the world. The great monsters of old have mostly been slain, or sealed away. But rare or not, the magic isn't gone. The great Working that protects us from the horrors of the past does not have the power to destroy such things. Instead, it created the Partition, a tapestry of worlds beyond the boundary of our own. There the magic roams, searching for a way to come back. I am a Knight of Avalon. One of the protectors of the Partition. How did I get this job? Poor decisions, mostly.
