《Whodunnit 2》Chapter 18 - Eight Wheelers

Eventually, everyone met back in the great room and separated into their groups.
After talking about the things they found in their areas, the groups had lunch together and waited for Giles to arrive for the highly anticipated riddle.
At 1 PM on the dot, Giles, Sophie & May all wheeled in eight identical wheelchairs into the great room. The mere sight of the wheelchairs sent the guests into confusion.
"Are you being serious?" Chantal said with a snigger.
"Mary isn't that old." Kendra let out a joke. The group all laughed along with the model. It was the first time that the group had been able to laugh collectively since day one before the rules of the twisted game were revealed.
"The killer has left a riddle. I will now read it in its entirety." Giles proceeded to rip open the envelope in his hand. The butler pulled out a small card and projected his voice.
"Use these wheelchairs to travel around, during this riddle your feet must never hit the ground. Follow the clues, until the room is found. It is only then that can you rise from the ground."
"I must now ask you all to sit in your wheelchairs and follow your own calling," Giles instructed the guests to sit down.
The eight guests each looked at each other in confusion, not sure if Giles was being serious. Giles noticed this awkward silence and spoke up.
"I must remind you that the killer has no time for fooling around. Refusal of rules will result in immediate death."
With that, each guest walked to their assigned wheelchair and awkwardly wheeled out of the great room.
-
"Where do you want to go?" Grace asked her group as they wheeled out of the great room.
"I was thinking someplace with a low ground. I doubt the killer wants us to try and go uphill on these things." Mary made a valid point. There was no way a wheelchair could go uphill without assistance.
Grace & Mary were able to wheel around easily, both from prior leg injuries, the two women have had to rely on wheelchairs before. However, the same couldn't be said for Kendra & Cecilia.
Kendra barely had any strength to move the wheels. The models' skinny arms definitely had no power in them.

Cecilia, while trying to adjust to the weight of the machine, managed to somehow lean backward and tumble out of her wheelchair.
"Are you okay?" Mary sounded immediately concerned for the single mother once Cecilia hit the marble floor of the hallway.
"Yeah." Cecilia grabbed a section of her neck in pain. "I.."
Suddenly, Sophie appeared out of nowhere and approached the female alliance of four.
"Miss Korka, I'm sorry. Since you have left your wheelchair, you are out of the riddle. Please sit in the parlour until the end of the riddle."
All the females pulled shocked expressions. They each realised the riddle was really being serious on the 'your feet must never hit the floor' rule. Cecilia felt extremely defeated, but eventually obliged with the rules and sat by herself in the parlour, hoping that one of her alliance members would get the answer they needed.
-
Kristina & Troy tried to get anywhere, but the constant sibling bickering hindered them in trying to find any clues.
-
Twenty minutes after the start of the riddle, an answer was finally found.
On the first day, before Aubrey's body was found, Brett distinctly remembered walking across the green of the island by the main building of the resort with Chantal. Through flirting with the blonde they both stumbled upon a patch of uneven grass, at first Brett thought nothing of it. But he knew it was worth a try. The musicians both wheeled furiously towards the patch of green.
Barely being able to lift the uncovered latch from the ground while still staying on his wheelchair, Brett uncovered some kind of underground lair. All the duo could see was a dark drop, with sort of ramp for the wheelchairs to go down.
Both Brett & Chantal gave each other uneasy looks.
"I don't wanna roll down there," Chantal stated, looking down at the ramp with discomfort.
"But I'm sure this is the answer to the riddle! Please just trust me on this." Brett tried to get as close to his love interest as he could on the wheelchair.
The blonde shook her head in response "I don't know what's down there! It could be a death trap for all we know. Plus, what if this isn't the answer? There's no way we can roll back up a ramp that steep with our wheelchairs. Why do we even have wheelchairs anyway! I really d-

Brett took a small sigh, he knew he needed to find out the answer to this riddle. Wheeling behind Chantal he knew had no other choice. With a little force from momentum, Brett was able to pick up speed and knock Chantal and her wheelchair into the hole. The male musician followed soon behind.
-
Chantal & Brett both ricocheted off their respective wheelchairs once wheeling down the ramp and plunged into supposed darkness.
Eventually, they both lifted themselves off the ground.
"What the fuck is wrong with you! I told you we could be wheeling into a death trap and you push us both in here." To say Chantal was furious at this point was an understatement. For all she knew, she and Brett were trapped.
Brett silenced the singer, he thought he could hear some sort of dripping in the distance.
"Let's go." The twenty-five-year-old took charge in storming towards the core of the noise.
Chantal reluctantly obliged and followed.
The further Brett & Chantal got into the mysterious room, the more they each realised the temperature was quickly increasing.
Neither of them could have anticipated what they walked into next.
The room seemed to extend as they had noticed what they have walked into.
Both the singers walked into a wax room. Several mannequins covered in melting wax hung on the ceiling by only a couple of chains.
"What the fuck." Chantal sounded petrified as she gingerly stepped more into the room.
Brett was at a loss for words as he approached a section of the room which intrigued him the most.
In the centre of the room was a seat. But it wasn't any ordinary seat, the seat was levitated by chains for one so that it was slightly raised above the ground. However, there were also several spikes which were attached to some sort of metal ball case around the outside of the leather seat.
"This looks like a mini torture chamber," Brett explained to Chantal as he delicately touched the spikes around the seat.
But Brett wasn't done there, directly opposite the spike ball seat was some sort of mechanical appliance. It looked like five metal poles which were sticking out of liquid which was bathing in a massive tub.
It didn't take long for Brett to realise what the substance was. Wax.
"This is wax! Jeremy was turned into a wax figure. The temperature of the wax would of melted his skin and made an extra layer like his own skin. Remember how orange he looked when we found the body?" Brett was quickly able to put together his the clues.
"Oh my god, that's terrible!" Chantal shuddered. She couldn't imagine being practically boiled alive while the killer mercilessly stood aside and watched her die.
The estate bell was barely audible to the couple as they stood in a stunned silence.
"We did it!" Chantal could barely hold her excitement once she heard the bell.
Brett gave the blonde a comforting hug before they both exited the room. They both had to turn away from the gutted pigs in the corner of the room before returning back to the darkness.
-
Meanwhile, Cecilia was still on the parlour couches (as instructed to by Sophie) and was extremely anxious. She wasn't sure if her alliance members had solved the riddle.
Despair was quickly ridden across the single mums face once her alliance members wheeled into the parlour with sad expressions across their faces. After Troy & Kristina later rolled into the room with bitter expressions across their faces', it was clear that Brett & Chantal had found the answer.
Almost ten minutes later, Brett & Chantal walked into the parlour with humble smiles on their faces.
"I would like to congratulate Miss Jennings & Mr Wayne for solving the riddle today. You now have five hours before dinner, where we will truly find out how Mr Klein met his end. I would suggest to use this time wisely." Giles followed his routine and left the guests alone in the parlour.
Brett & Chantal practically followed Giles out of the parlour, not wanting to waste time comparing notes.
The six other guests sat on the couches of the parlour in silence. They each knew one of them was going to be be next to die. But who was it going to be?

Unless, of course, the Tyrant King gets to him first …Hey everyone, so as most of you know, I write books for a living, and I just put this title up on Amazon (and enrolled it in KU). Because KU requires exclusivity as part of their terms of service, I have had to pull the majority of the content from this site. I left the full novel up for as long as possible, so I hope everyone got a chance to read it. If you haven't had a chance to read it in its entirety (sorry!) you can pick it up on Amazon. Thanks again for coming on this journey with me, and I so hope you enjoyed it. The book will be out on Tuesday July 24th. Best, James Hunter
