《Whodunnit 2》Chapter 8 - A Tense Buffet

Mary woke up in a hungover haze, slumping over in a chair to Grace, Kendra, Mike & Cecilia leaning towards her.
"Good job Mary! We solved the riddle!" Grace couldn't hold her excitement as she revealed her findings to the eldest guest. Her wide smile was evident on her face.
Mary had a sudden rush of joy as she seemingly jumped out of her hungover spell.
"We're gonna live!" Mary clambered off her chair and jumped around the group. "Tell me everything."
"So, we had to go to the shed near the wooden docks, put on a scuba diving outfit connected to an oxygen tank and follow this rope in the sea to where the capsized boat was from the last known whereabouts. Once we were there, a diagram was sticking out from a coral reef which depicted how Paul died..." Cecilia spoke to Mary first, however the retired woman could barely understand her with the heavy accent.
"Basically, the boat that Paul was in capsized because the killer shot the bottom of the boat. Then, what is weird is that it makes it look like the killer let him drown. A simple death. Then, he must have been dragged into the kitchen and dissected there." Mike finished what was found in the riddle.
Mary made sure to take down the information so she could remember it for the case statement in her room later on.
However, Kendra had her doubts. She wasn't the smartest guest, but she had her doubts that she would just let Paul drown. Was there anything else they missed?
"I'm really doubting Paul just drowned simply." The model spoke her doubts to the group without hesitation.
Grace made a face "I think if we did doubt ourselves we'd just be overthinking it. It's what the killer would want us to think."
Kendra still had her doubts, but still obliged with what Grace said. The older female definitely made sense with her statement.
The group of five knew they had nothing else to worry about for the rest of the day. They therefore relaxed, a day in the sun was a much needed luxury.

The losing team decided to try and piece their thoughts together in Jeremy's suite. They weren't going to accept defeat without a fight.
"Okay, lets just start by going over what we know for sure." Colton, sitting on Jeremy's bed, decided to summarise what the group knew to try and get the best case together possible.
"I'll start with the crime scene. So, there's that note from the killer on the island. He obviously lured Paul outside to that boat, and once Paul gets on the boat he somehow stops?" Jeremy took the viewpoint of the crime scene first.
"Remember guys, there was a pistol in the sea. To me, that says that the killer shot the boat which made it capsize. But how did killer get into the sea? And how did Paul actually die?" Brett knew he didn't have the answers to questions he had just asked. He was stuck for sure.
Chantal brought up a point next "You guys said that Paul had a gunshot wound on the foot right?" The singer pointed to the siblings of their alliance.
Troy nodded "Yeah, do you think when the killer shot the boat, it hit Paul?"

"I think so. We never head a gunshot last night so it must have been when he was on that boat." Kristina replied.
Colton sighed "But then again, how did he die? Surely the gunshot to the foot wouldn't have killed him?" The business student didn't believe a single gunshot could have killed the plumber. It just didn't make sense.
"Maybe, the body bag which was in the crime scene could have been used to suffocate him? Like, he could have passed out from the gunshot wound and then the lack of oxygen in the body bag could have just killed him there?" Chantal suggested the point of suffocation.
Jeremy gave a confident nod "It's a good theory. But I still feel like we're missing something."
Jeremy glanced over at Troy & Kristina for a few seconds. For some reason, the director felt that they weren't being one hundred percent genuine with what they found.
"Are you sure there was nothing else at the morgue?" The eldest member of the alliance asked.
"Yes! God sake, me and Kristina have told you everything." Troy snapped back at his alliance member in a slightly cold tone.
An awkward silence soon ensued. Chantal, Brett & Colton awkwardly sat on the bed while Jeremy, Kristina & Troy glared at each other from across the room.
"Look, there's no reason for you guys to withhold information. That will only put me and the others at a disadvantage." The director gave firm advice as to what he wanted the siblings to do.
Kristina also snapped back "We can make our own decisions Jeremy."
Jeremy retreated "So you two are withholding information."
"No!" The Dreyford siblings exclaimed at the same time.
After more awkward silence, an action was made within the alliance.
"Look, if you guys don't trust us, then maybe we should just go?" Troy questioned the alliance.
Jeremy took a cocky standpoint "Yes you should. This is my room, if you really don't want to be in this alliance, then get out of our faces."
It took no time for the two to storm out of Jeremy's room.
"They had to have been holding information back." Colton sighed.
"They're so gonna go to others and get their information." Chantal expressed what everyone was thinking. It was now almost guaranteed that the four left in the bedroom would be the four at the bottom.
However, unbeknownst to them, Troy & Kristina hadn't actually gone to get information. Instead they spent quality time together. As they knew, it could be their last night together as brother and sister.
-
Just like last night, the group of guests all met at the buffet building, circulated around the buffet for food. And then sat down at the table.
The group ate in silence. After the first real day of the game properly kicking in, they were all mentally and physically drained.
Thankfully, the silence didn't last too long as Giles came strolling into the buffet building. He was holding the usual Heaven Honour Resort cards in his hands.
He tore into the first one and didn't waste any time reading it out loud.
"Dear mortals, it appears that one of you has solved this murder spot on. Congratulations..."

"Cecilia! You are spared."
The group all congratulated Cecilia around the table. Especially the group she had been around for the entirety of the day. They had all grown pretty close over the two days.
"But, as you know Cecilia, you are not the only one spared tonight. Eight more of you will be spared tonight, whereas two of you will be scared. But, before we can get into that, we need to explain how Paul met his end in this game. Giles will know walk you through this choppy murder..."
The guests all adjusted in their seats. The group knew that this was most likely going to be a very grim description of how Paul was murdered.
"After Paul & Kendra were revealed to be the scared guests. I instantly made my choice on who to kill. Paul was my choice. Just after we all retired to our rooms, I wrote a note which was going to be delivered to Paul. The note was made of empty promises. It instructed Paul to if he wanted to survive, he would take one of the small sailboats parked on the wooden docks and take off to never return. I slipped the note under Paul's door. Of course, he fell for it. At the time I instructed him too, Paul came dashing out of his room and headed towards the boat. Eventually, Paul got into the boat and sailed away. He probably thought he had actually gotten away, but little did he know, I was waiting. At a certain distance in the sea, the boat's engine (which was previously rigged by me) stopped. As Paul worried, I got to work. Using the scuba diving equipment from the shore shed, I swam underwater to where Paul was stranded. Once I arrived, I pulled out my pistol and shot at the bottom of the boat. With my good shot I actually shot Paul straight in the foot. This caused him to go into extreme shock. As the boat slowly sunk, so did Paul. If you were paying attention in the morgue then you would have realised that his internal organs were all extremely bloated, an indication that drowning had occurred. And it had, Paul's real cause of death was drowning. He couldn't swim. Of course I knew this and planned it. After Paul drowned, I carried him back to shore and back into the resort kitchen. I then proceeded to dissect him. I was planning to serve him at breakfast, but unfortunately my plans were unraveled. Yours truly, your killer."
"Fuck." Colton cursed out loud. He had guessed that the killer had shot Paul in the water after the boat capsized. He was dead wrong.
"Grace, you are first tonight. Please drink to the bottom of your glass and find out your fate."
Grace wasn't nervous at all. Even though it took her some time to drink her champagne, she knew she was safe. And she was. Grace was
"Jeremy?" Giles called the famous director next.
Jeremy nervously grasped his glass. He was very nervous about his chances. To many people's shock he was
"Mary?"
"Troy?"
Troy was . To many people's surprise. Jeremy even scoffed once he learnt the athletes fate.
"Chantal?"
"Okay." Chantal could barely control her breathing as she reached for her glass. With the singers shaking hand, most of the drink split on the table more than what got in her mouth. When she reached the bottom of the glass, she found out she was
The twenty-three-year-old immediately burst into tears. She was already doubtful of her chances and didn't want to die at such a young age. Brett comforted Chantal as he sat next to her.
"Kristina?"
Kristina's fate was one which was intriguing to many of the guests. They were interested to figure out if the youngest guest was able to somehow piece together the information and be spared, or if she was just off and was scared.
"Thank god." Kristina instantly celebrated once she learnt she was
Her brother, Troy gave her a pat on the back. "Good job" He mouthed.
"Kendra?"
"Mike?"
This left two people left. Brett & Colton. One of them was going to be spared, and the other, scared.
"Colton? You are next, please find out your fate."
Colton took a deep breath and reached for his glass. Just next to him was Chantal, the other scared guest. She found it cruel, but she thought it would be better for Colton to be scared because since then Brett wouldn't be scared. Her and Brett had grown very close recently. She was also close to Colton, but she felt like he was more like a 'third-wheel' around them.
Colton finished his glass. Immediately after learning his fate, he set the glass down and set in silence.
The group waited impatiently for him to reveal his fate.
"Well? What does it say?" Kristina asked.
Colton slumped in his chair and mumbled his fate "Scared."
He was right. Colton was
As tears brimmed in Colton's eyes, Brett took a loud sigh of relief. Brett later drank his glass and revealed he was
"Miss Jennings and Mr Rhodes. You two are the scared guests for this round of the game. As a consequence of not solving Mr Ray's death correctly, one of you will die. Please try and rest well, I will see nearly all of you tomorrow." With a short speech, Giles left the buffet room and left the eleven guests to themselves.
Still upset, Chantal left the buffet building with Brett in hand.
Colton stayed stumped in his chair. Many surrounded him, trying to get his spirits up.
"You can't give up man." Mike sat next to Colton in the seat which was once occupied by Chantal.
Colton started to sulk "Why did I ever come on this stupid holiday? This island is becoming everyone's worst nightmare."
By this time. Grace, Mary, Jeremy & Cecilia were also supporting Colton. Troy, Kristina and Kendra wished him luck but decided to call it a night.
Soon later, after a night of drinking. Grace, Mary, Jeremy, Cecilia & Mike decided to also call it a night. They worried for Colton on his own on the beach side, but they couldn't worry too much. For all they knew he could have been the killer.
-
But only the killer could decide what would happen with Colton & Chantal.
And at 6AM, the killer claimed their next victim.
